Prince of Monaco continues his visit to Georgia
19.09.11
The Prince of Monaco Albert II continues his official visit to Georgia. The prince arrived in the mountainous resort Bakuriani this morning. The decision to visit Bakuriani and view the grave of the late Georgian luger Nodar Kumaritashvili, was included in the agenda of the visit under the decision of the prince himself. Former bobsledder and five-time participant of winter Olympic Games laid wreaths on the grave of the late sportsman, who suffered a fatal crash during a training run for the 2010 Winter Olympics competition at the Whistler Sliding Centre in Vancouver, Canada on February 12, the opening day of the 2010 Games. The Prince will meet with the family of the late sportsman.
Prince Albert II also met with the family members of the late luger and warded them with the Lui II gold medal, which is usually given to people for particular contribution to the development of the spheres of education and sport. Prince wrote his words in the memory book of the late luger.
From Bakuriani, Prince Albert II arrived in Kakheti Region and joined the vintage together with the president of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili.
Albert II arrived in Batumi, Georgia, yesterday and left for Svaneti Region to get acquainted with Georgian culture and sightseeing. During the three-day high-rank visit, Albert II also intends to see the archaeological excavations and the filed museum in Dmanisi town, approximately 93 km southwest of capital Tbilisi.
Furthermore, the prince, who is five-time participant of the Olympic games and president of the Olympic Committee of Monaco is expected to visit the town of Bakuriani and commemorate Nodar Kumaritashvili, the Georgian luger who suffered a fatal crash during a training run for the 2010 Winter Olympics competition at the Whistler Sliding Centre in Vancouver, Canada on February 12, the opening day of the 2010 Games.
Yesterday, the Prince attended a new musical - a remake performance of the last century popular Georgian movie Keto and Kote at the Batumi opera house, which was opened with the same musical a month ago. The audience greeted the guest and president Saakashvili, who accompanied him, with ovations and applauds. Foreign tourists and the foreign teachers of English language working in Georgia`s public schools under the governmental program of education Teach and Learn with Georgia were also among the spectators of the new musical.

Alarming results of Bedia Monastery restoration aired
Alarming results of Bedia Monastery restoration aired
Alarming results of the restorations works carried out by Russian specialists in Bedia Monastery situated in Georgia`s occupied region of Abkhazia have been aired. Echo of Kavkaz news agency has released a footage depicting the erased unique Georgian frescos, including the one of the first king of the united Georgia Bagrat III.
This is the first time in the last 20 years, the Georgian side has responded to the accusations by the Georgian side. They let TV-journalists into the territory of the medieval Georgian Orthodox cathedral and allowed them to shoot the wall, on which the Fresco of Bagrat III was depicted.
The Georgian side recently said the fresco has been completely erased and the whole monument is facing danger due to the incorrect restoration carried out by Russian and the Abkhaz side.
Representatives of the de facto government of Abkhazia in the footage blame the Georgian side saying that teh unique fresco was erased in bombing in 1992 during the war that was waged chiefly between Georgian government forces on one side and Abkhaz separatist forces supporting independence of Abkhazia from Georgia, Russian armed forces and North Caucasian hired fighters on the other side in 1992-1993.
The Georgian side has raised this issue for mere political purposes. They want to clutch at anything and use the monuments for this. It is unknown when the fresco of Bagrat II disappeared, although they call this king Bagrat III, they have their own calculations. The king`s part of the fresco was maintained here during the Soviet Union and it was being destroyed eventually, although it completely disappeared during the war [1992-1993], they Georgian artillery was directly bombing the cathedral, Anzor Aguba, the head of the so-called department for protecting the historical and cultural heritage of Abkhazia said.
The released footage says nothing about the resolution made by the International Council of Museums (ICOM), saying that the fresco was likely erased in 2003 in result of the restoration works carried out in the cathedral.
This can be compared with behavior of Taliban, which blew up monuments of Buddha. It`s quite clear that the fresco of Bagrat III, the first king of the united Georgia is being damaged absolutely purposefully just like the Georgian inscriptions, monuments and any kind of trail of Georgia is being destroyed on the occupied territory during years, Giorgi Gabashvili, the head of the parliamentary committee for education, science and culture said.
The Georgian side continues urging for letting Georgian and foreign experts into the occupied territory for purpose of evaluation of the situation on the ground and further restoration.

SUMMARY
=======
Tbilisi (English: tə-bih-LEE-see, tə-BIL-ih-see; Georgian: თბილისი [tʰbilisi] (listen)), in some countries also still known by its pre-1936 international designation Tiflis ( TIF-lis), is the capital and the largest city of Georgia, lying on the banks of the Kura River with a population of approximately 1.5 million people. Founded in the 5th century AD by Vakhtang I of Iberia, since then Tbilisi served as the capital of various Georgian kingdoms and republics. Between 1801 and 1917, then part of the Russian Empire, Tbilisi was the seat of the Imperial Viceroy, governing both Southern and Northern Caucasus.
Because of its location on the crossroads between Europe and Asia, and its proximity to the lucrative Silk Road, throughout history Tbilisi was a point of contention among various global powers. The city's location to this day ensures its position as an important transit route for various energy and trade projects. Tbilisi's diverse history is reflected in its architecture, which is a mix of medieval, neoclassical, Beaux Arts, Art Nouveau, Stalinist and the Modern structures.
Historically, Tbilisi has been home to people of multiple cultural, ethnic, and religious backgrounds, though it is currently overwhelmingly Eastern Orthodox Christian. Its notable tourist destinations include cathedrals Sameba and Sioni, Freedom Square, Rustaveli Avenue and Agmashenebeli Avenue, medieval Narikala Fortress, the pseudo-Moorish Opera Theater, and the Georgian National Museum.
Georgien - Unendliche Landschaften | WDR Reisen
A journey across Georgia, the small country with the diverse landscape between Europe and Asia on the old Silk Road: starting in the west, in the so called Small Caucasus through the green mountain world with the last narrow-gauge railway in the country. In the south of the country, the journey continues into the unique cave monastery Wardzia, past the big lakes towards Tbilisi. In the east, the harvest of the famous Georgian wines is in full swing. From there it goes to the north: to the high mountains of the great Caucasus, into wild valleys to the most famous mountain of Georgia, the Kasbek.

First session of Cabinet held in Kutaisi House of Government
First session of Cabinet held in Kutaisi House of Government
22.11.11
President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili chaired the first session of the government held in the House of Government in Kutaisi today. Saakashvili spoke about Georgia-EU relations adding the negotiations on intensive and free trade between the EU and Georgia would begin in December, after Prime Minister Gilauri signed a document on the beginning of the negotiations in Brussels.
Saakashvili emphasized the significance of the free trade relations with Europe.
`This is a decisive and vital act for Georgia,` Saakashvili said adding Georgia would succeed to export its product on European market in about two years,
He also said the negotiations on visa free relations with the EU would begin in March or April.
`Visa free regime means that any citizen of Georgia will be able to travel to Europe freely. This is a near future. So, the fag of Europe that was waving above the government house is not a model one, but it is a realty, in which we are going to move. For some of our politicians who are accustomed to slavery, our future is only in Moscow, the Moscow which yesterday admitted that they launched war against Georgia in order to halt NATO enlargement within our and to Russian borders,` Saakashvili said.
