Where
In the heart of central Stockholm on Skeppsholmen (opposite the Royal Palace), in the caverns beneath the Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities. This is the first time that the secret caverns will be made accessible to the general public. Up until the 1960s, they formed part of the Swedish Navy's headquarters.
The exhibition
For the first time outside of China the artefacts will be displayed under ground, in the Secret Rock Galleries below the Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities in central Stockholm. The setting is similar to the environment in which the artefacts once were found.
- As a visitor one will get that sense of the first magical moment encountering the army face to face in the excavation situation, says museum director Mrs Sanne Houby-Nielsen.
The setting is ideal, utilising the subterranean Secret Rock Galleries, the former naval base of the Swedish Navy. It's situated on the island of Skeppsholmen, opposite of the Royal Palace. The Rock Galleries are usually not open to the public.
- We are positive towards using the rock galleries for the public, it is in accordance with our administration plans for the island of Skeppsholmen. We want to create a more open and creative meeting point, for Stockholmers as well as tourists, says Ulf Tomner, at the Swedish National Property Board (Statens fastighetsverk).
The unique exhibition is possible due to cooperation with the Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities, Stockholm Visitors Board and the Swedish National Property Board (Statens fastighetsverk).

ON AUGUST 28 2010 CHINAS TERRACOTTA
ARMY ARRIVES AT THE CAVERNS BELOW
ÖSTASIATISKA MUSEET, STOCKHOLM.
It took 700,000 men and almost 40 years to complete. The terracotta army will arrive in Sweden at the end of August and bring us the story of Chinas birth. Back to where it all began deep under the ground you can soon see
soldiers and a large collection of never-before-exhibited objects from a total
of five imperial tombs in the cavern under the Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities. Chinas terracotta army is a unique show, in an equally unique setting, of how China was once created and how this vast empire was built upon the idea of eternal power in time and space. The idea was portrayed through monumental burial complexes that united China and created a sophisticated empire that lasted for more than two thousand years the Middle Kingdom. The exhibition focuses on the period 221 BC 220 AD and includes 320 artefacts from eleven different museums and more than ten different excavation sites.
