4K 知覧武家屋敷庭園 Chiran Samurai Gardens , Kagoshima Kyushu Japan
Chiran 知覧 is a small town in the middle of the Satsuma Peninsula in Kagoshima Prefecture, Kyushu Japan. There is a preserved samurai district with houses and gardens built about 250 years ago. Most of the gardens were built in the 17th century by gardeners brought from Kyoto for the purpose.
Chiran's Seven Samurai gardens at the southern end of Kyushu keep much of its historical character intact.
The preserved samurai district consists of a 700 meter long street. The street itself is very attractive, with the rock walls and hedges of residences and the forested hillsides in the distance. It is also free of telephone cables and parked cars that would detract from the historic atmosphere.

Japan seeks UN recognition for kamikaze pilot letters once again
일본 ′자살 특공대′마저
Japan is continuing to stir tensions with its neighbors by making efforts to glorify its history of wartime aggression.
This time, a local government in Kagoshima Prefecture is pushing to have letters written by World War Two suicide pilots inscribed on the UNESCO Memory of the World Register.
Sohn Jung-in has more.
This is the Chiran Peace Museum located in the southern city of Minamikyushu in Kagoshima Prefecture, where the Imperial Japanese Army′s special attack units had their staging base at the end of World War II.
The museum is dedicated to its suicide pilots known as ′kamikaze′ who deliberately crashed their planes into allied warships in the Pacific.
In the exhibition hall, photos of the pilots, their farewell letters and other related items are on display.
It describes the pilots as heroes to glorify their actions during the war.
Last year, the museum sparked international controversy when it submitted a proposal seeking recognition of the kamikaze pilots′ last letters to UNESCO′s World Memory list.
Their petition was turned down due to lack of evidence the documents uphold world peace.
The local government is once again pushing ahead with the move to have their collections enlisted on the register, claiming they serve as important war-related evidence that needs to be preserved.
″We decided to apply for the inscription as the collection is a valuable heritage for humankind.″
The move comes as Japan is stepping up its campaign to ensure wartime facilities housing enslaved laborers during World War Two are added to the UNESCO World Heritage list.
This has provoked outrage among Japan′s neighbors who were so terribly affected by the country′s wartime atrocities.

Japan submits kamikaze pilots' suicide notes to UNESCO
Japan is about to stir even more controversy about its militaristic past... this time by submitting an application to register suicide notes and letters written by its wartime suicide bombers on the UNESCO Memory of the World Register.
Local reports say officials in the city of Minamikyushu are pushing to enlist more than 3-hundred-30 messages written by the kamikaze pilots on the UNESCO list in 2015.
The region was a base for kamikaze pilots who carried out suicide attacks against U.S. vessels during World War Two.
Japan had previously tried to enlist Kyushu and Yamaguchi, where Koreans were forced to work in labor camps during Japan's colonial rule of Korea, as UNESCO world heritage sites.
Korean Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se expressed Seoul's opposition to Japan's move on Tuesday saying the suicide notes go against the basic ethics of UNESCO world heritage.
