The people of Flanders don't really go in for nice, steady, hairpinned climbs up their hills. In fact it sometimes seems like they look for the steepest hills, and just put a road straight up them! But that does lead to some truly iconic, and really, really hard climbs!
Matt and Dan rode what are, in our opinion, the five hardest climbs in Flanders, and even battled some particularly Belgian weather to work out once and for all which climb is the hardest!

De Muur-Kapelmuur, de muur van Geraardsbergen of Dé Muur. Wie nog nooit heeft gehoord van dit wielermonument is geen fietsliefhebber. Punt. Deze kasseiweg op de Oudenbenberg was jarenlang de scherprechter in de ronde van Vlaanderen.
Ruim een kilometer lang met korte stukken tegen de 20% maken de beklimming mooi, maar het zijn vooral de kasseien, de esthetiek en de prachtig kapel op de top die deze beklimming tot een monument voor Vlamingen maakt. De kasseien zijn horizontaal geplaatst en daardoor vormen deze een grillige trap die alleen is te overleven op hoge snelheid. Wie stilvalt moet op de blaren zitten.

The average grade of this climb, particularly well known because of the Ronde van Vlaanderen, is 7%. The maximum percentage of the Muur is 20%. Especially the chapel on the top of the climb is famous.

In the centre of Geraardsbergen cross the river heading east and start the climb on Brugstraat as you pass the junction with Molenstraat. This is the most iconic cobbled climb in the Tour of Flanders. It starts with a gentle incline so you can get a good pace going, as you get about toward the end under the trees the gradient gets to is maximum of 20% push the last few hundred metres and you're met with the Kapel (church) at the top.

The Wall in Geraardsbergen is known as one of the stretches in the Tour of Flanders. The racers work their way along the protected cobbled road and among the public to the top of the Oudenberg where the annual Krakelingenfeest and Tonnekensbrand is held. The final stage of Lotto Belgium Tour (Ladies) with start and finish in Geraardsbergen and two passages over the famous Muur / Kapelmuur. Race leader and Belgian champion Jolien D'Hoore started in the same time as European champion Marianne Vos, but it was her team mate Anouska Koster who won both the stage as the final GC!
