Amsterdam's best art museum, the Rijksmuseum
The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, the Netherlands is a huge world-famous collection presented in 80 galleries, exhibiting 8,000 objects that tell the story of 800 years of Dutch art and history. This collection focuses primarily on Dutch paintings of the 16th and 17th centuries, rather than trying to present a complete sample of the entire world of art. The museum has a lot to show, thanks especially to the extreme genius of great native painters, Frans Hals, Vermeer, van Ruisdael, Jan Steen, and most-famously, Rembrandt.
Don’t miss out on the absolute highlights, like Vermeer’s Milkmaid, Van Gogh’s Self-portrait and a gorgeous collection of Delft Blue pottery ranging from tea sets to vases,
The total archive includes 1 million objects from the years 1200–2000, with more than 2,000 paintings from the Dutch Golden Age. Some 30 galleries are dedicated to the glory of the Golden Age, when the young mercantile republic led the world in trade, science, shipping and the arts.
Many objects from Dutch history tell the story with Paintings, prints, drawings, photographs, silver, porcelain, delftware, furniture, jewelry, costumes and more. There are also dozens of rooms with medieval arts and later decorative pieces of the 19th century, 17th century miniature house models, along with a sampling of minor Italian Renaissance paintings
The building itself is a major work of art, designed in neo-Gothic and Reneissance styles by Pierre Cuypers, who also designed the similar-looking Central Train Station, both completed in the 1880s. The red terra-cotta façade is adorned with many statues, decorative stripes, reliefs and ceramic plaques, using a mix of medieval and 19th century styles.

The last payed photographer in the Netherlands
Photography is all about reflecting on what you see beyond the frame. Martin's Wijdeman's work as a full-time photographer for the Dutch national heritage museum has been worldly published. During the last three decades he composed the image of the museum indirectly attracting millions of visitors to Arnhem through his photographs. We met occasionally on the grounds of the wide open air museum district. I always envied him with just his camera around the neck while I would be scrawling along with heavy gear on my back...Anyhow after 23 years of photography, Martin retired. I visited him in his studio as he was preparing the illustrations for the next year of 2012 museum guide. As he mentioned:
It feels like ruling on your own death, I won't be there to see it published..! In this digital era, Martin's job ends there. In that matter he was probably one of the last Dutch photographers on a pay-roll. Thanks Martin for your kind patience and for submitting on the other side of my SONY PMW-EX1R lens. Enjoy the sailing!

Marcus Reynolds
Originally uploaded August 2009 receiving 13,153 views. Now uploaded in HD. June 2014. Marcus Reynolds at the Glenn Miller Festival deputising for the lead trombonist Jack Rowly with the Bill Baker Big Band from Holland. During the interval a lady called Pat McAndrews laid a trombone case on the table where Anne his promotions manager was selling Bill Bakers programmes and Marcus's CDs. Pat looked at Marcus and said, Millers trombone! Not quite hearing what she said Marcus in bewilderment replied, And what would you like me to do with it? Pat then said Wed like you to play Too Little Time on it. Marcus gulped in surprise and stuttering his words said, But I need time to blow it in a bit and grease the slide. After a little while she persuaded Marvin Negley, who is the president of the Glenn Miller Birthplace Society and protector of this hallowed and treasured trombone, to allow him to play the whole of the second half of the concert on it in order he could get a handle on the way it played.
This trombone was one that Glenn had given to Jimmy Priddy just before Glenn went overseas. Later Jimmy Priddy had donated it to the GMBS Museum.
The stress and responsibillity whilst in posession and performing with this priceless trombone Marcus welcomed back his hand made Rath R10 trombone.
Pete King asked Marcus, are you just saying that because they would not let you keep it, Marcus replied, No chance Rath everytime . But thank's to Marvin Negley for allowing me the honour.
The golden age 3D experience
To bring back the history we invented a technique to reconstruct the cities with digital 3D modeling. In combination with a lot of old maps, it is possible to recreate it, and that gives an impressive image of the cities.
Last year we launched the first project, we put 22 digital stereoscopic paintings on 3D televisions. The result was amazing and there were a lot of questions how this was possible. It was also the first time in a Dutch museum to put virtual paintings on a 3D television, and also that was a great success.
So now we want to put things to the next level, in place of images we want to make 3D video, we want the best experience for the visitors, and we know that going back in the past to places like the 17th century is a thing what a lot of people want, and we have the solution for that.
We are already working on the next project, and that is all about the city of Hoorn. In 1987 a group of people made an impressive scaled model of the city, they worked 7 years on it and its very high detailed. We want to reconstruct a digital model and rebuild three places in an impressive 3D environment based on the scaled model, all in stereoscopic 3D video. This will be the most intense experience people ever had from the 17th century in the modern age.

Markthal Rotterdam, Netherlands
In Rotterdam in the Netherlands there is one especially strange building looking like something out of a futuristic science fiction movie but it's a food market also with many restaurants and bars set in a building like you have never seen before. It's one of the world's most unusual food markets. At the same time it's a condominium with 228 apartments. From the outside the building only looks a little bit unusual with that curved roof and as you walk along the side of it you might notice the apartments with their balconies up above. When you step into the building it really takes off, bringing you on a kaleidoscopic journey that's almost like entering a fantasy land and there's lots of great food from all parts of the world. The innovative shape of the roof is further complemented by the amazing mural depicting a cornucopia of the foods that are on offer in the market along with flowers and butterflies. This unique artwork covers 11,000 m² making it reputedly the largest picture in the world it was created by Arno Coenen and Iris Roskam. Open all day every day until 8 PM and at night it looks even more spectacular. We will be showing you a lot of that evening scene later in the program.
The Markthal in Rotterdam is one of the most outstanding modern buildings you'll ever see. It's an incredible enclosed food court in a big U-shape, with apartments all up above and around, and a tremendous huge food market down here in the middle. They've got restaurants, they've got take-away foods, they've got snack bars, there is a supermarket downstairs, a wine bar, a lot of beer, a lot of people, fresh produce, cheese, everything you can imagine, a hundred different food booths, 20 different restaurants. It's just a great spot in the heart of Rotterdam.
It's got cheese, noodles, pasta, pizza, sushi, frozen yogurt, fish and chips, churros, fresh fruits, French baked goods, Italian, Spanish, Asian, Dutch, Indian, Vietnamese, Turkish, Lebanese, Syrian, Chinese, Greek. There's salads, coffee, cappuccino, donuts and cupcakes, chocolates, licorice, seafood, sausages, spice, frittes, calamari, Portuguese custard tarts, nuts, herbs, dried fruits, waffles, wine shops, bakeries, tapas, hams, olives, tapenade, juices, mushrooms, Croquettes. There is a kitchen utility shop. It is one of the few retail stores here in a place you could easily spend a lot of euro. An Asian grocery store, bubble tea, sandwiches, burgers, crepes, and more.
The attraction of coming to the Markthal is only secondarily about the food, the wonderful food that's here, with the tremendous international variety that we will show you in a moment - but of course you can find lots of restaurants and food shops anywhere in town. The impact of the Markthal is more about the total experience, the setting, the building, the mural, the people, the wonderful combination of fast food, gourmet food and markets all around you framed in some kind of miraculous building. It's an amazing unique combination.
The artist Coenen explained, “You could just look at the wonderful, almost psychedelic picture for it’s beauty, which points out the miracle that food is there for you,” ‘It is a work with a spiritual, religious feel to it. However, its larger-than-life size is not a tale of religion; it’s about nature.
The attraction of coming to the market hall is only secondarily about the food, the wonderful food that's here with the tremendous international variety that we will show you in a moment - but of course you can find lots of restaurants and food shops anywhere in town. The impact of the marked hall is more about the total experience, the setting, the building, the mural, the people, the wonderful combination of fast food gourmet food and markets all around you. It's an amazing unique combination.

Re-railing NC&Stl. Steam Locomotive 576
New short fun version:
Nasvhille Steam Preservation Society in cooperation with Mammoet moved one of Nashville, TN's biggest treasures: locomotive 576. After years of preparation, the day finally arrived for the dedicated NSPS team to move locomotive 576 out of the Centennial Park where it has sat for mroe than 6 decades. 576 now rests on tracks connected to the network that it will one day pull excursion trains. With your continued support, 576 will be moved to the Tennessee Central Railway Museum where she will be carefully restored to serve Nashville as a fantastic tourist attraction by carrying excursion passengers on the Nashville and Eastern railroad from Riverfront Park in downtown Nashville east through Donelson, Mount Juliet, Lebanon, Watertown, Cookeville, and even Monterey up on the Cumberland plateau.
This video shows the re-railing operation following the 10,000ft over road move from Centennial Park to the Nashville and Western railroad. Other than pulling the locomotive a few feet at a time and rolling it onto the trailer, this is the first time 576 has traveled in 65 years, and also her first turn. You can really feel 576 breaking loose as she is very tenderly maneuvered into the siding. You can see the many layers of white paint of the wheels shatter and chip off as she rolls through the switch. At the end of this video, the locomotive was carefully retreated after you hear one of the old rails of the siding began to protest and give. The next day the old rail was further re-enforced and the locomotive was reunited with the tender on the siding.
Grand Traverse Light Museum- Lighthouse Tour
Here's a quick video tour of the Grand Traverse Light Museum located in Northport, MI. The video show some nice views of Lake Michigan and the beautiful sunshine.
This lighthouse is located on the north end of the Leelanau Peninsula. It has guided ships in the Manitou Passage of Lake Michigan for nearly 150 years, making it one of the oldest on the Great Lakes. The lighthouse has many antique items inside which is like going back in time to the 1920s. If you find this video interesting and informative, please give it a Thumbs Up and subscribe. White Shores
The Eternal
You know sometimes you can just feel another world at the same time, maybe it is some higher self or just being more connected, asks Athens, GA-based THAYER SARRANO rhetorically about the inspiration for her new album Wings Alleluia which is set for release on March 29, 2019 via The Guildwater Group. Deeply poetic and musically pastoral, her fourth album is an exploration of textures and melodies reinforcing the title that Americana UK bestowed upon her as “The New Queen of Shoegaze.”
The follow-up to 2015's Shaky, Wings Alleluia displays the layered tapestry she musically weaves that Huffington Post called “a Southern-psych dreamland, bottling up ghosts and bringing them to life through her ethereal hymns. From the moody opening track “O My Soul” that tickles the lower registers while Thayer’s otherworldly vocals soars above, to the guitar-led meditation “These Arms” which traipses over a backwoods-ian twang, to the dramatic “White Shores”, the album exists on an almost transcendental level, a mindset that she subscribes to. Thayer explains, “I’ll be dealing with whatever is happening in front of me or the emotion of a beautiful or terrible situation, and the lyrics that I’ll get for some reason usually tend to come more from the abstract higher place because it provides more clarity.”
A multi-instrumentalist – she is a classically-trained pianist and also plays pedal steel guitar, oboe, and percussion, Thayer has been composing instrumentals since she was a child while also feeding her visual creative outlet through paintings, drawings and sculpture. Uniquely finding lyrical inspirations from her own artwork, it allows her to tap into her emotions and internal dialogue better than writing a linear storyline. “I have always done a lot of paintings and drawings - sometimes little sculptures - that help me translate something,” she explains. “For this album, there were a lot of fragments of drawings that would help me create a lyric, so my sketchbook is filled with drawings that inspired lyrics throughout the album.”
Since 2009, she has released three LPs and toured heavily, headlining tours in the US and Europe, as well as supporting Drive-By Truckers, Television, Robyn Hitchcock, Camper Van Beethoven, Cracker, Nicole Atkins, The Whigs, she has also been a featured guest vocalist at a Big Star’s Third show in Athens amongst other things. Her songs have been featured on network television, in the Netherlands' Groninger Museum, and she won the Flagpole Music Award for Music Video of the Year (2016) for Shaky. Last October, she released a 7 inch with a book of drawings for the stand alone track, “I Will Never Be Used to Your Beauty,” with a cover of Leonard Cohen’s If It Be Your Will as its b-side, featuring producer and artist Andy Lemaster.
Her new LP will be released on March 29, 2019 and features the Athens Cowboy Choir, T. Hardy Morris, Justin Collins, Parker Gispert, Billy Bennett, and more on backing vocals.
