Melaleuca Village Lake and Play Space Opening
Located at Lendlease’s Jordan Springs, Melaleuca Village Lake and play space opened June 4.
Arthur Ilias, Lendlease Communities General Manager NSW/ACT, said, “Jordan Springs is set to become one of Western Sydney’s most picturesque suburbs and, with Melaleuca Village Lake, we’ve created a beautiful recreation space that everyone can enjoy.”
Inspired by the adjoining Wianamatta Regional Park, more than 160 trees have been planted around the lake and play space, with many of the species reflecting those of the Cumberland Plain Woodland.
“Jordan Springs is set to become one of Western Sydney’s most picturesque suburbs and, with Melaleuca Village Lake, we’ve created a beautiful recreation space that everyone can enjoy.” Mr Ilias said.
“This 6.5 hectare lake and play space provides a gateway between the communities of Jordan Springs and Jordan Springs East and is connected by kilometres of pedestrian and cycling paths.”
The second lake in Jordan Springs is a sustainable highlight for the area. It has been designed to protect Wianamatta Regional Park; capture water run-off and control flow during storm events; and plants in the lake beds are an integral part of a water treatment system that removes sediment and nutrients from the stormwater run-off.
Representatives from Penrith City Council and Muru Mittigar Aboriginal Cultural & Education Centre attended the opening and acknowledged National Reconciliation Week with a Smoking Ceremony, storytelling, a dance performance, Indigenous food tasting and native animal display.
Celebrating National Reconciliation Week is a key action of Lendlease’s Reconciliation Action Plan with a focus on strengthening and maintaining relationships between Lendlease’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees and other employees and building relationships with local communities.
