This past Tuesday, December 3, marked the 60th birthday of the Russian icebreaker fleet. On this day in 1959, the first Soviet nuclear-powered icebreaker Lenin entered service. Today, the grandfather of the nuclear-powered icebreaker fleet is a museum and one of the main attractions of Murmansk, the home port for our entire icebreaker fleet that cannot be found anywhere but Russia.

German From Finland to Murmansk, Operation Silver Fox, WWII 32610h HD
This World War II German newsreel was retrieved from a U.S. Navy archive, and is now part of the Periscope Film collection. Made for propaganda purposes during the war by the German newsreel company Degeto Weltspiegel and sold to the home market in Germany, these newsreels provide a fascinating look at the German military. These German newsreels were seized by the U.S. government following the war, and ended up in the collection of the U.S. government.
Operation Silver Fox was a joint German–Finnish military operation plan during World War II, though it was mainly operated and engaged by Germans. Its main goal was the capture of the key Soviet port at Murmansk through attacks from Finnish and Norwegian territory.
The operation had three stages. Operation Reindeer (Rentier) was the initial attack by German forces from Norway to secure the area around Petsamo. The follow-up operations, Operation Platinum Fox (Platinfuchs) from the north by Army Norway (AOK Norwegen) and Operation Arctic Fox (Polarfuchs) by XXXVI Mountain Corps together with units from the Finnish III Corps, aimed to capture the vital port of Murmansk afterwards. The operation was unsuccessful and Murmansk continued to operate throughout the war.

Murmansk (Russian: Му́рманск; Kildin Sami: Мурман ланнҍ; Northern Sami: Murmánska; Skolt Sami: Muurman) is a port city and the administrative center of Murmansk Oblast, Russia, located in the extreme northwest part of Russia, on the Kola Bay, an inlet of the Barents Sea on the northern shore of the Kola Peninsula, close to the Russia's borders with Norway and Finland.
Despite its extreme northern location above the Arctic Circle, Murmansk tends to be nearly the same as any other Russian city of its size, featuring highway and railway access to the rest of Europe, a railway station, and a trolleybus system, in fact, the northernmost on Earth.

The City of Vyborg (Russia Выборг, Swedish Viborg, Finnish Viipuri, German Wiburg) is located in Leningrad region in 120km Northwest from Saint Petersburg, Russia.
It is situated on the Karelian Isthmus near the head of the Vyborg Bay where the Saimaa Canal enters the Gulf of Finland. The population is about 80,000 residents.
In this video, I had a time to explore a little bit of the historical city center of Vyborg - railway station, Druzhba Hotel, Market Square with Central Market and Round Tower, Square of Old Town Hall, Pretzel Coffee Shop, Castle Island, The Vyborg Castle (Vyborg Museum), Olaf's Tower, Cathedral Square and Transfiguration Cathedral, St. Peter and Paul Cathedral, Prospect of Lenin (Lenin Avenue).

KINKY- KALINKI TRANSRUSSIAN EXPRESS is a 26 min. début documentary film showing the bridges between the buzzing art, music, club scene and the City of London - a daily collaboration yet contradiction.
The arts and their inspirations is a universal language everyone understands whatever cultural, ethnic or religious background, and this unites different working professionals.
Interaction and connections between the City, the arts and music on an everyday basis are showcased through different links and parallels, as a cross-section through society.
London as a cultural mix seen through a foreigner's eyes adds new spicy perspectives to the film. The combination of a certain naivety and supreme confidence makes this film quite human and disarming.
Most of the film heroes are Russian born professionals, living and working in London. Their jobs and strong characters contributed to understanding between the nations as well as supported cultural scene and economy in London.
To give London Russians faces and show them in everyday working environment explained 'The Russian Phenomenon in London'. That example of successful collaboration and integration has only been possible because of a liberal policy of City of London, British Government and visionary mind on Londoners.

Aurora is a 1900 Russian protected cruiser, currently preserved as a museum ship in Saint Petersburg. Aurora was one of three Pallada-class cruisers, built in Saint Petersburg for service in the Pacific. All three ships of this class served during the Russo-Japanese War. Aurora survived the Battle of Tsushima and was interned under US protection in the Philippines, and eventually returned to the Baltic Fleet.

Arctic Convoys veterans from UK visit Archangel (NTV, Russian)
On the day of the 70 anniversary of the first Arctic convoy Dervish which brought supplies from the Western Allies to the USSR in the critical moments of WW2 British veterans who made the worst journey in the world' once again visited their port of destination Arkhangelsk and were greeted by fellow Russian veterans and many other people. Russian NATO Base: Russia using former top secret NATO naval base in the Arctic
Russia is using a former top secret NATO base situated in the heart of the Arctic Circle, reports AFP. The Olavsvern Naval Base is hidden in a mountain near the Norwegian town of Tromso.
The base was sold in 2013 by Norway's then president Jens Stoltenberg - now the NATO Secretary General - to a Norwegian businessperson for just 5 million USD. Russian state energy giants Gazprom are now reportedly renting it as a research facility.
Former Norwegian Vice Admiral Einar Skorgen said the country had sold the only base worthy of the name that they had up there. It's pure madness.

The Soviet battleship that continues to wage war
On the coast of Norway, a Soviet warship doesnt seem to be aware that the Second World War and the Cold War are already over. Indifferent, the Murmansk cruiser stands guard in front of the island of Soroya, with its canons at the ready, as if there were still Nazi troops on the horizon or an American aircraft carrier could appear at any moment.
But the only ones that feel threatened by its presence are the pacific inhabitants of the area, descendents of those who, ironically, had their lives saved in 1945 thanks to the city that gives its name to the ship.

5. Hijacked Cuban Plane
People who really want to come to the US might take drastic measures such as hijacking planes from the Cuban government. In 2014, a stolen twin engine Antonov-24 made it to US soil from Havana to Key west. The immigrants were captured and authorities were trying to figure out what to do with the plane for a while. Not being worth much more than the scrap metal it went on auction a couple years later but it’s quite impressive they were able to make it here without the US taking it as a huge threat.
4. MIG Statues
Is an airplane still considered abandoned if it’s used as a statue? In any case though, the entire airbase where these statues are located is abandoned so it should could. With mounting tensions between the soviet union and china, mongolia was caught right in between the powerful countries. It became a satellite state of the union and a massive construction of a complex military base took place in the 1970’s. The Soviets were really quite good at buiding massive structures in the middle of nowhere and in this case, we see a few jet fighters being used as as construction material.
3 Cosmodrome Kazakhstan
Some photographers were able to capture some truly remarkable photos of this abandoned Soviet space shuttle and the building that building where it finally rests. We all know how the Soviet space program was put up some serious competition against the US and they sent stuff into space well before we ever got there. Massive missiles have been launched here and various space equipment was tested The area where this spaceship is located is quite remote, in the middle of nowhere Kazakhstan. So it’s fairly surprising that people returned to the place since they left it. It’s believed that this spacecraft actually made it to space at some point One of the russian space shuttles we see here is one display at a museum in the city of Kaikonur. Visitors can even go inside the cockpit of the space shuttle where the astronauts would have sat during missions.
2. Ivan Baranovsky’s P-39
This remote abandoned plane was likely to spend eternity in a lake the middle of Russia until it was finally discovered. You might look at it right away and think, hold on a minute, that looks like an American design! What’s it doing with a red soviet star on there. Don’t forget, at one point in time, the US and Russia had similar foes, so the US was alright with trying to help out the Ruskies. The p39 was easy to mass produce, fairly cheap to construct but could also get shot down pretty easily. The soviet pilot, Ivan Baranovsky apparently did not employ his parachute and was discovered inside the cockpit in 2004. Also within the plane were the maintenance logs which leads them to believe that that was the issue.
