The Musée des Confluences is a science centre and anthropology museum which opened on 20 December 2014 in the 2nd arrondissement of Lyon, France.
It is located at the southern tip of the Presqu'île at the confluence of the Rhône and the Saône, adjacent to Autoroute A7, and comprises part of a larger redevelopment project of the Confluence quarter of Lyon. The deconstructivist architectural design, said to resemble a floating crystal cloud of stainless steel and glass, was created by the Austrian firm Coop Himmelb(l)au.
Musee des Confluences includes collections of natural science, anthropology, and Earth Sciences of the Musée d'histoire naturelle - Guimet. These collections will be supplemented by exhibitions of arts and crafts.
The three major exhibitions deal with the questions Where do we come from?, Who are we? and What do we do?. The first question is about the origins and purposes of both the Big Bang theory, history of the universe or the different representation of death in the cultures of world. The second question will present the man at the heart of the biodiversity. It will explain the mechanisms of the evolution, the man's place among the other animal species, and will address the specificity of man linked to the brain or on its own performance. The third question finally addresses the functioning of societies: cooperation, competition, creative processes.
Musee des Confluences stands 44 m (144 ft) high, 150 m (492 ft) long, and 83 m (272 ft) wide. Total area will be 22,000 m² (238,000 sq ft), 6,500 of which will be devoted to exhibitions, three times greater than the museum exhibition space. Nine concurrent exhibitions (3 permanent + 6 temporary), plus four discovery spaces and two auditoriums will be available. Construction cost was budgeted for €153 million, but the controversial final cost is now forecast to approach nearly €300 million

The third exhibition, societies is about human societies and how humans build communities. Novotel Lyon Gerland Musee des Confluences is located in Lyon, on the banks of Rhone River, 50 m from the Halle Tony Garnier concert venue, a 5-minute walk from the Musee des Confluences and a 6-minute tram ride from the shopping centre.
It offers an outdoor pool with terrace and free WiFi. Its 17 meeting rooms were renovated in August 2016.
The air-conditioned guestrooms at the Novotel Lyon Gerland have a modern decor and feature a safe, a minibar and a flat-screen TV with free Canal+ and beIN Sport channels. All rooms have a kettle while the suites also have a Nespresso coffee machine. A courtesy tray and free bottle of water are also included.
The Novotel Cafe provides a daily buffet breakfast in its dining area, or a continental breakfast in guests’ rooms. The hotel restaurant serves a range of French dishes and overlooks the pool and garden, and guests can also enjoy a variety of snacks at the bar.
Halle Tony Garnier Tram Station is a 5-minute walk from the hotel providing direct access to Lyon Part-Dieu train station, and Perrache train and metro station. Old Lyon is 15 minutes' drive from the hotel and the Gerland Stadium is 1.5 km away. The hotel is a 2-minute drive to A7 highway. A secured and covered private parking is available on site, at an extra cost.

Years late, but worth the wait? Musée des Confluences in Lyon opens its doors
It's late, it's over-budget and some feared it would never come to fruition. But, this weekend (December 20) the very modern Musée des Confluences opened in the historic French city of Lyon.
Situated at the 'confluence' of the Saône and Rhône rivers, the museum looks like something out of a sci-fi film.
Its content is equally imaginative. Exhibits ranging from the Earth to life, science and social sciences to technology are all housed under one roof.
