Urban Exploration | Happy World Theme Park | Myanmar
1997 versammelten sich einige der mächtigsten Personen der Militärdiktatur Myanmars zur Einweihung eines schillernden neuen Themenparks. Das als Erholungszentrum gedachte Areal wurde als Weltklasse mit modernsten Geräten angepriesen. Der Park ist erst vor wenigen Jahren aufgegeben worden, doch die üppige Vegetation und das feuchtwarme Klima sorgen erstaunlich effektiv dafür, dass davon schon bald nichts mehr zu sehen ist. Das freut auch die Schlangen, die sich laut Aussagen eines Strassenhändlers explosionsartig ausgebreitet haben und überall im hohen Gras lauern sollen. Weshalb der Happy World Theme Park geschlossen wurde, ist nicht bekannt, allerdings gibt es zahlreiche Theorien: In der zum Park gehörigen Karaoke Bar hat es ständig Kämpfe gegeben. Nachdem dort jemand zu Tode gekommen ist, sind die Behörden eingeschritten. Eine andere Theorie besagt, der Direktor der Firma, die die Fahrgeschäfte durchführte, sei nicht zu einem Treffen mit Regierungsvertretern erschienen, woraufhin diese den Park stillgelegt hatten. Wie dem auch sei, das Gelände liegt zu attraktiv in einer schnell wachsenden Stadt, um brach zu liegen und dem Dschungel überlassen zu werden. Die Strassenhändler und Bewohner der einfachen Unterkünfte rings herum befürchten schon bald die Ankunft von Abbruch- und Baumaschinen.
In 1997, some of the most powerful figures in the military dictatorship of Myanmar gathered for the inauguration of a dazzling new theme park. The area, intended as a recreation center, was touted as world class with state-of-the-art equipment. The park was abandoned just a few years ago, but the lush vegetation and humid, warm climate make it look like deserted for decades. This pleases also the snakes, which have increased explosively according to statements of a street vendor. Why the Happy World Theme Park was closed, is not known, but there are many theories: In the belonging karaoke bar, there were always fights. After someone was murdered there, the authorities intervened. Another theory is that the director of the managing company did not attend a meeting with government officials, who then shut down the park. However, the terrain is too attractive in a fast-growing city to lay fallow and be left to the jungle. The street vendors and inhabitants of the simple lodgings all around already fear the arrival of demolition and construction machinery.
