It was once the site of a Roman lookout tower and part of the Castle is built on its foundations. It has lovely gardens. The guided tour of the Castle is very interesting and informative. There are attractions for all the family. A cafe with all the facilities you need. An Owl Center with other types of birds including Birds of Prey. Tourists will find lots to watch and do. Two daily displays of the Owls and Birds of Prey are accompanied by very talented Falconers. The Castle is a very popular Wedding Venue. There are many special events throughout the year, including History Week, Halloween Week, Outdoor Theatre, Muncaster Festival. Himalaya Gardens. Gift Shop.The famous Tom Fool worked in the Castle.

Muncaster Castle, Cumbria
A special thanks to Peter and his wife for granting me permission to fly around Muncaster Castle and it's grounds after everyone had gone home. Although I had limited time to make this film, I hope you can appreciate what a fantatic building it is.
The placename Muncaster contains the Latin word castra, meaning encampment, or fort. It is suspected that the site of the castle lies on foundations dating to the Roman era, which, if they exist, may represent a castellum for the nearby Roman fort of Glannoventa at Ravenglass.
The Muncaster estate was granted to Alan de Penitone in 1208. The oldest parts of the castle include the Great Hall and the 14th century pele tower, a type of watch-tower fortification unique to the English-Scottish border region.

Muncaster Castle has seen many conflicts and events but non as brutal as the Viking invasion of 2015 during the History Week, when Herlid Vikings fought to the death. Enactments to keep the visitors enthralled, plenty of time to talk to the individuals to learn about the life style of a true Viking. A tourists attraction of acclaim. Muncaster Castle Bird Display June 2019
It was a beautiful June afternoon, and we went with Aughton and Ormskirk U3A to this lovely old castle and enjoyed the bird display which was a bonus.. The commentary for the display was done expertly and there was music used as well. Managed to get the highlights of the display.

Fireworks and Halloween at Haunted Muncaster Castle 2015
Halloween at Muncaster Castle is a special party occasion for all the family with every form of devil worship to entertain the whole family. Everything from witches meetings to playing with fire. A mad monk educates while the crowds wait for the fireworks display. Children are taught about the devil. Where better to take your children to give them nightmares. Muncaster Castle bring their skeletons out of the cupboards for all to see. Yes that is the long time dead Tom Fool hanging there. The employee who still works for the estate, frightening tourists and visitors on a daily basis. Even the locals from Copeland in Cumbria England are wary of Tom Fool.
Yes, if you are lucky enough to be visiting the UK at Halloween and want to visit the most haunted home in the country to enjoy this festival of horror, you will have plenty of ghosts to choose from. Yes people have been meeting their maker here from before the Romans invaded and set up camp at Muncaster and Ravenglass. So there are no shortages of grumblings to be found.
