Bran Castle - Dracula's Castle - Braşov Transylvania - Romania
Bran Castle (German: Törzburg; Hungarian: Törcsvár), situated near Bran and in the immediate vicinity of Braşov, is a national monument and landmark in Romania. The fortress is situated on the border between Transylvania and Wallachia, on DN73. Commonly known as Dracula's Castle (although it is one among several locations linked to the Dracula legend, including Poenari Castle and Hunyad Castle), it is marketed as the home of the titular character in Bram Stoker's Dracula. There is, however, no evidence that Stoker knew anything about this castle, which has only tangential associations with Vlad III, voivode of Wallachia, the putative inspiration for Dracula.
The castle is now a museum open to tourists, displaying art and furniture collected by Queen Marie. Tourists can see the interior individually or by a guided tour. At the bottom of the hill is a small open air museum park exhibiting traditional Romanian peasant structures (cottages, barns, etc.) from across the country.
The Teutonic Order began construction of a wooden fort known as Dietrichstein in the early 13th century. After the fort's destruction in 1242 by Mongols, King Sigismund of Hungary ordered the construction of a stone castle in 1377, while the settlement of Bran began to develop nearby. Positioned high atop a steep cliff, the castle guarded a strategic trade route between Transylvania and Wallachia. In 1498, Bran fell under the jurisdiction of Braşov.
After the Kingdom of Hungary was defeated by the Ottoman Empire, Bran became part of the Principality of Transylvania during the 16th century, and eventually passed to the Habsburg Monarchy of Austria. The commune became part of the Austrian Empire in 1804 and the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1866. It was added to the Kingdom of Romania following World War I.
Bran Castle is one of Romania's most popular visitor sites, made famous in modern times when Queen Marie restored it after receiving it from the residents of Braşov County in the 1920s. The castle is open to tourists, who can view the inside alone or as part of a guided tour. Outside the castle are examples of traditional Romanian farm houses and peasant homes.

There is, however, no evidence that Stoker knew anything about this castle, which has only tangential associations with Vlad III, voivode of Wallachia, the putative inspiration for Dracula. As discovered by the Dutch author Hans Corneel de Roos, the location Bram Stoker actually had in mind for Castle Dracula while writing his novel was an empty mountain top, Mount Izvorul Călimanului, 2,033 metres (6,670 ft) high, located in the Transylvanian Călimani Alps near the former border with Moldavia.
The castle is now a museum open to tourists, displaying art and furniture collected by Queen Marie. Tourists can see the interior individually or by a guided tour.

But I can not tell the legend of Transylvania without the small city Bran in the suburb of Brasov. The background of the classic Dracula of Vampire literature is Transylvania. The Draculae Duke, notorious for killing a prisoner in a long skewer, became the motif of the novel Dracula and today Dracula attracts people as it is the most famous Romanian and best tourist product. Especially, this small castle is called Dracula 's castle because the artist is similar to the one described in the novel. It is more romantic than a dreckah's house, even though it's like the house of Dracula, with its hairy ceiling and its simple combination of white and red. The interior of the narrow staircase is not far from luxury, but it was introduced to Forbes as the second most expensive private house in the world, thanks to the reputation of Dracula's house. Well, let 's meet Dracula. Dracula is also known as the Vlad Thorn Ball. He was famous for his harsh personality as a monarch of Walachia and the habit of killing people with a skewer. This is the specialty of Dracula. It's a punishment to kill a skewer. They lay people on the floor, tie them well, pierce the skewers down, pierce the body, and put them on the ground. Duke Dreclair says that this long skewer has defied the Turkish invasion and led to the lust of German merchants. I want to tell you about Dracula that to our Romanians, he is a hero, not a tyrant. We are still waiting for him to come back. I want to put the politicians into the skewers nowadays. He did not tolerate corruption. During his reign, most of the sinners were punished to die on a skewer. At that time, no one stole gold rugs from market wells. I was afraid to stick it in the skewer. So we want him to come back. We are purely Romanian. And we learned about Dracula's history. I learned Dracula in history, and I really like him. The real Dracula is not pale and has a long hair, and the castle in the novel is inherited by Americans and promoted to Dracula's house. It is a day of mixed reality with incredible reality and imagination that I want to believe.

Bran Castle is a national monument and landmark in Romania. The fortress is situated on the Transylvanian side of the historical border with Wallachia. Bran Castle was first mentioned in documents in 1377 when it was built by the Saxons of Kronstadt at their own expense and labour force. But this beautiful medieval castle is older than that. Initially, it was built as a wooden castle guarding an important mountain pass by the Teutonic Knights in 1212, but it was destroyed by the Mongols in 1242. **** Bran Castle is often erroneously referred to as the home of Dracula.
During the Second World War, the castle was used as a hospital by Princess Ileana, Queen Marie's daughter, but in 1948 it was seized by the communist regime.
In 2006 the castle was awarded to Princess Ileana's son, Dominic von Habsburg, and in 2009 it was transferred to his sisters,
Maria-Magdalena Holzhausen and Elisabeth Sandhofer. In June 2009, the renovated castle was opened together with the Bran
Village in order to preserve and boost the Romanian tourism and to improve the economic situation of the region. The castle is now a museum dedicated to displaying art and furniture collected by Queen Marie.

Bran Castle and medieval torture instruments, Romania
Bran Castle also known as former residence of Count Dracula as the legend says. The medieval torture instruments exhibition was held on the summer of 2014 within the castle.
Bran Castle Dracula’s Castle Tour
Bran Castle Dracula’s Castle Tour makes for a great day out in Transylvania, Romania.
Bran Castle is a real authentic Medieval Castle and is within easy reach of Bucharest, Romania. It's an easy 3-hour drive from Bucharest to Bran Castle through some very scenic Romanian and Transylvanian countryside.
The castle has been named Dracula's Castle from the famous book by Bram Stoker, where he wrote about a character named Count Dracula who lived in a castle perched high up on a rock overlooking a valley. The castle certainly fits the description perfectly.
But our tour guide informed us that the truth is somewhat shady. Was Bran Castle the real castle that Bram Stoker based his Dracula character on? There is considerable debate, and there are actually three possible sites for Dracula's Castle in Romania. Oh well, no need to let that old myth spoil a good day out.
Bran Castle is in fact associated with the famous Vlad the Impaler, who was the original Dracula. Vlad was nicknamed Dracul because of his bloodthirsty habits. This castle was built in the 14th century and has some bonafide links to Vlad the Impaler, as well as other famous Romanian People. For instance, Queen Elizabeth lived here for many years in the 20th century.
If you want to see one of the most beautiful castles in Europe, then do yourself a favor and take a trip from Bucharest to Bran Castle, Dracula's Castle near the town of Brasov in Transylvania.

An Introduction to Bran Castle, Romania
No, Dracula was not here, or at least not visible when we visited. Bran Castle is located not far from Brasov and is associated with the Dracula myth thanks to its imposing towers and turrets. Even though there is no evidence that Vlad The Impaler ever visited Transylvania, it was easy to see why writer Bram Stoker imagined Bran Castle as Dracula's imposing home.
Bran Castle was first documented in 1377 when the Saxons of Brasov were given permission to build this imposing Citadel. From 1920 to 1957, Bran was the royal residence of Queen Marie of Romania and the castle is now a museum. Guide Cristian began our tour through the formidable castle.
