So, yes people are hanging on. Yes, some are managing to rebuild what little is left. And then there is obviously a core who has got nothing left and if they're not going to be reached within the next few days, we are looking at potentially seeing a massive worsening of the situation.

And I dare say, and I am convinced that the aid we have been channelling through the Myanmar Red Cross has actually reached the beneficiaries that it was intended to reach. And this we can verify because we've had not only Myanmar Red Cross people on the ground but also our own international federation national staff members accompanying this effort.

STORYLINE:
International aid workers have finally begun entering Myanmar's cyclone-devastated delta area after being blocked for more than three weeks by the country's military junta, officials said Tuesday.
But the United Nations stressed that an estimated 1.5 million (m) people in the Irrwaddy River delta were still in dire need and had not received aid.
The apparent breakthrough in the flow of aid for victims of Cyclone Nargis came after promises made by Myanmar's ruling generals to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, who returned to New York on Sunday after a four-day visit.
US and Thai flights continued to arrive in Yangon Tuesday with planes packed with basic emergency relief items: food, plastic sheeting, water purification systems, bottled water, blankets, hygiene kits and bed nets to protect against malaria.
The US military has been flying five times daily into Yangon, with 70 flights reaching the city so far.
The US estimates they have sent enough aid to help almost 150-thousand people.
Michael Gurtner, the International Federation of the Red Cross Director of Coordination and Programmes attended Sunday's donor conference in Yangon and had a chance to meet with local and international Red Cross personnel.
He said donors can be confident that the Red Cross is delivering to those in need.
This we can verify because we've had not only Myanmar Red Cross people on the ground but also our own international federation national staff members accompanying this effort.
Also, Thailand's Queen Sirikit donated 13 tons of relief supplies, including food, milk powder and shelter supplies.

Is Myanmar's transition to democracy tainted by the persecution of Rohingya Muslims? - Inside Story
Myanmar's first democratically-elected parliament in decades is being called historic. But it's also the first Parliament that does not include a single Muslim legislator.
More than a million Muslim Rohingya, who do not have citizenship, were prevented from voting in November's election.
They are among the most persecuted people on earth. Hundreds were killed during violence between Muslim and Buddhist communities in 2012. Muslim-owned businesses and homes were burned.
Since then, 140,000 Rohingya have been forced into refugee camps. Tens of thousands more have fled from the country on overcrowded boats.
So, what will Myanmar's new mainly civilian government mean for the Rohingya?
