Bo'ness and Kinneil Railway in Scotland
Family trip to Bo’ness & Kinneil Railway in Scotland for my son Kyle's Birthday
The Bo’ness & Kinneil Railway has been developed since 1979 on a reclaimed site on the south shore of the Firth of Forth and now welcomes over 60,000 visitors aboard nostalgic steam and heritage diesel trains and through the doors of Scotland’s largest railway museum every year.
Several historic buildings have been obtained and re-erected to provide a traditional railway setting. Bo’ness station opened in 1981. The line was extended to Kinneil in 1984 and to Birkhill in 1989, where the Fireclay Mine was open to the public (closed permanently in 2013). From 2010 the passenger service operates over the extension to Manuel where a new platform was opened in mid 2013.
The railway is a popular film location; recent filming includes Case Histories for the BBC in 2011, Ken Loach’s The Angels’ Share, Cloud Atlas and The Railway Man.
The Museum of Scottish Railways at Bo’ness is three large buildings full of historic locomotives, carriages and wagons, as well as models, displays and photographs telling the history of building, operating and using railways in Scotland. The Museum is recognised by Museums Galleries Scotland as being of national importance to Scotland

British Trains 13 - Fort William to Mallaig Jacobite steam and Bo'ness and Kenneil railway 1999
a video of steam, July 1999, summer as you can tell by the weather.
Firstly, sorry about the low res of this clip, as unfortunately it is what was recoverable from a 15 year old video tape.
the first clip is a trip on the Bo'ness and Kinneil railway, which is home to the Scottish railway preservation society.
the second clip was a trip on the Jacobite steam service from Fort William to Mallaig.
filmed over 2 days, the first day on the train, then the second day, chasing by car. the weather for the 2 days was wet, but thats Scotland. this does mean, that the B1 did slip a bit in the rail as there are steep grades and sharp curves over the route. one of the first clips is the train traversing the swing bridge go the caledonian canal, at the bottom of Neptunes staircase locks which are a series of 8 locks built by Thomas Telford between 1803 and 1822. i suspect i had a flat battery on the camera which was why there was no running into Mallaig clip or anything on the return, and on the chase day, i just couldn't get to the station before arrival
locos are north British Maude 65243 at Bo'ness, and Thompson B1 number 1264 on the Jacobite
some locations on this route were used in the Harry Potter movies, for example, shots of trains at Glenfinnan on the viaduct
B1 1264 is owned by the Thompson B1 Locomotive trust and was also allocated the number 61264 under the BR numbering scheme

From Wikipedia: National Museums Scotland was formed by Act of Parliament in 1985, amalgamating the former National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland and The Royal Scottish Museum. The National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh, Scotland, was formed in 2006 with the merger of the new Museum of Scotland, with collections relating to Scottish antiquities, culture and history, and the adjacent Royal Museum (so renamed in 1995), with collections covering science and technology, natural history, and world cultures. The two connected buildings stand beside each other on Chambers Street, by the intersection with the George IV Bridge, in central Edinburgh. The museum is part of National Museums Scotland. Admission is free.

STRATHSPEY RAILWAY AND BO'NESS AND KINNEIL RAILWAY
railway maneuvers Bo'ness
This was some railway shunting maneuvers that I managed to capture on my last visit to the Bo'ness and Kinneil Railway .The Museum of Scottish Railways will have a new addition to their collection, a lovingly restored Glasgow & South Western Railway 6-wheel passenger train Brake Van No.122 , and to make space for it the FV 432 Infantry Carrier, which had been on loan from The Tank Museum as part of a display in the Museum of Scottish Railways displayed on a Rectank wagon built by The Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway in 1918 for the Army and is number 84005 the FV 432 Infantry Carrier, will be returning by road transport back to the Tank Museum.
Some facts:-
The Glasgow & South Western Railway 6-wheel passenger train Brake Van No.122
Acquired in 1967 by the SRPS was used by the Steam Locomotive Department for many years as their bothy.
Built 1901, G&SWR Kilmarnock Works. Diagram 16.
Development from short 4-wheeled coaches to 6-wheeled ones like this vehicle improved the ride, but by modern standards they were still uncomfortable. Nevertheless, 6-wheeled (and some 4-wheeled) carriages remained in use on branch line and workmen's trains into the 1930s.
This van was built during James Manson's superintendency, and is a late example of a 6-wheeled carriage. It would originally have been painted in the company's maroon livery, lined and lettered in gold. It has seats and lookouts for the guard, and a coal fired stove.
When new it would have been used on the G&SWR's express trains between Glasgow or Carlisle, and Stranraer. The body is 31 ft long.

Young Scot Awards 2013 - Bo'Ness Scottish Railway Preservation Society - Heritage
The Bo'Ness Scottish Railway Preservation Society Youth Group, 12 -- 16 are an amazing group of young people who help to preserve Scotland's oldest steam railway. In all weathers and weekends, these youngsters are cleaning locos and carriages, keeping platforms clear and painting fences.
The group spend hours helping to preserve the country's steam heritage but also help to make it a tourist attraction and something that is still very much part of the community.
The young people volunteer at large events including the Spooky Train, the Santa Train and the Black Bun Train which are sold out months in advance. They all wear authentic uniforms and are always polite and helpful.
Their aim is simple, to ensure the railway can be seen and enjoyed and preserved for future generations.
Battery train to make debut in Scotland
Vivarail has just delivered a converted London Underground train to the heritage Bo’ness and Kinneil Railway for three days of free public trials. It is among the first such trains north of the Border since the short-lived Sputnik railcar on the Deeside line near Aberdeen 60 years ago. The two-carriage train will be put through its paces over steep - and potentially leaf-slippy parts of the five-mile line from 10-12 October. It can run for 40 miles at up to 60mph. The batteries take four minutes to recharge. Such trains could replace diesel over gaps in the electric network, such as around Glasgow.

Built by the Caledonian Railway at St Rollox Works, Glasgow, in 1907 No 419 was designed by J.F. Mcintosh for branch line work, fast suburban and banking duties.
Caledonian Railway 419 is the flagship of the Scottish Railway Preservation Society. It appears on the society’s letter heading and has represented the SRPS at numerous events on both sides of the border and presently had a full overhaul and painted in a Perth blue livery.
