Bike the Kettle Valley Railway / Myra Canyon in Kelowna, BC
Visiting Kelowna, BC? Step back in time and ride the rails or rather ride the railway trail. We check out a small portion of the Kettle Valley Railway (aka the KVR) steering our wheels over wooden trestles, through tunnels and past some pretty stunning scenery -- all of which explains why when you're in Kelowna, you have to Bike This!
If you don't have a bike - you can rent one in the parking lot from
***Update: Since shooting this video, a rock slide has made trestles 3 impassable. You can still access the Kettle Valley Trail from Myra Parking Lot and ride to 3 or start at Ruth Station Parking Lot and make the ride to Naramata (just a little less 'epic').

Kelowna | Myra Canyon Bike Ride | Best Wine Tasting | GoPro Hero6
We flew to Kelowna, BC, rented a car, and drove straight to Myra Canyon. We rented bikes from Myra Canyon Bike Rentals, they have a convenient mobile shop right in the parking lot. Biking 24km's on a vacation might not be for everyone but we would highly recommend going to Myra Canyon and just walk or bike a short distance on the trail to experience the trestle bridges and the unreal views.
On our second day we started off our morning with a private 10am wine tour provided by Club Wine Tours. We went to four wineries which provided a sample of 4-5 wines at each location. Needless to say we checked into the beautiful Sparkling Hill Resort and Spa at the end of our tour a tad tipsy :) . This video was filmed entirely on the GoPro Hero 6.

Myra Canyon on a Bicycle - Kelowna, British Columbia
Trail Head Ed has accomplished what everyone dreams of doing -- he loves going to work! But who wouldn't when your office is one of the most spectacular biking/hiking spots on the planet!
Ed Kruger, better known as Trail Head Ed, has turned his passion into his profession; and lucky for us! He started an outdoor tour company called Monashee Adventure Tours and this year the company turns 20! You can contact Ed anytime, winter or summer, to book a biking, hiking or snowshoeing tour through some of the world's most pristine wilderness around Kelowna and Vernon, British Columbia. But his tours offer more than just scenery. They also offer history, culture and culinary delights that will have you wishing that you had Ed's job!
Monashee Adventure Tours offers a wide variety of trips that mix wineries or breweries into a tour where at the end of the day you indulge in world-class wines or beers and delicious meals cooked by world-class chefs. They food is delectable and the various wines have won awards all around the world. If wine is not your thing than Monashee Adventure Tours also offer biking and hiking tours along the famous Kettle Valley Railway that was built way back in 1915 (the trail is now part of the Trans Canada Trail). Many of the Monashee tours go along the Myra Canyon Trestles portion of the trail, which is one of the most popular sections through the Okanagan Mountain. This section has 18 wooden trestles and two tunnels which are needed to traverse deep canyons. The views along the trail are stunning! Because of its unique history and stupendous views this section of the railway was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 2002.
Whether it's a hiking tour, a biking tour or a snowshoeing trip Trail Head Ed guarantees you'll have a fabulous time. He can provide everything you need so all you need to do is show up! It's an experience that will be the highlight of your holiday or is in itself reason alone to take a holiday!
Our day out with Ed was sensational and we were sad when it came to an end. Trail Head Ed is an encyclopedia of knowledge on the history and flora and fauna of the area, which he gladly shares with his guests. He puts a high priority on safety and fun, and though he's done every trail 1000 times his excitement at doing what he loves best is contagious. Call Ed for a tour. You' have a fantastic day!
P.S. Be sure to ask Ed to bring along his toy train whistle -- it's hilarious

The Kettle Valley Bike Trail: From Myra-Canyon to Castlegar
The Kettle Valley Bike Trail is the leg of the TCT (Trans Canada Trail) going through British Columbia. It is one of the longest railway bike trails in the world and it's most famous leg traverses Myra-Canyon using 18 trestles. From here I cycle through wilderness, ash forests and thunderstorms before I finally reach beautiful Christina Lake and Castlegar.

Myra Canyon Mountain Biking
I've landed in British Columbia for a 17 day road trip. It's going to be a mission to ride and make a video everyday!
I landed in Kelowna, picked up my van and headed for the trails. I only rode a few trails at The Crawford Trails, but the impression that I got was that they were a bit more raw than some of the other trails in Kelowna.
The Crawford Canyon DH trail descends 750 meters (2460 feet). I didn't pack any water since I came straight from the car rental place (bad idea). I turned back at the half way point to avoid shriveling up like a raisin, then I bought a Slurpee.
Here's a link to the trail:

Mountain Biking in the Okanagan, British Columbia
While the Okanagan may be best known for its wineries and orchards, there's still plenty of room for mountain bike trails to criss-cross the region in Penticton, Kelowna, Vernon, and Kamloops.
