Sedona is an Arizona desert town near Flagstaff that’s surrounded by red-rock buttes, steep canyon walls and pine forests. It’s noted for its mild climate and vibrant arts community. Uptown Sedona is dense with New Age shops, spas and art galleries. On the town’s outskirts, numerous trailheads access Red Rock State Park, which offers bird-watching, hiking and picnicking spots.
Nestled amid striking red sandstone formations at the south end of the 16-mile Oak Creek Canyon, Sedona attracts spiritual seekers, artists and healers, as well as day-trippers from Phoenix trying to escape the oppressive heat. Many New Age types believe that this area is the center of vortexes (not 'vortices' here in Sedona) that radiate the earth's power, and you'll find all sorts of alternative medicines and practices on display. More tangibly, the surrounding canyons offer outstanding hiking, biking, swimming and camping.
The town itself bustles with art galleries and expensive gourmet restaurants. In summer the traffic and the crowds can be heavy. Regionally, Oak Creek Canyon begins north of Uptown Sedona; the Village of Oak Creek, however, is south of the city.
Sedona's main attraction is its array of red sandstone formations. The formations appear to glow in brilliant orange and red when illuminated by the rising or setting sun. The red rocks form a popular backdrop for many activities, ranging from spiritual pursuits to the hundreds of hiking and mountain biking trails. Sedona was named after Sedona Arabella Miller Schnebly (1877–1950), the wife of Theodore Carlton Schnebly, the city's first postmaster, who was celebrated for her hospitality and industriousness.
Sedona is located in the Upper Sonoran Desert of northern Arizona. Sedona has mild winters and hot summers. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 19.2 square miles (49.7 km2), of which 0.04 square miles (0.1 km2), or 0.22%, is water. The red rocks of Sedona are formed by a unique layer of rock known as the Schnebly Hill Formation. The Schnebly Hill Formation is a thick layer of red to orange-colored sandstone found only in the Sedona vicinity. The sandstone, a member of the Supai Group, was deposited during the Permian Period.

Sedona, AZ Epic Hikes: Video 1
I adventured on amazing Sedona hikes these past couple years: panoramic landscapes, red rock spires reaching for the Arizona sky, epic storms and friendly hiking pals eager to share the journeys. I've finally compiled some of the 2,000 + pictures and home videos into a single, epic video to play in my stores -- Sedona Green Gallery & Gifts and The Bucking Lizard Shirt Co. What I thought would be a two or three day project became a four-week project. There were far too many choices of favorite images. I ended up making four videos. This is the first and features views and images from Schnebly Hill Road, Soldier's Pass, BJ Rock, Oak Creek Canyon, Cow Pies, Munds Wagon Trail following a monsoon storm, Merry-Go-Round Rock, Wilson Mountain Trail -- showing the aftermath of the Wilson Mt. Fire almost a decade ago -- and many more. I'm not a professional video maker, but I gave it my best effort and enjoyed making the videos almost as much as I enjoyed the hikes. Together, these four videos create the most complete Sedona experience compilation vid I've personally ever seen. (Patting myself on the back now.) I hope you enjoy them, too.

Kelly Pocket Sunday Ride with Simon and Friends
Juanita put together a short little video documentary of our Sunday Ride up in the pines yesterday. Kelly Pocket is located between Sedona and Flagstaff up at the top of Oak Creek Canyon. I hadn't been here in a few years and it was well worth the drive.
Some people do this as a shuttle but I prefer to do it as an out and back.
Keep a look out for alternative lines. In the video you will see the corkscrew cave line that most people won't notice.

Sedona Hike - Steamboat Rockin brings you high above the Sedona's Shadow rocks and right up onto the Fort Apache layer. I decided to get some edge work in and felt this was an easier and shorter route to ripen my legs for the heat of the day. This video brings you to the edge!!

Planning your adventure to Sedona?
Make time for some self-care after your journey.
Being in nature is a necessity for our family. We understand the nurturing that the wilderness provides and being active in the outdoors is integral to our well-being. We are avid outdoor enthusiasts and when we’re not practicing massage, you can usually find us shredding the trails, dropping into a canyon, hanging on a crag, floating the river, or hiking the backcountry.
We have explored most of the trails here in Sedona either by foot or mountain bike and love the numerous opportunities this beautiful area provides.
We also understand from PLENTY of experience the toll such explorations can take on our bodies. As massage therapists, we have a combined 15 years of healing experience to offer our clients and because of our active lifestyle, we also have a genuine grasp of what a body needs both before and after such adventures.
Our practice is based from our home office in West Sedona, central to a large concentration of Sedona trails. Our love of the outdoors is matched by our love for massage, and we would be happy to assist you in your healing journey, whatever form it may take. We offer Swedish, Deep/Connective Tissue, Northern Thai, Cranial Sacral, Lymphatic, Hot Stones, and Reflexology and are able to customize your session to your individual needs. We also do couple’s massage for those who are adventuring together. Whether it be a trip with the love of your life, your sibling, or your best bud, a couple’s massage can allow you more time to explore during your day and the ability to share your relaxation time.
We hope you enjoy the beta from the trail in this video and please feel free to contact us at any time by text, phone, or email to make relaxation part of your stay here in Sedona.
