Recife - Brazil
Recife is the 4th-largest Metropolitan area in Brazil with 3,768,902 inhabitants, the largest metropolitan area of the North/Northeast Regions, the 4th-largest metropolitan influence area in Brazil, and the capital of the state of Pernambuco. The population of the city proper was 1,561,659 in 2009. Recife is located where the Beberibe River meets the Capibaribe River to flow into the Atlantic Ocean. It is a major port on the Atlantic Ocean. The name Recife means reef in Portuguese, in allusion to the coral reefs that are present by the city's shores. The many rivers, small islands and over 50 bridges found in Recife city center characterize its geography and gives it the moniker of the Brazilian Venice.
The Metropolitan Region of Recife is the main industrial zone of the State of Pernambuco; most relevant products are those derived from cane (sugar and ethanol), electronics, food, and others; thanks to the fiscal incentives of government, many industrial enterprises were started in the 1970s and 1980s. Recife has a tradition of being the most important commercial center of the North/Northeastern region of Brazil with more than 52,500 business enterprises in Recife itself plus 32,500 in the Metro Area which will total more than 85,000.
A combination of a large supply of labor and significant private investments turned Recife into Brazil's second largest medical center, (second only to São Paulo); modern hospitals with state-of-the-art equipment receive patients from several neighboring States. Like all other cities in the Northeast, Recife is developing its tourist sector. The beach of Porto de Galinhas, 60 kilometers (37 miles) south of the city, has been repeatedly awarded the title of best beach in Brazil and has drawn many tourists. Recife's infrastructure is among the most developed in Brazil for travellers and business people, though there is wide room for improvement.
The city is also a renowned educational center, and home to the Federal University of Pernambuco, the largest university in Pernambuco. Several Brazilian historical figures, such as the poet and abolitionist Castro Alves, moved to Recife to attain their education.
Recife is served by the Gilberto Freyre/Guararapes International Airport which connects Recife to several Brazilian destinations as well as major international cities in Europe, the United States and South America. Also, together with Natal these are the only Brazilian cities with direct flights to the paradise islands of Fernando de Noronha, World Heritage Site since 2001. ( source Wikipedia )

South Africa Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination South-Africa.
Johannesburg is the commercial centre of South Africa. Since gold was first discovered there, everything has revolved around money and from the 50th floor of Africa’s tallest building, The Carlton Towers, there is an all-engulfing view of the city’s narrow streets and jungle of concrete and glass. The African Museum is a contemporary building and one of South Africa’s most exquisite landmarks, it contains a large variety of geological exhibits and detailed accounts of the city’s past surface mining that gave rise to the country’s massive gold rush. The resistance to apartheid is also illustrated, as well as the history of Africa’s native inhabitants who journeyed from present day Botswana to the south of the country. In contrast to Johannesburg, Pretoria grew at a calmer pace and has developed from a Boer farming municipality into South Africa’s administrative capital. Located on a hill is the Vortrekker Monument that is a reminder of the Boers’ Great Trek and, in 1830, the crucial battle in which they defeated the Zulus. Sun City is a magnificent fantasy world full of African ambience and the Sun City Hotel is the casino that made Sol Kerzner the richest man in South Africa, whereas the futuristic Cascades Hotel derived its name from its wonderful setting of waterfalls, pools and lush plant life. The route travels northeast over the misty and one time heavily defended Drakens Mountains in the direction of the Kruger Park that extends along the border with Mosambique. From Kruger, the journey continues across Swaziland and Kwazulu Natal to Port Elizabeth on the Indian Ocean’s south coast. Along the rocky coastline a road leads to the southernmost tip of Africa, the Cape Of Good Hope. For those lucky enough to experience it, the drive on the spectacular mountain road around the Cape is an amazing adventure. One of the many natural wonders of this unique land that unites European influence with African pride.

Recife is the four-teen-largest metropolitan area in Brazil with 3,743,854 inhabitants (2012), the largest metropolitan area of the North/Northeast Regions, the 3th-largest metropolitan influence area in Brazil, and the capital and largest city of the state of Pernambuco. Trams are making a comeback on Rio's streets
(5 Jul 2016) LEAD IN:
Trams are making a comeback in the Olympic host city of Rio de Janiero.
The iconic yellow Santa Teresa tram has had a safety makeover, while a new network of modern vehicles is under construction.
STORY-LINE
Back in 1968, most trams like this were discontinued in Rio de Janeiro.
Considered an outdated technology, buses and cars took over the city.
Only the yellow wooden Santa Teresa tram remained, linking the downtown area to an adjoining hill along a former aqueduct.
The Santa Teresa tram is a symbol of this most bohemian of Rio's neighbourhoods.
Shops like this one sell souvenir cushions, toys and art inspired by the vehicle.
A favourite with tourists, the Santa Teresa tram is operating on a no charge basis until the Olympics, when many visitors from abroad are expected to use it.
But the tram has been brought back to life after a fatal accident in 2011 caused it to be taken out of service.
Six people died and 50 were injured in the crash, which was caused by a brake failure.
The tram system was deactivated following the accident, but locals demanded its return.
The authorities went to Lisbon for technical help from a local tram company to make the vehicles safe.
The current Santa Teresa tram is a modern copy of the original, which ran here for more than a century and was kept working by patching and improvisation until the accident took it out of service.
Compared with the old design, the new tram has many controls instead of the single handle that used to make it start and stop.
The tram now has four different braking systems.
This here is the rail brake, it is magnetic. It is activated by a magnet, says Luiz Mello, the engineer who oversaw the modernisation process.
The trams are still powered by the traditional method: an overhead cable running a high voltage direct current which needs to be operated by hand when the tram changes direction.
But elsewhere in the city, the old is making way for the new.
A network of modern trams is under construction, called the Rio de Janiero Light Rail system, or VLT.
The main line was inaugurated on 5 June in time for the Olympics, but rails are still being laid for a second line that will not be ready until after the games.
The VLT was designed by French railway manufacturer, Alstom and uses the modern tram technology, which powers the vehicles with electricity from the ground.
A third middle rail is only activated when the vehicle is directly on top of the tracks, which is designed to prevent accidents.
Rio's mayor, Eduardo Paes, says the new tram network will make Rio a more modern city.
Way back it was decided Brazil would adopt a motor vehicle model, betting on more and more cars. Cities and cars don't work well together. We are beginning to offer quality transport in Rio and that will enable people to leave their car at home, he says.
The tram currently runs between Rio's main bus station and Santos Dumont airport, passing along the city's main street, Rio Branco avenue.
The second line will link the main train station with the ferry port.
Five of these new trams came from France and 27 are being manufactured in Brazil.
Authorities say systems like this one may be used in other Brazilian cities in the future.
All 28 drivers are taking part in a seven month training programme on the new vehicles, which started with a visit to Paris for some of them.
All the drivers are being trained both on board and in the simulator for every kind of emergency situation, says Alexandre Soares, who is in charge of the training.
At the training centre, the simulator is used to replicate different kinds of emergency, such as a person falling over on the tracks and even a fire in the middle of the street.

Of course not fit all , the city is a lot of great and is marked by cultural diversity , but is an attempt to bring together some of the most important points of the city.
About the city: The History Center streets carrying tourists to the early history of Brazil. During site visits, one can learn with the help of guides, how it developed the colonization of the first capital of the country. Until 1763, Salvador hosted the capital of the Portuguese Crown in the Americas, and some monuments built during this period are still preserved, which makes the architectural heritage of this highly prized city. In Pelourinho, there are more than 800 houses of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
Several churches and museums complete the structure of this neighborhood, which in the past was official point of torture of slaves. The city stands out historically, too, for being the main port in the southern hemisphere until the eighteenth century. Bahia always had a different coast, whereas the largest number of beaches in the country. So, nature has been generous in the 50 kilometers of coastline that Salvador has, where the natural beauties are as vast as the very coast. With so many beaches, it's easy to explain why the city is so popular with water sports enthusiasts.
