Time to Remember 2016: An event to commemorate the first two minute silence, May 1916
Back in May, Farnham remembered the world's first two minutes' silence which took place on Castle Street in May 1916 with the Time to Remember project. Farnham Maltings helped to organise a special event which featured a military procession and a moving commemoration on the exact spot of the original event before hosting a May Day community fair in Gostrey Meadow.
To celebrate the conclusion of the project we will be holding a free event in the Museum of Farnham's Garden Gallery to showcase some of these stories and recordings as well as to present the full length film created as part of the project inspired by Farnham's Remembrance story.
The event takes place on Sat 12 November 2016, at the Museum of Farnham between 10am - 4pm with the screening at 2.30pm. More details:

Places to see in ( Leatherhead - UK )
Places to see in ( Leatherhead - UK )
Leatherhead is a town in Surrey, England on the right bank of the River Mole, and at the edge of the contiguous built-up area of London. Its local district is Mole Valley. Records exist of the place from Anglo Saxon England. It has a combined theatre and cinema, which is at the centre of the re-modelling following late 20th century pedestrianisation. The bypass streets to the town centre close and feature annually in the London-Surrey cycle classic which is ranked by the world's cycling federation.
Just north-east of the midpoint of Surrey[n 1] and at a junction of ancient north–south and east–west roads, elements of the town have been a focus for transport throughout its history. A main early spur to this was the construction of the bridge over the seasonally navigable River Mole in the early medieval period. Later the Swan Hotel provided 300 years of service to horse-drawn coaches. In the late 20th century the M25 motorway was built nearby.
In 1986, the town was joined to the UK motorway system, when the M25 motorway was built to the north. Leatherhead became Junction 9, which has odd non-aligned entry/exit points on the two sides. The town is perhaps most frequently mentioned in the national media as the location of motorway traffic jams and accidents.
The symbol of Leatherhead is a swan holding a sword in its beak. This can be seen on the old Leatherhead coat of arms, and on the Mole Valley coat of arms. The insignia of Leatherhead Football Club includes a swan, as do the logos of the Swan Shopping Centre, Therfield School and the leisure centre.
North Leatherhead or Leatherhead Common is the area north of the Kingston Road Bridge, bordered to the north by Leatherhead Golf Course, Ashtead Common and the M25 motorway and to the south by the railway which forks by the town centre. It includes the town's main secondary school, Therfield School, and part of the Trinity School, as well as the bulk of the town's social housing.
Leatherhead formerly had a number of light manufacturing businesses, such as the Ronson's lighter factory, but in and around the 1980s many closed or moved on. Recent years have seen the emergence of several industrial parks, and the town has attracted many service and headquarters operations, including well known companies.
Leatherhead is served by Leatherhead railway station. Over the years, however, Leatherhead has had four railway stations, two of which were only temporary and survived for about eight years from the railway's first opening in 1859.
( Leatherhead - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Leatherhead . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Leatherhead - UK

Farnham Estate Co Cavan Old Frontage and House 1802?
We are back down at the wonderful Farnham Estate Radisson Blu Golf and Spa Hotel in Co Cavan for a few days pampering.
In this video I am taking in the old house frontage downstairs rooms and staircase. There was a large house on this site from the 16th Century. The old house building that we see now is certainly very very old. How much of it actually dates right back to those far off days is anyone's guess, probably very little.
'In 1802 Francis Johnston, architect for Dublin’s GPO, was engaged to complete an extension of the existing house to provide an edifice to the southwest garden front. This is the latter day surviving Farnham House, which is now incorporated as the centrepiece of the hotel complex design.'
Short History version-
Farnham House, located at Farnham, a small rural district to the north-west of Cavan, is one of the largest country houses in the county. It was built for Barry Maxwell, 3rd Lord Farnham (later created, by the second creation, Earl of Farnham), head of the Maxwell dynasty, around 1780. The house was designed by James Wyatt. It was extended in 1810 to the design of Francis Johnston, a County Armagh-born, but Dublin-based, architect. It was sold by Diana, Lady Farnham (widow of Barry Maxwell, 12th Lord Farnham), to a local entrepreneur and the house and estate has per 2006 been converted into a luxury hotel and leisure complex under the Radisson SAS international hotel group.
Long history-
'In 1795, Earl of Farnham Barry asked James Wyatt, one of the most fashionable architects of that time, to draw designs for three ceilings. Although there is no evidence of them being installed at Farnham, these plans are now housed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
Some work was undertaken by Wyatt though around the 1795 timeframe and to this day, a library case where his design has been noted stands inserted in an alcove on the staircase landing.
In the early 1800’s, coat of arms was incorporated onto the façade of the house. Comprised of the arms of the Maxwell and Barry family, they are supported by two bucks, with a buck’s head on top of the Baron’s coronet as the crest. The family motto if Je suis prêt – I am ready.
In 1802 Francis Johnston, architect for Dublin’s GPO, was engaged to complete an extension of the existing house to provide an edifice to the southwest garden front. This is the latter day surviving Farnham House, which is now incorporated as the centrepiece of the hotel complex design.'
' When dry rot was discovered in Farnham House in 1961, the oldest part of the house, looking out across the parkland, and the additions built in 1839, were demolished. In 1995, Barry Owen Somerset Maxwell, 12th Baron Farnham (1931-2001), abandoned farming and leased the agricultural lands to local farmers.
The 12th Baron Farnham, was due to retire on his 70th birthday, but he died on 22 March 2001, a few days before this planned retirement. His widow, Diana, Lady Farnham, sold the house and the estate to a local entrepreneur, Roy McCabe, and they have since been converted into this luxury hotel and leisure complex. '
