Tribute To Charlie Balogh
Charlie Balogh is originally from Trenton, New Jersey. His Musical instruction began at age 11, continuing through classical organ instruction at Trenton State College. Charlie began his professional playing career at the Phoenix Organ Stop in 1973. In 1976, Charlie moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan, performing at The Roaring 20’s restaurant (subsequently changed to Good Time Charley’s). His 14 year involvement there as a performer, musical director and owner was highly acclaimed. In 1991, Charlie returned home to Arizona with his family. In addition to performing at Organ Stop, Charlie is also a leading national concert artist, has many pipe organ recordings to his credit and was named “Organist of the Year” by the American Theatre Organ Society (ATOS) in 2000. On the evening Wednesday 20th, 2019 Charlie Balogh passed away due to complications of a severe stroke, dying doing what he loved most. For or the span of 46 Years at Organ Stop Pizza, Charlie left behind a legacy that will live on forever our family and many others. I’m going to miss you uncle Charlie. Thank you for teaching me everything, for the inspiration to become a musician. Thank you for being my hero.

Group must pony up $6 million to save Terrace Theatre
The same judge that denied a temporary restraining order, paving the way for demolition of Robbinsdale's Terrace Theatre is now allowing a slight delay of the teardown work. However, the group trying to save the theater, Friends of the Terrace LLC, must come up with $6.3 million in bond requests by 4:30 p.m. Friday to prevent demolition.
The ruling by Hennepin County Judge Michael Browne came down at 11:52 p.m. Monday. While it gives more time for an appeal process to go forward, Friends of the Terrace must decide what to do next.
Judge Browne granted two requests for bond money. One is a $2.8 million bond request by the property owner, New York-based Brixmor Property Group, which is money Brixmor says it would lose if its deal to sell the property fell through.
A $3.5 million bond was also granted for the Robbinsdale Economic Development Authority. That amount is what the city says it would lose in tax revenue if development plans fall through.
Friends of the Terrace has to come up with 100 percent of the bond monies by 4:30 p.m. Friday. If it doesn't come up with the money, Brixmor can proceed with tearing down the Terrace Theatre.
Demolition crews working for Brixmor Property Group started knocking down the Terrace Theatre Saturday. But five minutes after work began, Judge Ivy Bernhardson signed papers to stop work, giving Friends of the Terrace a temporary reprieve, leading to Judge Browne's ruling Monday night. Friends of the Terrace has also filed an appeal with the Minnesota Court of Appeals to prevent demolition, but a hearing isn't scheduled until Oct. 10.
St.Louis Park-based Inland Development Partners wants to buy the Terrace Theatre site from Brixmor Property Group. Inland is pursuing plans to tear down the Terrace Theatre and part of the adjacent Terrace Mall where a shuttered Rainbow Foods sits to make way for a Hy-Vee grocery store. When asked whether Hy-Vee would still build on the site, Inland would not say.
Our intent right now is to make that site ready for redevelopment, clearing blighted properties from it, preparing it the land itself to be redeveloped into a sight that's useful in serving Robbinsdale for many decades to come, said Inland Development Partners spokesperson Ted Davis.

Abandoned Children's Regional Psychiatric Centre | Urban Exploration Videos with Freaktography
Abandoned Children's Regional Psychiatric Centre | Urban Exploration Videos with Freaktography
This video is from an Abandoned/Closed Childrens Regional Centre for children and youth.
The centre serves families who live in Ontario Canada,
Counselling and treatment programs here were geared to help children and youth up to 21 years of age who suffered from the following difficulties:
- developmental
- emotional
- behavioural
- psychological
- psychiatric.
The province announced in 2012 that the 400 children and youth who are in day programs at the facility — which treats clients with complex mental health, behavioural and developmental challenges will be transferred to community-based agencies.
The 15 individuals who lived there at closing would also have to leave and the province has promised to “work with families’’ to provide “individualized transition plans.’’
This hospital consists of three wings with an H-shaped footprint. It has a flat roof and is faced in brown brick. The main north side is symmetrical and formal in appearance.
The first and second storeys have tall, paired, flat-topped, sash windows with transoms that run across the facade.
In the third storey are smaller sash windows in triads. All windows have pared-down classical decoration. A stone course connects the first floor window sills and a heavier stone course connects the third floor sills.
A heavy projecting cornice runs immediately above the third storey windows. All of these elements serve to emphasize the horizontal, thereby streamlining the building’s appearance.
This hospital was described as a “Palace of Sunshine”, custom-designed for children requiring helio (sun) therapy or hospitalization for long periods, e.g. while recovering from rheumatic fever, osteomyelitis, polio or surgery.
The building accommodated 112 patients in rooms with 6 to 8 cots that could all be wheeled outside in nice weather. At that time, sun and fresh air were considered necessary treatments for certain ailments. Because a natural environment was considered healthful for their patients, 50,000 tree seedlings and extensive gardens were planted on the grounds.
The site was self sufficient, with its own steam plant, water filtration system and sewage disposal system. A bus was purchased for $3,300 to connect the hospital to the nearest transportation lines and help make this “remote” location more attractive to staff.
With medical advances, including vaccinations, antibiotics and surgical techniques, the need for this type of hospital diminished over time. By the 1940s, it was being used primarily for polio cases. After a major power failure in 1954 during Hurricane Hazel when 17 babies in incubators had to be evacuated, the decision was made to close the facility.
In 1957, the property was sold to the Ontario Government to become a Hospita for children - the first residential mental health centre for children and youths in Ontario.
The facility could accommodate 72 children, aged six to seventeen. Few staff members had experience working with emotionally disturbed children, and by the time the hospital opened in January 1958, the new staff had received little training.
In addition, the target population had not been well-defined, and the first group included those with schizophrenia, brain damage, deafness, and developmental delays.
This first cohort of children literally destroyed the place by breaking windows and burning mattresses. Workers were attacked. Staff largely learned as they went, and after a period of major adjustment, order was brought to the facility and an era of effective treatment began.
In the 1960s, a new insight in child psychiatry was the revelation that experiencing a positive group living situation - even with people to whom a child was not related - could be healing to a child who previously had never lived in a “normal” family environment.
In 1972, the province constructed ten small houses on the property, and moved many of the children out of a “hospital” setting into these cottages where they could experience living in family-style groups. These cottages are still used today and are located south and west of the main building.

MEMORIES ViSITING OAK LAKE NEAR STIRLING ONTARIO
My father John E Pugh bought the Oak Lake cottage in 1954, a twenty minute drive from his work place, the Northern Electric Co in Belleville, Ontario. It's since been passed on down to my sister Margaret and brother George, who each summer raised their children there. George and Pat still own the cottage, unchanged from the early years. I still have fond memories of my first 15 years swimming, hiking, cycling and playing games there.
