Myanmar Adventure Outfitters Action Promo
Overview of multi-activity adventure activities offered by MAO in 2017. Adding more all the time.
Dark Horse Men
Dark Horse Falls is our name for our favorite waterfall near Lashio. For 6 months of every year the water level is low enough to make for some amazing adventures. So we celebrate a finish to our 2019 season with the falls, the community kids, and our MAO men who have inspired a coming generation of kids from the village.
River Exploration
Stoked to collaborate with Lashio-based Nice Studio on editing GoPro footage shot on two river trips in the backcountry outside Lashio. We've only done this trip a few times, and its challenging, but lots of excitement, and an amazing hotspring shower at the end with an (unseen in video) view of the biggest mountains in Shan State.
Lashio Market Walk
Hyperlapse walking through the Lashio market with our MAO girls buying food in the morning market and then strolling through the goods market. It’s a maze that is hard to do justice to at breakneck speed.
Exploring Lashio
Exploring just outside of Lashio city
Lashio Market Cruise
Lashio is overlooked as most guidebooks don’t say anything about it; but it’s a good sized city with a great market and diversity to experience. Come check out the city and then get out of of the city with MAO for an active adventure that will rival any in Myanmar.
Exploring & Investing
SUP, Mountain Biking, Motorcycling, Hiking, Caving, Waterfalls, and connecting with local village communities overnight. Myanmar Adventure Outfitters has many activities for your to customize impactful adventure trips near Lashio
EPIC Wild River Trekking Myanmar's Northern Shan State
Adventure truly off the beaten path with Myanmar Adventure Outfitters (MAO) trekking/floating in a roaring wild river near Lashio. I've done river trekking before but not quite like this where few have gone before, and it was a fun physical challenge to explore this river.
Northern Shan State (near the town of Lashio in Myanmar) is seldom visited by foreign travellers, but has some fantastic unspoiled nature. If you have a sense of adventure then this is definitely for you, and Myanmar is one of the most amazing countries to travel in. Well worth making the effort to get there.
Have an epic train journey over the Gokteik Viaduct to get to Lashio while you're at it:
This was Day 2 of a 3-day outdoor trip with Myanmar Adventure Outfitters (MAO) at the end of December 2018.
Day 1 - Hiking to remote Palaung & Shan villages: Watch now ????
Day 3 - Mountain biking and Dark Horse Falls: COMING ???? on 13 April 2019
Drone footage by Byron of Myanmar Adventure Outfitters (MAO). MAO is not only a great company to help you explore Northern Shan State's amazing outdoors adventures, but also invests back into developing local communities. I highly recommend them (I was not paid nor received any freebies - maybe next time guys? ????): Check them out at
First-Timer's Guide to Myanmar — Yangon, Bagan, Mandalay, Lashio | The Travel Intern
Myanmar. What an absolute stunner. On this adventure, we got to visit Yangon, Bagan, Mandalay, Inle Lake and Lashio!
Check out what we did here:
YANGON (00:23)
00:25 - Shwedagon Pagoda
Probably the most iconic landmark in Yangon — The Shwedagon Pagoda, which lights up at night and is truly a sight to behold.
BAGAN (00:37)
The best way to get around Bagan, both New Bagan and Old Bagan, is to rent an e-bike, or a normal bicycle would do!
00:58 - Bagan Hot Air Balloon Sunrise Experience
Famous for its hot air balloon ride, we hopped on the tour and got to experience it for ourselves! To catch the sunrise while floating and drifting amidst the clouds was so surreal.
01:15 - Lawkananda Pagoda
Situated on the top of the Irrawaddy River, this is not to be missed!
01:24 - Ananda Temple
Be awed by the beautiful and intricate architecture here.
01:34 - Wonders of Salay & Mount Popa Day Tour
Don't be detered by the 777 steps to reach the top — It is SO WORTH IT.
MANDALAY (01:47)
01:49 - Rv Nmai Hka Irrawaddy River Cruise
It might be 12 hours, but it was a good 12 hours, experiencing the seas and the journey from Bagan to Mandalay.
02:01 - U Bein Bridge
Either the sunrise, or the sunset, they are both spectacular. This bridge is the longest and oldest teakwood bridge in the world!
02:10 - Dee Dote Waterfall
Located deep in the mountainous region one hour away from Mandalay by car, lies this blue lagoon. The hike up to this sweet spot is WORTH IT!
02:34 - Mandalay Hill
WE KNOW it seems like you gotta hike all the time in Myanmar, but really, when you're at the top, don't you think you get the best views? :-)
INLE LAKE (02:49)
One of the must-dos if you're ever in Myanmar, is to get on a boat and explore the ins and outs of Inle Lake!
LASHIO (03:03)
03:08 - Gokteik Viaduct
The best way to travel to Lashio — by train! Get to admire the different landscapes of the countryside~
03:19 - Mountain Biking Exploration
Adrenaline junkies — This is for you! It's definitely not an easy bike path, let us assure you. But worth every bump on the road.
03:35 - Myanmar Adventure Outfitters
03:39 - Dark Horse Falls
Some of us didn't dare to cliff jump because it was THAT scary, but being up there and in the heart of all the action with other travellers made it one of our best moments during this trip!
04:01 - Homestay at Ban Khaw Village
We got to stay in a local homestay and immersed ourselves in the local culture. They were SO warm and friendly, and welcomed us with the biggest open arms ever. :-)
Would you go on the same adventure? :-D Let us know!

Hiking Myanmar's Northern Shan State - Palaung & Shan Villages
Hiking off the beaten path with Myanmar Adventure Outfitters (MAO) up a mountain to remote Palaung villages and down the valley to Shan villages, surrounded by rice paddy fields.
Northern Shan State (near the town of Lashio) is seldom visited by tourists, but is a great way to authentically see how some of Myanmar's ethnic groups live. We also had a homestay in a Shan village, which was back to basics.
This was Day 1 of a 3-day outdoor trip with Myanmar Adventure Outfitters (MAO) at the end of December 2018.
INCREDIBLE Dark Horse Falls Exploration, Myanmar
THE most amazing waterfalls I've EVER experienced is off the beaten path in Northern Myanmar's Shan state. Water water all around, to swim in, walk on, jump into. What an adventure!

Exploring Remote Rivers
Myanmar Adventure Outfitters guides, Alex & Byron, exploring for a new trip with the GoPro, discovering a remote 14km stretch that winds its way between the mountains whose jungles are feared to be possessed by tigers and leopards. Remote is not just wild, but beautiful!

73 | TRAVEL VLOG | VILLAGE LYFE
Have you guessed where I am yet? There are huge clues in this video! First-time paddle boarding, then we trekked up some mountain, in the middle of the day, and settled into our cosy spot within a village. Got to disconnect from the world a little bit and enjoy simple life for a day.
