Renault FT-17 - Finland’s first tanks
Finland was part of Imperial Russia until the 1917 Communist Revolution. It gained independence at the end of the First World War. This new country realized that it needed to obtain armored fighting vehicles to protect its borders. France had a lot of Renault FT light tanks that it no longer needed after the end of the Great War. The Finns negotiated to buy 32 tanks from the French.
The first 32 Renault FT tanks were shipped from Le Havre to Helsinki and issued to the Finnish Army on the 26th of August 1919. The tanks cost 67 million Finnish Marks. All 32 tanks were factory-new, manufactured in 1918 – 1919 and had French Renault register numbers in between 66151 – 73400.
In 1920, Finland was given two more Renault FT tanks by the French Government, to bring the Finnish Army tank strength up to 34 vehicles. One was a gun tank and the other was a machine gun only.
The Renault FT equipped Hyökkäysvaunurykmentti (Tank Regiment), was garrisoned in the Santahamina military base in Helsinki. Later it moved to the military fort and barracks in Hameenlinna 100 km north from the capital.
The Finnish Army gave the tank gun version of their Renault FT tanks the designation ‘Koiras’ (male) and the machine gun armed tanks ‘Naaras’ (female)
Renault FT-17 (Automitrailleuse à chenilles Renault FT modèle 1917) oli ranskalaisen Renault'n valmistama vuonna 1917 palveluskäyttöön otettu panssarivaunumalli. Vaunuja rakennettiin yhteensä yli 3 000, eräiden arvioiden mukaan jopa 4 000 kappaletta.
Myös Suomen armeija hankki vaunuja käyttöönsä 1920-luvulla. Suomeen hankituista vaunuista perustettiin Hyökkäysvaunurykmentti. Toiseen maailmansotaan mennessä malli oli jo vanhentunut ja viimeiset suomalaiset FT-17 panssarivaunut päätyivät maahan kaivetuiksi asepesäkkeiksi talvisodassa.
The Finnish Supreme headquarters ordered the foundation of an armoured division on 28 June 1942 and the actual foundation was on 30 June 1942. The division consisted of the newly formed Armoured Brigade and the old (1st) Jaeger Brigade. The Cavalry Brigade was also part of the division until January 1943. The division artillery consisted of the 14th Heavy Artillery Battalion. The division commander was Major General Ruben Lagus. During most of the war, the division was located at Petrozavodsk, but in the spring of 1944 it was moved to the Karelian Isthmus to form the reserve of the headquarters.
The Armoured Division fought in the crucial battles of 1944 and helped to contain the Soviet offensive.
The 75 years anniversary took place on 28.6. with parade, march past, inspection of troops and both modern and war time armored and motorized equipment parading past the audience and honored guests.
Panssaridivisioona 75 vuotta -tapahtuma on osa Hattulan kunnan ja Panssariprikaatin Suomi 100 -juhlallisuuksia Panssariprikaatissa Parolannummella 28.6.2017. Tapahtumassa on mukana myös kokonaisturvallisuuden juhlahanke NUKU RAUHASSA.
Panssariprikaati juhlii perinteisesti vuosipäiväänsä 28.6. Kyseisenä päivänä Äänislinnassa vuonna 1942 perustettiin Panssaridivisioona, jolla oli ratkaiseva rooli kesän 1944 torjuntataistelussa nykyaikaisimpana ja iskukykyisimpänä joukkonamme. Tästä joukosta sai alkunsa nykyinen Panssariprikaati.

360° Hämeen linna - 2019 Finland - Häme castle (4K)
Wikipediasta kaivettua tietoa:
Hämeen linna on yksi Suomen keskiaikaisista valtakunnanlinnoista.

Häme Castle is a medieval castle in Hämeenlinna, Finland. The Castle was most likely built during the late 13th century to serve as military base in the border zone between Sweden and Novgorod. At the end of the Middle ages the castle was governed by some of the most influential Swedish houses, the Tott, the Sture and the Posse. In addition to its status as a military fortress and home for Swedish nobility, the castle has seen use as a prison, and is currently a museum operated by the Finnish Heritage Agency. The castle is one of the main tourist attractions of southern Finland, being the centerpiece of the city and a popular venue for events, including renaissance fairs.

Vblog 20.5/Trip to Hämeenlinna
Trip to Hämeenlinna. I had some misfortune with trains. The first one was delayed due toe signal problems and the second one due to an accident and the train was substituted by a new train. I had bargain tickets which do not have cancel/change rights but I got new tickets/was allowed to use them because delays were not my fault. I also got a coffee ticket which I will use later.
-----
I visited e.g. the Finnish Prison Museum. I did not have time to visit the actual Hämeen linna (the castle, the city is Hämeenlinna but the Hämeen linna is also a castle, it is a museum. Swedish name of Hämeenlinna is Tavastehus. The castle was founded by Swedish Kings for defense purposes and i open for visitors as a museum like the castle of Turku. Hämeenlinna castle belongs to the same chain of medival castles of Finland as Turku castle and Vyborg castle (which is nowadays in Russia).

Vblog 20.5.2014.
