SILENT SPEED - Renting An E-Bike in Bagan

In the old days, you made your way around the temples and pagodas of Bagan by bicycle, by horse-drawn cart, or by private car. Nowadays, however, a new option has appeared with a vengeance: e-bikes. E-bike rental operations are everywhere in Bagan, and chances are that your hotel can rent you an e-bike or there will be an e-bike rental company right across the road.
I'd never ridden on an e-bike scooter before, and, to be honest, when I planned my trip to Bagan I was looking forward to the fun of riding an e-bike just as much as seeing the famous pagodas and temples. Had I done a bike tour through Myanmar, I would have happily ridden my bicycle to the pagodas (despite the heat and the dust), but failing that, the e-bike was a fantastic option. My experience of Bagan would have been quite different without it.
Cheers,
Douglas (AKA The Cycling Canadian)

After such a hectic day yesterday, today takes a slightly slower pace.
First-Timer's Guide to Myanmar — Yangon, Bagan, Mandalay, Lashio | The Travel Intern
Myanmar. What an absolute stunner. On this adventure, we got to visit Yangon, Bagan, Mandalay, Inle Lake and Lashio!
Check out what we did here:
YANGON (00:23)
00:25 - Shwedagon Pagoda
Probably the most iconic landmark in Yangon — The Shwedagon Pagoda, which lights up at night and is truly a sight to behold.
BAGAN (00:37)
The best way to get around Bagan, both New Bagan and Old Bagan, is to rent an e-bike, or a normal bicycle would do!
00:58 - Bagan Hot Air Balloon Sunrise Experience
Famous for its hot air balloon ride, we hopped on the tour and got to experience it for ourselves! To catch the sunrise while floating and drifting amidst the clouds was so surreal.
01:15 - Lawkananda Pagoda
Situated on the top of the Irrawaddy River, this is not to be missed!
01:24 - Ananda Temple
Be awed by the beautiful and intricate architecture here.
01:34 - Wonders of Salay & Mount Popa Day Tour
Don't be detered by the 777 steps to reach the top — It is SO WORTH IT.
MANDALAY (01:47)
01:49 - Rv Nmai Hka Irrawaddy River Cruise
It might be 12 hours, but it was a good 12 hours, experiencing the seas and the journey from Bagan to Mandalay.
02:01 - U Bein Bridge
Either the sunrise, or the sunset, they are both spectacular. This bridge is the longest and oldest teakwood bridge in the world!
02:10 - Dee Dote Waterfall
Located deep in the mountainous region one hour away from Mandalay by car, lies this blue lagoon. The hike up to this sweet spot is WORTH IT!
02:34 - Mandalay Hill
WE KNOW it seems like you gotta hike all the time in Myanmar, but really, when you're at the top, don't you think you get the best views? :-)
INLE LAKE (02:49)
One of the must-dos if you're ever in Myanmar, is to get on a boat and explore the ins and outs of Inle Lake!
LASHIO (03:03)
03:08 - Gokteik Viaduct
The best way to travel to Lashio — by train! Get to admire the different landscapes of the countryside~
03:19 - Mountain Biking Exploration
Adrenaline junkies — This is for you! It's definitely not an easy bike path, let us assure you. But worth every bump on the road.
03:35 - Myanmar Adventure Outfitters
03:39 - Dark Horse Falls
Some of us didn't dare to cliff jump because it was THAT scary, but being up there and in the heart of all the action with other travellers made it one of our best moments during this trip!
04:01 - Homestay at Ban Khaw Village
We got to stay in a local homestay and immersed ourselves in the local culture. They were SO warm and friendly, and welcomed us with the biggest open arms ever. :-)
Would you go on the same adventure? :-D Let us know!

Myanmar: Bagan, Mandalay, Yangon (2018)
January 2018. The country only really opened up a few years ago. So wanted to explore before the mass waves of tourists arrive. Was in a rush so squeezed in what I could in 5 days.
Itinerary:
Day 1: arrived Yangon in morning, brief city tour in friend's car, University of Yangon, Inya Lake, overnight bus to Bagan
Day 2 - Bagan exploration: rented electric scooter from hotel, temple hopping, dinner at Shwe Ou Food Garden (New Bagan) (try the home made ice cream)
Day 3: morning temple hopping, midday bus to Mandalay, dinner at Shan Ma Ma, walked around palace at night, Mandalay Marionettes puppet show
Day 4: Daw Shan Noodle breakfast, U Bein bridge, Mandalay Hill, Golden Duck restaurant, Mandalay Palace, overnight bus to Yangon
Day 5: Yangon morning street food, walk around CBD, National Museum, Schwedagon pagoda (go in late afternoon to see it in both daylight and evening)
Day 6: morning flight out of Yangon
General tips:
-Insect repellent at all times, especially in the cities
-Overnight inter-city buses are extremely cold (turn AC to 16dec C for some reason) - bring warm clothes onto bus
-Yangon traffic is nuts - budget plenty of time to get from CBD to inter-city bus station
-Bagan area is pretty small so doesn't matter whether you stay in Old Bagan, Nyang U, New Bagan etc - so long as you have electric scooter
-Temple entrance requires covered shoulders and knees - sapoe (traditional dress for men) is actually quite comfortable and wearing shorts underneath helps with hot weather
-Temple entrance also requires barefoot so wear flip flops for convenience
-Don't step on broken glass or an ant's nest when in barefoot...like I did...
-Many ATMs in Mandalay didn't accept my Citibank card - better to withdraw more every time, or prepare more USD
VLOG Getting Started in Bagan: Renting ebikes + first sunset
We arrive in Bagan and attempt to explore the ruins by ebike. We visit Buledi Pagoda for sunset, when things take an unexpected turn.

The road to Mandalay. And the rest of Myanmar, 2018.
Hi there,
During Chinese Spring Festival 2018, we managed to gather a solid group of friends to take a 3-week trip through Myanmar!
We came from all over (Germany, Czech Republic, China, Thailand), and decided to meet up in Yangon. Here we spent about 2 days, which turned out to already be enough time to get scammed!
From Yangon we took a bus to Mandalay, where we spent our days cycling around town, and taking pick-up trucks to the U-Bein bridge and a waterfall.
From Mandalay we took a 12-hour 'cruise' to Bagan, famous for its temples. We didn't really know what to expect at first, but it turned out to be a huge area full of ancient temples. The best way to get around here, is by rental e-bike. Pro-tip: Watch the sunrise. Yes, it's early, but worth it.
Afterwards, we had a bumpy ride to Kalaw. A bus ride that was supposed to last only about 6 hours (?), ended up taking the whole day, as our bus broke down. We spent the better part of our afternoon in a shabby restaurant along the main road. They had beer, though. In Kalaw we spent one night, only to do a 2-day trek starting the next morning.
The trek took us through little villages and nice scenery. At the end of the first day, we ended up at a monastery on top of a mountain, where we stayed the night. However, the wasn't much sleeping, as we first spent our time playing football with the monks until sundown, after which we played Taboos with our friend Mandalay Rum until deep in the night.
The next day, another day of hiking, all the way to Inle Lake. Here we took the local form of transportation, a wee boat, to take us to our accommodation. The rest of our time in Inle we spent cycling, taking more boats to see more sunsets and sunrises. We also managed to end up at a vineyard on top of a hill, where we saw yet another, yep, sunset.
After Inle, we decided that we had enough of the backpacking-existence. As such, we decided to take a flight back to Yangon, then a 6-hour private car to the west coast, and stay at a 5-star resort. Okay, we still took the budget option by sleeping in tents on the beach, but the beach, pool and especially breakfast, were top-notch!
After spending 5 days in the 5 star resort, we made our way back to Yangon, only to say our goodbyes and all be on our way.
Amazing trip, thanks to everyone for being there. Until next time!
Robert

A Bike Tour in Yangon Country Side | Myanmar
Today I challenge myself and I went on a bike tour in Yangon country side, Myanmar.
We started the bike tour in Yangon by going on a boat to get outside of the city center. Once we crossed the river we go to another village.
We cycled in total for about 5 to 6 hours in total in the country side in Yangon Myanmar. It was an amazing bike tour in Yangon and I would definitely do it again. There are so many things to do in Myanmar and so many things to do in Yangon that 1 day is not enough so see everything.
If you don't know what to do in Myanmar or you don't know what to do in Yangon below are the links for the tour guide that I went with:

BAGAN, MYANMAR // IS IT WORTH THE HYPE? // MOTORBIKE ACCIDENT // MYANMAR TRAVEL VLOG
Welcome back to yet another vlog from Myanmar. In this vlog we are in the famous Bagan to spend a few days riding around all the beautiful, ancient temples on an e-bike.
We start our time in Bagan feelinga bit under the weather and decide to wait one day before we take on all the hundreds (maybe thousands) of temples and pagodas and check out the local life down by the river nearby where we stay in Nyaung-U. The next day we get on our e-bike and run into Sven, from Germany. We spend the day exploring temples, having interesting talks and we also get to witness a horrible motorbike accedent. After a couple of hours we continue exploring and we end our day watching the sunset over the river from a temple roof top.
