Антоха. Путешествие из Магадана в Европу / Journey from Magadan to Europe (English subs)

STORYLINE:
Prosecutors in Russia are investigating the legality of the adoption of a two-year-old Russian girl whose US foster mother was charged with her death earlier this month, officials said on Saturday.
The Prosecutor-General's office said that prosecutors in the girl's Siberian home region of Irkutsk would check whether the adoption and follow-up surveillance of the baby girl in her foster home in Manassas, Virginia, complied with Russian law.
Police say 33-year old Peggy Sue Hilt of Wake Forest, North Carolina called emergency services on July 2 from a relative's home in Manassas, and said her child was not breathing.
The child - Nina -was pronounced dead at hospital.
Police say an autopsy determined that Nina died from one or more blows to the abdominal area.
Prince William County police arrested Hilt on Wednesday and charged her with second-degree murder.
About 10-thousand Russian children are adopted each year by foreign families, with about half going to the United States.
Last month, the Russia authorities stripped three US-based adoption agencies of their accreditation, saying they had failed to monitor the children's well-being in their adoptive families.
The revocation came weeks after an Illinois woman was sentenced to 12 years in prison in the death of her six-year-old son, who died weeks after she and her husband adopted the boy from Russia.

HP Catalyst Showcase: Mobile grid platform for STEM subjects
by National Research Irkutsk State Technical University
When students become the teachers themselves, everyone learns. That is what Irkutsk State Technical University in Irkutsk, Russia, and the Chinese University of Geosciences in Beijing expect will happen as they explore a new education platform they call MoPS that utilizes mobile devices and social networking techniques. The essence of the idea is that students themselves will generate problems and ideas, communicate them via their mobile devices where they will then be distributed among their social networks. Peers who receive the communication will be encouraged to provide a solution, which itself will be further discussed within the community. The result is students educating other students.
Students learning STEM subjects must be privy to a wide spectrum of problems in order to acquire the diverse problem-solving skills needed to be competitive in the job market. Often, access to these problems is limited. By allowing students to generate their own problems, they become active participants in their own education.
A novel mobile-based knowledge measurement model allows any member of the community to generate a new problem, and then send it automatically to a randomly selected half of their peers. If this problem is solved by a sufficient number of students, it can be sent beyond the boundaries of the class to more extended communities. Early indications are that the approach is highly motivating, and one reason is that the collaborative environment teaches students to set up learning objectives. The responses that materialize offer tangible and immediate proof that the objectives were fulfilled.

7. SOUNDBITE (Russian) Dmitri Shirembei, head of social movement All-Ukrainian network of people living with HIV
'Today in Ukraine, a leading clinic for treating patients with HIV infection is being closed - the largest clinic of this kind in eastern Europe and central Asia. Someone wants to turn the clinic either into a hotel or some other facility for tourists. Therefore we intend to say that we do not want to get matters of commercial interest been solved at the expense of our lives. If Ukraine wants to show its culture, then let it show this by its treatment of people and not by building monuments and hotels. Ukraine lives through the state of epidemics, and hospitals should not be closed, but built.

If there is no place to get the treatment anonymously, and these people will be forced to cure anonymously on their own or continue to live with unrevealed HIV virus and pass it over to other people. Three and half thousand people is not a arithmetic progression, it is a geometric progression.

According to international experts report, today there are around 400 thousand HIV-positive people in Ukraine. And Ukraine is the country where the rates of AID and HIV spread are the highest in Europe. There, in clinic, thousands of patients get treatment and doctor's consultations. If that clinic is moved out and closed and no other building is produced then all that people will lose the opportunity to get help, and that will have the most tragic after-effects.
20. Wide of exterior offices of ANTIAIDS Foundation
STORYLINE
About 200 HIV-positive people, doctors and AIDS activists on Wednesday protested outside Ukraine's cabinet building against a recent decision to close a clinic that treats patients with the most serious cases of the disease.
The clinic is on the grounds of the renowned Pecherskaya monastery in Kiev.
The cabinet resolution calls for removing all facilities from monastery grounds whose activity is not related to the monastery's religious activities or museums.
The clinic has treated HIV and AIDS since 1987 and has the country's most up-to-date equipment for treating the illness.
It is now providing antiretroviral therapy to more than 11-hundred people and is treating a total of 35-thousand ambulatory patients.
The head of the cabinet's health department on Wednesday promised that nobody would be driven out of the clinic until a new hospital is built, even though the cabinet resolution calls for actions to be taken by 16 July.
Ukraine's growing HIV/AIDS epidemic is considered Europe's most serious and one of the world's fastest growing.

Russian Friends - Ep 10 - #5countries1month (with subtitles)
In this episode, I'm barely off the train for an hour and I'm approached by three strangers who want to make a YouTube video with me. I don't see the city, instead I'm witness to three people who want to know me. This video is me sharing my day in Yekaterinburg with three complete strangers, and making friends in the process.
Corrections
* My mention of Peter the Great being great because it killed people was a joke.
** The Russian Royal didn't die in the church, they died in the basement of the building where the church now stands. I mentioned it incorrectly here, but the video about it will be accurate. I simply forgot where while speaking off the cuff here in this video.

The Trans-Siberian Railway is the longest train journey in the world, starting in Russia and ending in China. The route covers Moscow, Siberia, Mongolia and Beijing.

BEIJING: Seeing the iconic Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City and walking along the Great Wall of China!
THE CAMPAIGN:
Funding will go towards the time it takes to illustrate the pages, as well as the costs of printing and shipping the book and other rewards.
If we go beyond our target, there are loads of exciting extra goodies planned, so the more funds we raise, the more you will receive! This idea has the scope to go beyond just this one book - and if its successful, I’d love to expand the series to other destinations.
If we are unable to reach our goal, unfortunately I cannot afford the time or expense to make this book. So PLEASE help to make this happen!
(Please note the trip has been arranged and funded independently in advance of this campaign. No money raised will be used for the actual journey).
If you are unable to support this project financially, you can still help by spreading the word - any and all support is greatly appreciated!
Follow along on the journey @ninacosford and @illustratedadventures
Thanks so much!

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

SUMMARY
=======
Harbin (Manchu: Harbin; Chinese: 哈尔滨 Hā'ěrbīn) is the capital of Heilongjiang province, and largest city in the northeastern region of the People's Republic of China. Holding sub-provincial administrative status, Harbin has direct jurisdiction over nine metropolitan districts, two county-level cities and seven counties. Harbin is the eighth most populous Chinese city according to the 2010 census, the built-up area (which consists of all districts except Shuangcheng and Acheng) had 5,282,093 inhabitants, while the total population of the sub-provincial city was up to 10,635,971. Harbin serves as a key political, economic, scientific, cultural, and communications hub in Northeast China, as well as an important industrial base of the nation.Harbin, whose name was originally a Manchu word meaning a place for drying fishing nets, grew from a small rural settlement on the Songhua River to become one of the largest cities in Northeast China. Founded in 1898 with the coming of the Chinese Eastern Railway, the city first prospered as a region inhabited by an overwhelming majority of the immigrants from the Russian Empire.Having the most bitterly cold winters among major Chinese cities, Harbin is heralded as the Ice City for its well-known winter tourism and recreations. Harbin is notable for its beautiful ice sculpture festival in the winter. Besides being well known for its historical Russian legacy, the city serves as an important gateway in Sino-Russian trade today, containing a sizable population of Russian diaspora. In the 1920s, the city was considered China's fashion capital since new designs from Paris and Moscow reached here first before arriving in Shanghai. The city was voted China Top Tourist City by the China National Tourism Administration in 2004. On 22 June 2010, Harbin was appointed a City of Music by the UN.
