Tigress and Nilgiri Tahr
A group of Nilgiri Tahr surprised by a tigress. They don't like the sight and run towards a cliff. The tigress is disappointed, stops and then starts exploring the territory. A way to understand the habits for the next visit... Both species have less than 2000 individuals in the wild. We hope India can keep both these species. It is worth keeping these marvels for the future generations. Nothing can match an encounter with a tiger.

VIDEO OF AMAZING WILD ANIMALS IN MUDUMALAI NATIONAL PARK...
Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary & National Park is situated at the tri-junction of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka on the North Eastern Slopes of the Nilgiris part of Western Ghats descending to the Mysore Plateau. An erstwhile game reserve, Mudumalai was declared a wildlife sanctuary with a 62 sq KM area in the early 1940 by the then Madras Presidency. With Bandipur Tiger Reserve (Karnataka) in the north, and Wynad Wildlife Sanctuary (Kerala) in the west the region forms a single, continuous viable habitat for a varied range of wildlife and is a part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. While Mudumalai’s western half receives the southwest monsoon, the eastern tracts receive the relatively gentler north-east monsoon which results in a diversity of vegetation types and typical migration of herbivores.
LOCATION
Map
The sanctuary has an area of 321 Sq. KM with 108 sq.KM of National Park area.
It lies within 11o 30’ N to 11o 42’ N and 76o 30’ E to 76o 45’ E.
Rainfall ranges from 800 - 2000mm. Temperature varies from 14o C to 33o C.
Altitude ranges from 100’ MSL to 1200’ MSL.
The Mudumalai National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary (Tamil:முதுமலை தேசிய பூங்கா மற்றும் விலங்குகள் சரணாலயம்) also a declared tiger reserve, lies on the northwestern side of the Nilgiri Hills (Blue Mountains), in Nilgiri District, about 150 kilometres (93 mi) north-west of Coimbatore city in Kongu Nadu region of Tamil Nadu. It shares its boundaries with the states of Karnataka and Kerala. The sanctuary is divided into five ranges – Masinagudi, Thepakadu, Mudumalai, Kargudi and Nellakota.
The protected area is home to several endangered and vulnerable species including Indian elephant, Bengal tiger, gaur and Indian leopard. There are at least 266 species of birds in the sanctuary, including critically endangered Indian white-rumped vulture and long-billed vulture.[2]
The Western Ghats Nilgiri Sub-Cluster of 6,000 square kilometres (2,300 sq mi), including all of Mudumalai National Park, is under consideration by the UNESCO World Heritage Committee for selection as a World Heritage Site.
There are 48 tigers in the Nilgiri Reserve across which tigers are free to roam. In April 2007, the Tamil Nadu state government declared Mudumalai to be a tiger reserve, under section 38V of the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972, in an effort to conserve the country's dwindling tiger populations. Subsequently, about 350 families living in the core area have been evicted from the park and given INR 10 Lacs compensation. Those in the 5 km buffer area around the park fear they too will be evicted, however, nobody will be dislodged from the buffer zone. In fact, some people in this zone will be involved in the project as trackers and guides to enhance their income through eco-tourism.

Nilgiri Tahr and Nilgiri Langur in hills of Valparai, Tamil Nadu
Amidst the Anamalai Tiger Reserve, in the hills of Valparai, the endangered species of Nilgiri Tahr (Nilgiritragus hylocrius) or Nilgiri ibex or simply ibex can be found strolling around on the Hairpin bends to Valparai and the surrounding forest.
One can also spot a few Nilgiri langurs (Semnopithecus johnii) in the forest. In order to help the vulnerable species, government volunteers stand with a signboard to slow the cars down and help the langurs cross the road safely.
