WE ATE TAIWANESE FOOD FEATURED ON THE NETFLIX SHOW “STREET FOOD”!
In this Chiayi Taiwan travel vlog we continued to explore Chiayi city. We had some delicious Hot Pot lunch and then got the chance to travel to the beautiful Museum of Ancient Taiwanese Tiles.
After exploring the historical side of Chiayi we travelled through Chiayi city to the famous Hinoki Village. Here at the first Creative Forest Park we toured around the amazing Japanese style buildings in stunning Chinese traditional dresses!
We then went off the beaten path to find a secret local Taiwanese street food found on the outskirts of Chiayi City. The Taiwan street food was delicious and we continued with Taiwan food as we adventured to Smart Fish!
Smart Fish is a very special restaurant in Chiayi, not only is it extremely popular with locals but was also featured on the Netflix show Street Food. We got the chance to try the very dish they showcased, Fish head soup. It was unbelievably good and a great experience to be where the Netflix show had filmed.
We really hope you enjoy this Chiayi travel vlog and if you would like to see more Taiwan vlog and Taiwan travel then make sure to let us know!

WHO ARE WE?
We are a small publishing company (Vision) based in Taipei. We produce an English magazine (Travel in Taiwan) introducing you to Taiwan as a travel destination. Read it! Lot of useful information. We also have a website with lots of articles about Taiwan. Visit it! We try to make a video or two every week. Let us know what you think about this channel and what you would like to see about Taiwan. All the best to you!
From Travel in Taiwan magazine 2018-7-8:
New Tile House Hakka Cultural District
The New Tile House Hakka Cultural District is neither new, nor a single house, but rather a cluster of single-story buildings made of bricks (some fired, some mud) and tiles. Not much happens here on weekdays, but visit on a weekend and you might see cultural groups presenting music or dance performances.

Old Hsinchu Prefectural Hall
Unlike similar official buildings in Tainan and Taichung, the Old Hsinchu Prefectural Hall continues to play a key role in local government, and is where the city’s mayor has his office.

Hsinchu City Fire Museum
The museum, inside a functioning fire station, contains bilingual displays that cover both the history of the local firefighting service and how best to survive a conflagration.

Shi Family Fish Balls
Located southwest of Hsinchu Railway Station, this restaurant has been praised by hundreds of netizens. It's an old-school eatery: There’s no English sign or menu, and not one dollar has been wasted on fancying up the décor.

Zhulian Temple
This hall of worship is at the Buddhist end of the theological spectrum, but you’ll also see traditional folk practices. One is the casting of pairs of crescent-shaped wood blocks known to Taiwanese-speakers as poe.
Add: No. 100, Zhulian St., Hsinchu City
Qiding Station
There's no staff at this station, nor vending machines from which you can buy tickets. Hsinchu to Qiding is NT$21.
Landscape Platform
It takes just a few minutes to get from the station to the platform. Gazing out over the Taiwan Strait, as the wind turbines that dot this stretch of coast slowly rotated and the occasional express train rumbled past, was a soothing experience.
Zimu Tunnel
When this railway line was double-tracked in the early 1970s, it was moved slightly closer to the sea because the tunnels (there are actually two) were too narrow. Exemplars of the solid infrastructure built during the 1895-1945 Japanese colonial period, they're now preserved as part of a walkway/bike trail. The first tunnel is 67m long, the second nearly double that. No flashlights are needed; there's enough natural light for you to see where you're walking.
Xiangshan Station
The lovingly maintained station building in Xiangshan is an attraction in its own right. Dating from 1928, it’s the only remaining Japanese-era railway stop in Taiwan that was built using cypress from the Alishan area in the central mountains.
Xiangshan Tianhou Temple
The current building dates from the 1920s, but there’s been a shrine on this site since sometime in the late 17th century, when Han Chinese from Fujian (the mainland China province closest to Taiwan) began to settle on the coast here. Like the majority of Taiwan’s folk shrines, this temple houses effigies of several deities, but the principal object of veneration is Mazu, the Goddess of the Sea.

You look far away, it is clear spot komyeo mouth. This lifted the neckline and delicate hair play gave highly reminiscent of the profile of the Egyptian queen. It was a rare appearance. Shut your mouth was not open in front of the natural wonder. Even if this were not comparable qualitative threshold would put all things created by human hands. The waves laid the red circle inscribed on a rock, a piece set to various shapes of rocks. People are countless stones, one ginger to the seats, head cancer, put the name of the stone tiles. The stones are still here and change this look every time. Nature was so phenomenal.

BeiMen & Crystal Church (北門 水晶教堂), Tainan - 3/9/2016
Based on salt drying and fish farming industry, Beimen District, Tainan, is far from the downtown and short of well-known attractions. Therefore, although the district boasts Nankunshen Temple, the most visited temple in Taiwan, and Jingzijiao Tile-paved Salt Fields, a spot with the most fascinating sunset, the visitor center for the district, which stands near the most featured grocer's Money Coming, was rarely frequented. The local government then came up with an idea, building an open-air landscape suitable for pre-wedding photos—just like Shimen Wedding Plaza on the North Coast. What the government did not plan is: the crystal church floating on the water had its photos circulated virally on Facebook. After that, a large throng of visitors pour in, pushing their ways to take photos on the brand-new romantic attraction, whether in the morning or at dusk. According to the rules, the public cannot cross over the fences for a close-up if they do not apply for a wedding. Hence, photography aficionados are thus able to catch the captivating scene without being blocked by visitors. In addition to the transparent church, there is a lot of outdoor installation art in the nearby plaza. The white piano invites couples to pose for a piano duet. The massive square stone carving symbolizes secure love, and the bamboo-woven red heart manifests eternal love. The exterior walls of the visitor center are also painted with various kinds of lovely patterns, and the cameras in visitors’ hands find no spare time. Although we have no idea how long these art pieces can stand in the sea breeze, a large number of visitors will make a special trip to Beimen on weekends in a year or two at least.

Scenes of Danshui (2nd painting), 1935, Oil on Canvas (English)
Scenes of Danshui (2nd painting), 1935, Oil on Canvas, 91 X 72.5cm
Chen, cheng-po's standing in the field of Taiwan art, was highly recognized by the fact that his paintings took part in the Provincial Exhibition of 1935 without having to go through the review process. That was indeed a special honor only given to an artist whose level far exceeded that of the others. The Provincial Exhibition was a local competition then, and just being selected to participate was a great honor. The importance of the Provincial Exhibition to Taiwanese painters was on par with what the Emperor Exhibition meant to Japanese painters.
The view of this painting was not wide in scope, and the lower portion of the painting suggests that perhaps Mr. Chen sketched these houses from a location in a yard of a friend's house. The roofs were typical of the time period and were mostly done in reddish brown. Some were also a bit more pinkish in color, which suggested that the house was older. Mr. Chen combined his sense of caring for the local community, with his artistic conception, thus creating brilliant works of art particularly in the later part of his life. In terms of this composition, he integrated the contours of the ancient houses and the brush-strokes of trees into a series of rhythmic curves; that's a kind of the perspective of rhythmic aesthetics which he was used to presenting in his paintings. The reddish-brown umber roof tiles, the spacious foreground views, along with the perspective line of the wall make the little town appear all the more dated and memorable.
Among Chen, Cheng-Po's numerous landscapes, his Danshui scenes number the second most behind that of his hometown of Chiayi City. In total, there are eleven pieces centered on Danshui. The paintings of Danshui always sold for large sums abroad. Danshui was one of the places in Taiwan that had been more developed in the earlier times. Danshui, with its beautiful terrain and location at the mouth of Danshui River and below Temple Hill, was also one of the most favored places for painting, in part because of the many western-style structures which remained after the rules of Spain, Holland, and England.
