Bath, UK Roman Baths Museum
The most fascinating and important attraction in England's city of Bath are the Roman baths, ancient ruins from 2000 years ago. The center of Bath was built on top of the original Roman baths on the site of a natural hot spring, an ancient geological feature that has been bubbling for millennia. A comprehensive museum has been built on the site incorporating many of the original Roman structures along with thousands of artifacts in a fascinating display that reveals how very civilized they were 2000 years ago. The museum's main feature is the large bathing pool which originally had a roof but now has an outdoor terrace that you can walk all the way around. Be sure to enjoy the different angles looking into the pool across the rooftops of the city and at the tower of the adjacent Bath Abbey.

Bath is a town set in the rolling countryside of southwest England, known for its natural hot springs and 18th-century Georgian architecture. Honey-coloured Bath stone has been used extensively in the town’s architecture, including at Bath Abbey, noted for its fan-vaulting, tower and large stained-glass windows. The museum at the site of the original Roman-era Baths includes The Great Bath, statues and a temple.
Bath is in the valley of the River Avon, 97 miles (156 km) west of London and 11 miles (18 km) south-east of Bristol. The city became a World Heritage Site in 1987. Bath became part of the county of Avon in 1974, and, following Avon's abolition in 1996, has been the principal centre of Bath and North East Somerset.
The city of Bath became a spa with the Latin name Aquæ Sulis (the waters of Sulis) c. AD 60 when the Romans built baths and a temple in the valley of the River Avon, although hot springs were known even before then. Bath Abbey was founded in the 7th century and became a religious centre; the building was rebuilt in the 12th and 16th centuries. In the 17th century, claims were made for the curative properties of water from the springs, and Bath became popular as a spa town in the Georgian era. Georgian architecture, crafted from Bath stone, includes the Royal Crescent, Circus, Pump Room, and Assembly Rooms where Beau Nash presided over the city's social life from 1705 until his death in 1761. Many of the streets and squares were laid out by John Wood, the Elder, and in the 18th century the city became fashionable and the population grew. Jane Austen lived in Bath in the early 19th century. Further building was undertaken in the 19th century and following the Bath Blitz in World War II.
The city has software, publishing and service-oriented industries. Theatres, museums, and other cultural and sporting venues have helped make it a major centre for tourism with more than one million staying visitors and 3.8 million day visitors to the city each year. There are several museums including the Museum of Bath Architecture, Victoria Art Gallery, Museum of East Asian Art, and the Holburne Museum. The city has two universities: the University of Bath and Bath Spa University, with Bath College providing further education. Sporting clubs include Bath Rugby and Bath City F.C. while TeamBath is the umbrella name for all of the University of Bath sports teams.

Know Your Place - Museum of Bath at Work
Last year twelve local Bath communities were asked to look closely at the area in which they lived and suggest an alphabetical list of things they felt were significant about their home patch.
It could be a significant local building, a tradition or personality - or even a natural feature.
All that really mattered - said Stuart Burroughs - Curator of the Museum of Bath at Work - was that it was local to them, it was significant and it began with the letters A to Z.
The amazing results of that challenge have just gone on display at the museum in Julian Road and its obvious that none of those taking part had any trouble finding material.
Stuart said it was a change of emphasis for a museum to let the community decide content. In the past the museum would make that decision and then presented the material.
But diid he also hope this would make people more aware of their history and heritage? Full story on virtualmuseumofbath.com

We set out early in the morning to do our best to beat all the crowds and to give ourselves the best chance to film the quiet streets. I had a list of the main areas I wanted to cover but because we were not working to a strict schedule, I had the freedom to shoot anything else that took my eye during the day.
It was the first day I had taken out the Zacuto Z Finder Pro x2.5 and it is amazing, it makes filming so much easier especially on a sunny day. We also took out the slider for the first time, I am rather glad I didn't have to carry it myself!! I'm only little and it weighs a ton when in the same bag as the tripod, I wouldn't have got very far on my own!! Love the effect from using it, though in a busy city its really only usable when the street are quiet. It was a fun day and I am really happy with the final piece. I hope you like it too :)

Roman Bath UK
Roman baths were a central part of Roman social life, as well as a way for the citizens of Rome to stay healthy. Roman baths were located in almost all Roman cities; most certainly in the largest and most prominent. Far from simply being a place for people to cleanse themselves, Romans baths provided an opportunity for citizens to socialize, exercise, and unwind after a day's or week's work. Today, some of the larger ancient Roman baths can still be viewed at various locations; the largest and most spectacular bath can be found in Bath, England.

Bath - SouthGate's umbrella street is back - Video 1
A thousand umbrellas have been suspended in the air above shoppers as SouthGate and brings back its popular Umbrella Street spectacle for a second year.
Work has been complete to transform St Lawrence Street North and St Lawrence Street South into beautiful, floral-themed covered walkways.
The installation is the biggest yet, with three times as many umbrellas used and the introduction of artificial lawns and decorative trees also lining the streets.
Kirsty Whiting, marketing manager at SouthGate said: “Our umbrella installation in 2016 was one of the city’s most iconic events last year. It gave SouthGate a real buzz and was admired both by local shoppers and tourists visiting Bath.
“This year we’ve gone even bigger and I can’t wait to see the reaction on shoppers’ faces when they see the installation for the first time. Shoppers should have their selfie-sticks at the ready!”
A VisitBath spokesperson said: “SouthGate’s umbrella installation was imaginative, colourful and a real talking point for the city. There was a real buzz from visitors and locals excited to see it for themselves.”
The display at SouthGate, which is co-owned by Aviva and British Land, is inspired by the Ágitagueda urban art and music festival, which takes place in the Portuguese city of Águeda every year.
The success of the 2016 spectacle has seen it nominated for several regional and national awards.
