Muslim Market - Xi'an - China
Muslim Quarter Night Market in Xi'an, China
In the city of Xi'an (home to the largest mosque in China) the area known as the Muslim quarter comes alive at night, with vendors hawking all kinds of goods and food.
Via Wikipedia:
Due to the large Muslim population in western China, many Chinese restaurants cater to Muslims or cater to the general public but are run by Muslims. In most major cities in China, there are small Islamic restaurants or food stalls typically run by migrants from Western China (e.g., Uyghurs), which offer inexpensive noodle soup.
Xi'an Muslim Street - Episode 1 | Halal Street Food in China
Xi’an Muslim Street is actually made up of several densely packed streets filled with over 300 varieties of mind-blowing halal street food and restaurants…bring as much cash as possible!
Legend says that the bank sends a carrier to collect the cash from the marinated meat stall (the one with the all-day-long queue) at the end of video.
Look out for the next Episode where we continue our journey in Xi’an, and snow!

Xi'an City Wall & Muslim Market | China
Like what we do? Please Donate:
Initial construction of the Xi’an city wall took place during the Tang Dynasty. At first, the wall was built out of layers of earth with the base layers being made from quick lime and glutinous rice extract. Later, during the Ming Dynasty, enlargement of the wall began, resulting in the structure we know today.
The wall at Xi’an has undergone restoration three times throughout the centuries and as a result, it’s the most complete surviving city wall in China, and one of the largest ancient military defensive systems in the world.
The Xi’an Market
Xian is one of the oldest cities in China and was the starting point of the Silk Road 1,000 years ago. Because of this, middle eastern merchants and students flocked to these few city streets and married the local Huon Chinese, thus, the muslim district was born!
Today, it is a tight nit community of over 60 thousand Chinese muslims who combine middle eastern and Chinese traditions every day. As we walked the chaotic labyrinth, we tried to process our senses. The sight of cricket fighting rings, the smell of eastern spices, all set against the islamic call to prayer. It was overwhelming, sometimes shocking, but never boring.
Overall, China was rough on our stomachs but the best meals we’ve ever experienced happened right here on these streets. This was by far our favorite city in all of China. We spent 3 days here but it was not enough time. We skipped the Terracotta Warriors though and reading more about this site, we were OK with that.

Xi’an Muslim Street Food! Xi'An Night Market. Awesome Sights and Sounds!
We were in Xi'an, China! This evening, after dinner, we visited the Bell and Drum towers, and then headed to the famous Xi'An Muslim Food Street! It was an awesome sight! Check out the sights and sounds. Amazing. Impressive variety of local food, including the Chinese Hamburger 肉夹馍, lots of grilled lamb meat on large wooden skewers, local noodles etc. Even if you didn't want to eat any of the food (which we didn't), it was certainly a sight to behold. Some stalls were clearly much more popular than others - there were queues.
The muslim influence was visible. A good number of stalls claimed to be Halal. Also, I saw a good number of Chinese women with head-scarves.

Chinese Street Food: Xi'an Muslim Quarter (HD)
Chinese food is extremely diverse and varies from region to region. Xi'an's Muslim Quarter is one of the few places in China where you can taste a little bit of everything. This area is a mixing pot of cultures, flavors and was the highlight of our trip to Xi'an. Yes, it was cooler than seeing the Taracotta Army or riding a tandem bike across a 3,000-year old wall. Located within the shadow of the Drum Tower, Humin Jie is a 500-metre street lined with restaurants whose proprietors are almost exclusively Chinese Muslims. The food is characteristically central Asian; featuring barbecued lamb skewers, thick noodles and heavy breads -- though there are some special local delicacies. Snacks include a mutton-stuffed pancake (Liu Yang Rou Paomo) and thin noodles with mincemeat (Shaozi Mien) source:

Chinese Street Food in Xi'an - HALAL Street Food in China
Xi’an was the starting point of the ancient Silk Road 1,000 years ago in the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC-9 AD).
A number of merchants and overseas students from the Arabic countries and Persia went to Xi’an for business and studying since the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC-9 AD); they settled down on the present Muslim Street, and they were called the Hui people by the locals.
One generation after another, the descendants of the Hui ethnic people multiplied and lived on the street, and the number has now reached over 60,000.
Though Muslim Street is regarded as a tourist scenic spot by foreigners, it's actually considered a snack street by the locals, and is an ideal place for locals to kill time during a hot summer.
As a matter of fact, what makes this Muslim Street a food street is unending lines of various restaurants and food stalls, some of which specialize in selling cakes, others in dried fruit or breads, and hordes of stalls selling barbequed meats on skewers.
Chinese Street Food - LAMB BBQ Xi'an Muslim Market
Xi'an Muslim Street or The Muslim Quarter, is a paved road with blue-gray flagstones and shaded by trees, along which the archaized stores of the Ming (1368-1644) and the Qing (1644-1911) dynasties are in line, and they're all operated by the Hui ethnic people.
Xi'an Muslim Quarter, China, October 2018
The Xi'an Muslim Quarter is a relatively large Muslim enclave in Xi’an City, China. The Xi'an Muslim Quarter is located inside the city wall of Xi'an and mainly consists the area bounded by the Xida Avenue, Beiyuan Gate, Hongbu Road, and Zaoci Street.
Xi'an Muslim Quarter has become a well-known tourism site which is famous for its culture and food.
According to history, the Muslim Quarter was a prosperous business street with lots of renowned stores. And more than 2,000 years ago, some businessmen, envoys, students from the ancient Arab, Persia, etc. started their immigration to Chang’an (长安, ancient name of Xian) that was later the start of the Silk Road. Since then, they did their business, studied, worked as officials, etc. and lived here from one generation to another. And till now, there are more than 60 thousand Hui people (回族) living in the Muslim Quarter Xian.

XI'AN, CHINA - MUSLIM STREET FOOD & ANCIENT CITY WALL ????????
The seventh day of my journey around China, where I travel from Shanghai, to Chongqing, Chengdu, Xi'an and Beijing. l arrive in Xi'an and head straight to one of the city's most iconic images, the Bell Tower. In 39C heat, I explore some of Xi'an's quieter side streets, and then go on to discover the thriving Muslim Quarter, tasting the local unique street food. After dark, I walk on top of Xi'an's Ancient City Wall, seeing spectacular views of the city by night.

The street food in Xi'an was so delicious. The restaurant food was also very nice! I had some amazing noodles and dumplings in the old quarter, the muslim quarter of Xi'an. The markets around the muslim quarter had a ton of street food to try!
I met up with my local Chinese friend Ying Ying, who gave me a tour of the muslim quarter in Xi'an. It was packed with delicious stalls to eat amazing street food. The local population is all of the hui ethnicity, and the food is all beef and lamb, so delicious! You definitely need to come here to eat!
Most of the stalls shown in this video were around the Huiminjie Hui ethnicity street, along the backroads. That is something you definitely have to do when you visit Xi'an. The food is better and you can have a real authentic experience as a local as opposed to being a tourist, that's what it's all about! I really hope you enjoy my Chinese street food in Xi'an video!
