Formerly nicknamed by Jean Cocteau as the twenty-first district of Paris, Megève has become a must visit destination for anyone wishing to enjoy a magical setting during summer or winter.
The village, with its incredible charm, instantly gives us the desire to stroll through its narrow streets. Drinking tea accompanied by a few macaroons on a terrace, shopping or enjoying a short carriage ride are among the favourite activities of tourists who have chosen this resort, above all, for its family setting and authentic side. In this Haute-Savoyard village, wood is of course the choice material. Even more so at the Hotel du Fer à Cheval; it’s foyer sets the tone… A warm 5 star establishment where we will stay for this little getaway. Its proximity to Mont-Blanc and the panorama offered from the Mont d'Arbois make it a popular destination for nature lovers and ski enthusiasts. Many people choose to walk in their ski boots from their luxurious chalet. Chalets that are bought and sold for millions! We will discover one, for sale, not far from the altiport of Côte 2000, with Jean-Baptiste Pierlot, director of the Coldwell Banker Alps Realty agency in Megève.
And of course we will enjoy this sunny day and take you on a short trip in the sky! We will sit alongside our driver Bruno for an overview of Megève and the Vallée Blanche. Then back on firm land, where ladies can marvel at the sight of these sculptural rings, diamond ornaments and other precious stones that jeweller Philippe Guilhem offers in his sublime shop located in the heart of the village.Sublime like these works by Novarino, Cintract, Boucheix or Duhamel. After having welcomed us in his Courchevel Gallery, Stephen Lafeuille will this time open the doors of his Megevan lair. But let's start by unpacking our suitcases at the Hotel Le Fer à Cheval, ideally located at the entrance of the village.Built in 1938 by the blacksmith of the village, the building was transformed into a hotel in the 60s, under the impetus of Fernande and Charles Sibuet. Embellished over generations, it is today one of the cosiest 5-star establishments in the village.
A truly charming village. Under the bright sun, a stroll is a must, but before that, take advantage of being just a few steps away from the Altiport, to take a short plane ride. An activity that continues to be popular with tourists eager to discover, from the sky, the village of Megève, but also the Vallée Blanche, the Vallée de Chamonix or the Aiguille du Midi and the Mont Blanc Massif. A beautiful trip that lasts a good thirty minutes, alongside our pilot Bruno who invited us to take a place aboard his Musketeer D140. Once in the sky, the view is simply breathtaking.
Count on 44 euros per person for an overview of the Megève Valley, 80 euros for the Chamonix Valley, 120 euros for the Vallée Blanche and 160 euros for the grand tour, including the Mont Blanc Massif. Flight time, 10 to 40 minutes! The less courageous can stay behind on the land, and wait for the return of their comrades, seated at the terrace of the Coucou Café. How about seeing the charming little village of Megeve more closely? It all began with Baroness Noémie de Rothschild, after the first world war. Passionate about mountains, she wanted to create a ski station capable of competing with St. Moritz, in Switzerland, where all the European aristocracy of the time liked to meet. The small village of Megève then metamorphosized throughout the seasons, while managing to preserve its soul, heritage, and authenticity. The King of the Belgians, Albert the first, stayed here. All the French aristocracy soon followed suit. Today, Megève counts no less than 32 hotels including 1 palace and eight 5 star establishments, for a total of nearly 40,000 beds. Of the 80 restaurants scattered in the 4 corners of the village, 3 are Michelin starred.

-
Nestling on the summit of a mountain pass, in the heart of a landscape of mountains and valleys, Megève can be discovered through its cobblestone streets, its snow-covered slopes and its atypical pedestrian village centre.
Over time Megève, the birthplace of skiing, has nurtured its mountain lifestyle with the will and passion of those who forged Megève into becoming the jewel of the French Alps.
Exceptional savoir-faire and preserved authenticity were born from this unique environment.
Megève invents itself and comes to life throughout the seasons.
From entertainments to International sport events, from hushed and cosy atmospheres to festive parties, Megève is in keeping with the tradition of village resorts.
It is this authentic cocoon that we invite you to discover.
Let yourself be charmed by our snowy slopes and our mountain lifestyle.
Let Megève surprise you.

In winter at LA GIETTAZ
La Giettaz is a family-friendly winter and summer resort. The
link from Le Plan to the ski areas of Megève and Combloux
(opened in 2004/2005) was an important step in our development,
although the village and the surrounding hamlets
have since retained their authentic mountain charm.
Together with Cordon, this area forms the Portes du Mont-
Blanc, which has over 100km of pistes and is part of the
larger Evasion Mont-Blanc ski area, covering Megève,
St-Gervais, Saint- Nicolas de Veroce and Les Contam
In summer at LA GIETTAZ
A wealth of pleasures
for nature and animals lovers:
Mountain bike lovers will enjoy 60 kms of trails (starting
from the summit of the Portes du Mont-Blanc ski
area, reachable by chairlift) and will be drawn to the
mythical climb up to the Col des Aravis.
Nature and animals lovers will find magnificent
pastures with a great range of
mountain flowers, and will encounter
chamois, marmots, and ibexes as they
go on hikes.
140 kms of trailed footpaths: most of
them are easy enough for children!
Swimming lovers will enjoy the lake
in Annecy (45 kms away) and the artificial
lake of Flumet (6 kms away), with
their fully-equipped beaches.
Visit the «À la rencontre du passé» museum
and the baroque church of this traditional village.
You can also visit a farm up in pasture
where you will be able to see how the “reblochon”
is made and taste all the local produce.

Places to see in ( Chambery - France ) Musée des Beaux Arts
Places to see in ( Chambery - France ) Musée des Beaux Arts
The Musée des beaux-arts de Chambéry (Fine Arts Museum of Chambéry) is an art museum in Chambéry, Savoie, France. The town of Chambéry had a collection of art in one of the rooms of the Hôtel de Ville (Town Hall), open to the public in 1783. This first collection was expanded during the 19th century. Hector Garriod Baron (1803–1883) gave 104 paintings to the town between 1863 and 1878. When he died, 140 works from his collection were bequeathed on condition that they were assembled in a museum. The municipality charged the architect François Pelaz with converting the former granary at the entrance to the town into the new museum. The people of Chambéry had been invited to talk about the annexation of Savoy to France (1860 Treaty of Turin) on the ground floor of this building. The library was inaugurated on 14 July 1889 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the department in the French Revolution.
From this starting point, the municipality continued to collect and safeguard works of art. In 1905 it bought the domain of Charmettes, the childhood home of Jean-Jacques Rousseau. In 1911 the Musée Savoisien was established in the buildings of the bishop's palace, awarded to the city following the law of separation of Church and State. In 1958 some work was undertaken by the conservator Pierre Amiet. The library was relocated in 1992 to make more space for exhibiting the collections, but the building had deteriorated over the years. The municipality decided to renovate the museum, with the work completed by the start of 2012. The cost was mostly covered by the town with some funding from the state. The renovated museum was open in March 2012, and officially opened on 23 November 2012.
The collections are mainly focused on classical Italian painting from the 14th to 18th centuries. They include an outstanding altarpiece of the Trinity by Bartolo di Fredi, a Sienese artist of the fourteenth century. There is also a good presentation of trends in Mannerism, the school of Caravaggio and Baroque. Art from Florence predominates, including the triptych of the Passion by Domenico di Michelino and the famous Portrait of a young man by Paolo Uccello, as well as several works by Santi di Tito and Ghirlandaio. The Venetian, Neapolitan and Bolognese schools are also represented. The museum has one of the richest collections in France of Italian works from schools such as Venice, Florence, Naples and Siena, which may be explained by the history of Savoy, lying between France and Italy. There is also a good collection of classical French works and some mountain landscapes of the 19th century. There is a large open space for temporary exhibitions.
( Chambery - France ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Chambery . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Chambery - France
