The Longines Saint-Imier Collection
Located in Saint-Imier since 1832, Longines has established close links with the village that has seen the foundation and development of the firm. As the only watchmaking company that was set up and still remains in Saint-Imier, Longines has stayed true to its historical values: tradition, elegance and sport. This long relationship has been sealed by a collection of exceptional timepieces all fitted with mechanical movements: The Longines Saint-Imier Collection. The shape of the case -- inspired by a model dating from 1945 -- is a common theme throughout the collection. The sleek lines and the distinctive lugs provide these new models with a subtle balance between classical and contemporary design.

Watchmaking Tourism Saga - Biel and St-Imier Region
We are here in the city of Biel, in German, or Bienne in French, to continue our saga concerning the regions where Swiss watches are made. Biel can’t be described as the sexiest city in the country, but from a watchmaking point of view it plays major role.
Indeed, the headquarters of the Swatch Group, the most powerful industrial conglomerate in the watch world, which also owns 18 watch brands including Breguet, Harry Winston, Omega and Longines, is located here.
Speaking of Omega, its main building including the new METAS laboratory for precision in chronometry and its museum, is located in Biel. This is situated in the center of the city, but the industrial zone hides bigger secrets – in particular the Rolex production unit for movements. The new building inaugurated in 2012, extending the existing facility, is a giant with three sublevels and 92,000 square meters.
Roger Federer might have been inspired by the brand with the crown in its logo as the national training center for young tennis players is just a few hundred meters away from the area.
Hermès’ watch division has been at home in the next village, Brügg, since 1978.
Biel also plays the role of the administrative capital for the Swiss watch industry as the office of its federation is located there. The Federation of the Swiss watch industry is the representative of the brands and suppliers to the Swiss government located in Bern, the Swiss capital, which is only half an hour away. Among its activities, the federation is in particular in charge of fighting against global counterfeiting, defending the interests of its members, and providing statistics about watch exports.
But one great advantage of Biel is that it is a bilingual city where people speak German or French, and often both. Playing the role of a cultural interface between the two main regions of Switzerland is a great advantage; people working for the federation usually understand people from both language regions.
But why does Biel speak two languages? There is an historical explanation. Indeed, in 1842 the economy was not going well and the local council decided to bring watchmakers from the Jura to start new activities in Bienne. To convince them, housing taxes were abolished. Within 15 years, 1700 workers came to the city, doubling the population.

•••• Longines celebrates its 50,000,000th timepiece
There is no question that Longines is a watchmaking brand with a strong tradition. This is something that cannot be improvised and is only the inevitable result of a rich and enduring history. This lasting history has helped elevate the brand to the pinnacle of watchmaking and is now crystallised with the production of the 50,000,000th Longines watch. It will be a unique piece from The Longines Master Collection, the worthy heir to the brand's know-how, amassed through combined research into exacting technology and timeless elegance. The timepiece will add to the Longines Museum's considerable historical collection, housed within the company's walls in Saint-Imier (Switzerland).
Longines’ history has concentrated on the lengthy process of mastering the measurement of time. Over the years and through its different guises, the Saint-Imier brand has constantly striven to complement its quest for precision with exacting aesthetics. These aspects still characterise its production today. Over 185 years of know-how, shaped by tradition, elegance and performance, have elevated the brand to the inner sanctum of great watchmakers. As such heritage deserves to be honored and perpetuated, the brand has continually worked to preserve its legacy. (...)

The Oldest Longines Watch
Longines is particularly proud to have discovered, thanks to one of its faithful collectors, a real treasure of its past, the Longines 183 watch. This serial number indicates that this pocket watch was manufactured in 1867, making it the oldest Longines watch that has been found to date. With a long and rich history, the brand has always made a point of taking care of its heritage and of showcasing it.
