STORYLINE:
An exhibition at the National Museum in Rio de Janeiro is showing Brazilians for the first time the kind of dinosaurs that walked there millions of years ago.
The exhibition, called Em Busca dos Dinossauros - In Search for the Dinosaurs - is the result of an expedition to various regions of Brazil.
The material was collected over 3 months and revealed fossils of plant eating and meat eating dinosaurs, crocodiles, turtles and insects.
Paleontologists also found footprints of dinosaurs frozen in thr rock, as well as the fossils of fish and sea living dinosaurs called pterosaurs.
Most Brazilians are unaware of the wealth of dinosaur fossils that exist in their country.
Which is prehaps why the museum's exhibition has been attracting crowds from the first day it opened.
The reconstruction of a espínosauridae - 4,5 meters high and 7 meters long - at the entrance, is one of the main attractions.
The reptile lived in Brazil´s north-eastern region about 80 million years ago.
The exhibition goes on until 7 September, after which it will travel around Brazil

METEORITO BENDEGÓ - MAIOR PEDRA EXTRATERRESTRE CAÍDA NO BRASIL
O Meteorito do Bendegó, parte do Museu Nacional é a maior pedra extraterrestre caída no Brasil.

Brazil: This COCKROACH-laced bread may save humanity but can you handle the crunch?
Looking for an easy, affordable way to get a high protein diet? Researchers of the Federal University of Rio Grande (FURG) in Rio Grande do Sul may have come across a crunchy answer, although it might turn your stomach; cockroach-laced bread.
SOT, Lauren Mengon, Federal University of Rio Grande researcher (Portuguese): It's a special cockroach: its scientific name is Nauphoeta cinerea, they are bred in captivity. A lot of care is put into what they eat, [as] they only eat fruits and vegtables.
SOT, Myrian Melado, Federal University of Rio Grande researcher (Portuguese): Insects don't create waste. If we think of the amount of water we need to breed an insect, compared to the amount of it needed for cattle breeding, it's infinitely less. They take less time to grow, [as] the Cinerea cockroach we use takes an overall of 75 days from the first stage until the last.
SOT, Myrian Melado, Federal University of Rio Grande researcher (Portuguese): Cockroaches taste like nuts, that is, they remind us of chesnut or peanut. They're really good and tasty, and [their presence] does not affect the favour of the bread.

National Museum of Rio | Museu Nacional do Rio de Janeiro #40
National Museum of Rio | Museu Nacional do Rio de Janeiro #40
The Museu Nacional (National Museum) is the oldest scientific institution in Brazil dedicated to the research and production of knowledge in memory and is linked to the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). Its history dates back to the founding of the Royal Museum by D. João VI, in 1818, whose main objective was to spread the knowledge and study of the natural sciences in Brazilian lands. Today, it is recognized as a center of research excellence in natural history and anthropology in Latin America. Holds a collection consisting of more than 20 million items spread over collections that serve as a basis for the research developed by the departments of Anthropology, Botany, Entomology, Geology and Paleontology, Vertebrates and Invertebrates. After a long period of historical erasure, sponsored by the Republic, the memory of the Brazilian monarchy comes back to the scene redefining space, time, objects and memories.
The collections, scientific research and teaching
Much of the collections of the National Museum were gathered during the Regency and Empire, including those from the Museum of the Emperor, located in one of the rooms of the Palace of Boa Vista. D. Pedro II, like the Empress Leopoldina, his mother, had great interest in the collecting and study of natural sciences. Through permanent and temporary exhibitions, about three thousand objects take to the public the result of the knowledge produced by research departments and the work of conservation and restoration. Brazil Drone Flight: Brazil, a vast South American country, stretches from the Amazon Basin in the north to vineyards and massive Iguaçu Falls in the south. Rio de Janeiro, symbolized by its 38m Christ the Redeemer statue atop Mount Corcovado, is famed for its busy Copacabana and Ipanema beaches as well as its enormous, raucous Carnaval festival, featuring parade floats, flamboyant costumes, and samba music and dance. Vibrant São Paulo is packed with shops, restaurants and cultural institutions including the noted Museum of Art. Brazils capital, Brasília, founded in 1960, is a planned city with modernist buildings by Oscar Niemeyer. The northeastern state of Bahia, known for beaches and dense Amazon rainforest, reflects African influences in its capoeira martial arts, axé dance music and moqueca (a coconut milk-seafood stew). Its capital, Salvador, retains its 16th- and 17th-century core. Farther north are Alagoas coral reefs, Maranhãos sand dunes and Portuguese colonial town Olinda. Western Pantanals wetlands shelter caimans and jaguars. [wikipedia // Google]
