The World Museum of Insects and Natural Wonders, Chiang Mai, Thailand
The Museum of Insects and Natural Wonders in Chiang Mai is a quirky collection of critters which has to be seen to be believed. Every spare surface of the modest venue on Srimankalajarn Road (a couple of streets over from Nimmanhaemin Road, west of Chiang Mai Old City) is covered with beetles, butterflies, stick insects, stones, fossils and seashells. The effect is like walking into a giant kaleidoscope of brightly coloured carapaces.
History of the Museum of Insects and Natural Wonders The museum is a labour of love, created over the course of more than half a century by Dr Rampa Rattanarithikul and her husband, Manop. Dr Rampa started out collecting and mounting mosquito specimens as part of her work with a malaria control programme in 1959. She personally named 13 new species of mosquito and the collection now includes examples of all 459 known mosquito species in Thailand. The Museum of Insects and Natural Wonders opened in 2002 and contains examples of more than 10,000 species, each carefully and responsibly collected by Dr Rampa and Khun Manop. The old couple are generally around the museum and are very enthusiastic about their work and their collection, happy to talk at great length about each exhibit.

Getting to the Museum of Insects and Natural Wonders The museum is located roughly halfway between Chiang Mai Old City and Nimmanhaemin Road. Finding it can be a little tricky, though. The building is fairly unremarkable from the outside and, because of its long and complicated name, asking to be taken there will often confuse taxi and tuk tuk drivers. If you ask them to take you to the Green Palace Hotel, you’ll find the museum next door.

The Museum of World Insects and Natural ,Chiang Mai
Do you know the first species of mosquito was discovered in 1762 and in Thailand 436 different species have been discovered? Many species of mosquitoes in Thailand do not have the capability to transfer disease to humans.
When I have a good chance to visit here, uncle Manop told me that all living things have their own lifecycle, moving through birth and youth, health and sickness, old age and death. There are only 4 mosquito vectors of malaria. He also told me that It's much easier to win 20 million baht lottery ticket than to contract and become sick with malaria
Mr. Manop is the one in the world who knows more about mosquitoes. Just come to The museum of world insects and natural wonders. Get to know them and you will understand.
WEIRD THAILAND VLOG: Museum of World INSECTS and Natural Wonders
THAILAND VLOG - This was a surprise. Found a massive insect museum in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The official name for this strange place was the Museum of World Insects and Natural wonders. It had THOUSANDS of insects and bugs.
I spent 3 months backpacking through South East Asia. The countries I visited were Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand. I would say these videos show how you can do Southeast Asia on a shoestring as we went to very budget friendly places. This video is a mixture between a backpacking vlog and a street walking video. I like to show what it’s REALLY like in the places I visit.

ChiangMai Insects Museum.
This museum is the labor of love from one couple's life's work, inspiring the passion to save and learn to understand the important role of the enduring spirit of wonderful natural creations, for it remains the beautiful world forever.
Museum of world Insects & Natural Wonders
Great place to wander for a time in Chiang Mai. The place is a cross between an exhibition and an installation in honour of Insect life of all kinds.
Museum of World Insects
Today we explored the airport shopping plaza and were disappointed :( it's just imported items, which we have at home. If you're from North America, I don't recommend it!
We found the museum of world insects and natural wonders! This I recommend! It's family run from their home and they have dedicated years to researching the insects and diseases they carry. Very reasonable too!
We ended up bowling and had a very creepy adventure! We ended the night at the market with dinner!

10 Best Attractions in Nimmanhaemin
10 Best Attractions in Nimmanhaemin
Chiang Mai Zoo
Whatever your opinion on zoos, it’s safe to say that the one here in Chiang Mai is one of the best in the country (although Thailand does has its fair share of rather depressing zoos elsewhere). Set in the foothills of the looming Doi Suthep mountain range above, the setting couldn’t be better, with many of the spacious animal enclosures shaded by the tropical surrounds and benefiting from the slightly cooler temperatures at this elevated position.
Wat Suan Dok
Instantly recognisable with its array of brilliant white-washed chedis dotted around a lovely landscaped garden with giant golden stupa as the centrepiece, Wat Suan Dok is up there with some of the most impressive temples in Chiang Mai. It’s not actually located on Nimmanhaemin Road itself; you’ll have to walk to the southern end of the main road, take a right onto ‘Suthep Road’ then it’s just a few minutes’ walk from there – you can’t miss it.
Maya Lifestyle Shopping Mall
Right at the top (north) of Nimmanhaemin Road you’ll find Chiang Mai’s newest and hippest mall – Maya. It’s not as big or comprehensive on the retail front as Central Plaza or Central Festival, but it does prove a huge hit particularly with the local university crowd with its range of cheap to mid-range fashion, smart restaurants, cool cafes and a number of rooftop bars at the top (head to Myst for some fancy molecular cocktails at night).
Wat Umong
You might need a taxi or tuk-tuk to reach Wat Umong if you’re staying in the Nimman area of Chiang Mai, but it’s only a short hop away from the city and well worth a look. Still standing after 700 years, Wat Umong certainly shows its age, despite numerous touch-ups over the years.
Museum of World Insects and Natural Wonders
Run by entomology enthusiast Manop Rattanarithikul (nicknamed ‘The Mosquito Man’... need we say more) and his wife ‘Rampa’ who has a PhD in the same field, this quirky museum is a decent way of spending a few hours doing something a little bit different in Chiang Mai.
Huay Kaew Arboretum
Right by Chiang Mai University and next to the sprawling zoo in the foothills of Doi Suthep Mountain sits this delightful wooded area that’s totally free to the public. It’s kind of like a nice park where the tropical trees are the main attraction.
Chiang Mai University
It might seem like an unusual tourist attraction, but the sprawling Chiang Mai University campus actually attracts thousands of visitors each year who aren’t coming to study; they just want to take a look! Authorities officially opened the gates (at Huay Kaew Road) to tourists back in 2014, and the 50 baht entrance fee allows you to walk around the lush gardens and ponds that link the campus building like a small park.
Monkchat Meditation Retreat
Even if you’re not Buddhist, spending the afternoon talking to a monk, or even enrolling in a meditation retreat, can be a memorable experience. In Chiang Mai, plenty of tourist-friendly centres have opened up in recent years (probably thanks to the bohemian backpacker crowd who favour the north of the country).
Ang Kaew Reservoir
This is a great spot located inside the grounds of Chiang Mai University to cool off and maybe take a nap in the shade of a hot afternoon. Chiang Mai city centre is a little bit short in the way of public parks and open green spaces (although you don’t have to travel far outside to become completely lost in greenery).
Minimal Gallery
For a dose of art right by Nimman Road, Minimal Gallery is well-worth checking out. The first floor doubles up as an art space and minibar (meaning you can drink while browsing the art), while the second floor is home to an arts studio and academy for local talent to do their thing. New exhibitions are held regularly (for the best atmosphere, try to find out when the next opening night is using their Facebook link below).
** LIVE ** at the Winter Wonderland, CMU, Chiang Mai.
The inaugural event for the Chiang Mai University's Winter Wonderful, a relaxing opportunity to explore some beauty and health products, fashionable attire, food and drink and entertainment for all of the family.
This is a YouTube live video on the last of the 3-day festival at CMU's Square near Nimman, Chiang Mai.
Enjoy as I interact with some of the stall holders and sample the food and drink.
More live video streams will come out soon as events take place or I find something very interesting in Chiang Mai, or elsewhere, that will interest you and broaden your world view of people and places; that is my goal. Plus, I have many travel videos around South East Asia to come out over the next few months. Stay tuned.

Another in the Amarillo College Natural History Museum Series. This one the HOWARD COLLECTION BUTTERFLIES.
The largest and most significant collection of its type in the region, the collection contains thousands of specimens many of which are among the most spectacular and rare species.
The collection is a public treasure and is presented to hopefully inspire future generations as to the wonder of the natural world.
