Xi Inspects Shanxi Province, Stressing Reform, Development, Stability Ahead of CPC National Congre
Chinese President Xi Jinping urged Party committees at all levels to advance reform and development, ensure stability and create a favorable environment for the upcoming 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
Xi, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks during an inspection tour of northern China's Shanxi Province from Wednesday to Friday.
He stressed the importance of the CPC National Congress for the Party and the country's political life.
Xi visited the Lyuliang revolutionary memorial museum in Xingxian County of Lyuliang City and placed a basket of flowers in tribute to the country's martyrs.
Xi spoke highly of the Lyuliang spirit, saying that it should be served as encouragement for the whole country to improve people's lives and achieve the great rejuvenation of the nation.
We should never forget our predecessors who sacrificed their lives for the revolution. We should never forget our older generations who devoted themselves to the founding of New China and the socialist revolution and construction. The visit to the revolutionary memorial museum gave me a great enlightenment. I have learned from the visit the valuable spirit and I would call it the 'Lyuliang spirit'. The spirit should continue to prevail in the new era and the new times for a better life of the Chinese people and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, said Xi.
During the tour, Xi spoke about how the poverty relief campaign is closely related to the target of achieving a moderately prosperous society in an all-round way by 2020.
Xi visited the impoverished village of Zhaojiawa in Xinzhou City of Shanxi Province.
Xi told the local people and officials how to improve the living conditions through relocation and called for better supporting measures that would ensure income sources for the villagers.
The people's aspiration for a better life is what we should strive for. The Communist Party of China is devotedly leading all of us to get rid of poverty and become better off, to let us live a better life. Just as the old saying goes, 'A sesame stalk puts forth blossoms notch by notch, higher and higher'. Roll up your sleeves, my dear villagers and people, and work harder together with the CPC Central Committee, said Xi.
The president also met with poverty-relief work teams and praised their efforts.

Dissent in China
On 28 October in China's iconic and politically sensitive Tiananmen Square, a car crashed through crowds and exploded, killing two tourists and three suspects. Just over a week later, on 6 November, one person died and eight were injured following a series of small blasts outside a Communist Party office in Taiyuan, the capital of Shanxi province.
Whether these attacks where carried out by organised groups -- such as the separatist East Turkestan Islamic Movement -- or individuals, they show a chink in the armour of the ruling Communist Party, despite soaring expenditure on domestic security over the past decade.
In a year that marks the 25th anniversary of the massacre in Tiananmen Square, we will be joined by a panel of experts to explore the significance of these two fatal incidents, looking at the levels of dissent in China and how it is being suppressed. We will also be asking who are those behind these attacks and what are their motivations.

Protesta estudiantil en Manila contra China
Manila, 3 mar (EFE/EPA).- (Imagen: Mark Cristino).
