Myeong-dong is one of the primary shopping districts in Seoul. The two main streets meet in the center of the block with one beginning from Myeong-dong Subway Station (Seoul Subway Line No. 4) and the other from Lotte Department Store at Euljiro. Many brand name shops and department stores line the streets and alleys. Common products for sale include clothes, shoes, and accessories. Unlike Namdaemun or Dongdaemun, many designer brands are sold in Myeong-dong. In addition, several major department stores have branches here, including Lotte Department Store, Shinsegae Department Store, Myeong-dong Migliore, Noon Square and M Plaza. The department stores carry many premium labels and other fashionable goods at reasonable prices.
Myeong-dong also has family restaurants, fast food, plus Korean, Western and Japanese dining options. Many restaurants in Myeong-dong specialize in dongaseu (pork cutlet) and kalguksu (noodle soup). Other businesses in the area include hair salons, banks and theaters.

Myeong-dong Cathedral is the Church for Archdiocese of Seoul and was also the birthplace for the Roman Catholic Church community in Korea. The church houses the remains of several individuals: Bishop Laurent Joseph Marie Imbert (1796-1839), and priests Peter Simon (1803-1839), James (Jacques Honor Chastan, 1803-1839) and Pourthie Jean Antoine Charles (1830-1866) and four martyrs.
Myeong-dong Cathedral is located in downtown Seoul and tourists frequently come and visit the place. Near the cathedral are other tourism spots such as Namsangol Hanok Village preserving Korean traditional houses, N Seoul Tower overlooking Seoul and Namdaemun Market, a traditional market with a wide variety of food and goods.

The Cathedral Church of Virgin Mary of the Immaculate Conception (Latin: Ecclesia Cathedralis Nostrae Domina de Immaculatæ Conceptionis) (Hangul: 천주교 서울대교구 주교좌 명동대성당)[1] informally known as Myeongdong Cathedral is the national cathedral of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Seoul. Located in the Myeongdong neighborhood of Jung-gu, Seoul, South Korea, it is the seat of the Archbishop of Seoul Cardinal Andrew Yeom Soo-jung, the highest Roman Catholic prelate of the nation.
The original church was constructed with twenty types of locally fired red and gray bricks. The main building rises to 23m high, while the steeple, which contains a clock, rises to 45m. It was designated National Historic Site #258 on 22 November 1977.[4]
The interior of the church is ornately decorated with religious artwork. The high altar of the cathedral features of the Madonna and Child as Our Lady of the Sacred Heart. The image is flanked by a central ciborium enshrining a cross that is flanked by the Twelve apostles. A side altar is dedicated to Saint Benedict of Nursia while another side chapel features patron saint Andrew Kim Taegon and French Bishop Bum-Se-Hyeong, born as Laurent-Joseph-Marius Imbert, whom local devotees have dressed in the national costume of Korea. Stained glass windows depict the Nativity of Jesus and Adoration of the Magi, Jesus with the Twelve Apostles, and the Fifteen Mysteries of the Rosary. The windows were restored to their original condition in 1982 by artist Lee Nam-gyu.
The crypt of the cathedral lies directly beneath the main altar. The crypt contains the relics of nine Korean Church martyrs. Two of the martyrs' identities are unknown. The remaining five are Bishop Laurent-Joseph-Marius Imbert (the second Bishop of the Church in Korea), Father Maubant, Father Chastan Kim Sung-woo Antonio, and Choi Gunghwan Francesco. A special pilgrimage Holy Mass takes place every weekday morning in the Crypt Chapel.
On the 50th anniversary of the consecration of the church in 1948, a French statue of Our Lady of Lourdes bearing the title “the Immaculate Conception” was erected behind the church property. On 27 August 1960, Archbishop Paul Roh Ki-nam consecrated the grotto and dedicated it towards Korean reunification, at the time a highly controversial issue that persists on today.

Which is Myeongdong
Myeongdong literally means “Bright Town”
It’s super touristy, super famous and crowded place.
It’s near to other famous places such as Namdaemun market, City hall, and Jongno.
We had kalguksu which is chopped noodles soup, and it was so delicious !
Also went to Myeongdong Cathedral.
Not only it's a beautiful cathedral,
It also has a great meaning, because this church was a main place of pro-democracy movement in 1970s and 80s.
People usually come here for shopping, or to get some street food.
I usually prefer more quiet place with nature, but
sometimes it’s good to walk around, and feel the different vibe among so many random people.

Myeongdong Cathedral is a Catholic church in Seoul, Korea. It's a solemn place of prayer and worship. I love going to this cathedral whenever I'm in Korea.
The church is near the Myeongdong shopping streets and Myeongdong Theater. There is an mall underground the cathedral where you may find restaurants and stores.

CONCERT AT MYEONGDONG CATHEDRAL / KBS뉴스(News)

A very special concert was recently held at Myeongdong Cathedral, a modern historical relic that is also a symbol of the nation's pro-democracy movement. Next, we take you to the meaningful concert, which was held to give hope and courage to young musicians.

The deep, reverberating sound of a piano fills the 23-meter-high main hall of Myeongdong Cathedral. Instead of hymns, piano works written by Franz Schubert and Frédéric Chopin resound through the church. In an unusual move, the cathedral hosted the concert for a general audience.
[Soundbite] SUNWOO YE-KWON(PIANIST) : When Myeongdong Cathedral proposed the concert, I agreed to do it without hesitation. The other selected musicians will have more opportunities to perform.
As a symbol of the nation's pro-democracy movement since the 1970s, Myeongdong Cathedral has served as a shelter for the underprivileged and powerless. In order to give hope to today's struggling youth, the cathedral selected young musicians between the ages of 15 and 26 and hosted concerts for them. All proceeds from the concert will be used as scholarships for young musicians.
[Soundbite] IM JOO-HEE(SELECTED PIANIST) : I was really happy about the concert, since opportunities to perform are very precious for young musicians. I am honored and happy to be part of the concert. In fact, I got a bit emotional.
By hosting these concerts for talented young musicians, Myeongdong Cathedral has begun meaningful efforts to console and support today's young generation in line with the changing times.

Such a peaceful and beautiful cathedral to say your prayers and give thanks to God. There may be tourists roaming outside but most of them stay there and never go in.
Meaning you will have a peaceful and quier place to pray.

The white (plastic) flowers arrangements in front of the church for the holidays were beautiful.
*Please keep in mind that this is still a place where people come to pray and meet their God, not a museum. Keep silent and avoid using camera inside.
Even if you're not religious it's worth a visit just to experience its overall mood.
