Το Κάστρο της Μυτιλήνης, επίσης «Φρούριο της Μυτιλήνης», βρίσκεται στην Μυτιλήνη πρωτεύουσα της Λέσβου στο Βορείο Αιγαίο. Διατηρείται σε καλή κατάσταση και είναι ένα από τα μεγαλύτερα κάστρα της Μεσογείου καλύπτοντας μια έκταση 200 στρεμμάτων. Στους αρχαίους χρόνους ενδεχομένως υπήρχε στη θέση αυτή ακρόπολη, της οποίας η μορφή δεν είναι γνωστή σήμερα. Η παλαιότερη επιβεβαιωμένη φάση κατασκευής τοποθετείται στον 6ο αιώνα επί Ιουστινιανού Α´. Η σημερινή μορφή του κάστρου οφείλεται κατά κύριο λόγο στην ανοικοδόμηση του Φραγκίσκου Γατελούζου Α΄ και των διαδόχων του τα χρόνια της ηγεμονίας τους στο νησί (1355-1462) και κυρίως των Οθωμανών στη συνέχεια (1462-1912). Από την Βυζαντινή περίοδο σώζονται μόνο μια μικρή πύλη στη βόρεια πλευρά, το ανατολικό τείχος του κεντρικού περιβόλου και η δεξαμενή (κινστέρνα) στο μεσαίο κάστρο. Από την οθωμανική περίοδο σώζονται χαμάμ, τεκές, μεντρεσές (ιεροσπουδαστήριο), πυριτιδαποθήκη και στρατιωτικό νοσοκομείο/φυλακές. Το κάτω κάστρο κατασκευάστηκε επί των ημερών του σουλτάνου Ιμπραήμ Χαν το 1644 για την καλύτερη οχύρωση του βόρειου λιμένα (Επάνω Σκάλα).

Χτισμένο στην κορυφή πευκόφυτου λόφου κοντά στο λιμάνι της Μυτιλήνης.Είναι ένα από τα μεγαλύτερα κάστρα της Μεσογείου.
Το ιερό της Δήμητρας που βρίσκεται στον κεντρικό οχυρωματικό περίβολο μαρτυρεί ότι η περιοχή κατοικούνταν και στην αρχαιότητα.
Η κατασκευή του κάστρου άρχισε κατά την Βυζαντινή περίοδο (483-565 μ.Χ.), την εποχή του αυτοκράτορα Ιουστινιανού.
Στην κατασκευή του χρησιμοποιήθηκαν αρχαία δομικά υλικά από παλαιότερα κτίσματα, όπως το Αρχαίο Θέατρο της Μυτιλήνης. Η σημερινή του μορφή ολοκληρώθηκε στα χρόνια της Ηγεμονίας των Γενουατών Γατελούζων (1355-1462). Το 1384 καταστροφικός σεισμός γκρέμισε το κάστρο, το οποίο οικοδομήθηκε ξανά.
Στη συνέχεια καταλήφθηκε από τους Τούρκους το 1462. Κατά την περίοδο της Τουρκοκρατίας έγιναν προσθετικές εργασίες.
Διασώζεται το παλάτι των Γατελούζων, ένας πέτρινος πύργος με το οικόσημο των Γατελούζων και παραστάσεις Ρωμαϊκών μονομαχιών. Επίσης στην εξωτερική πύλη υπάρχει το οικόσημο των Παλαιολόγων.
Μέσα στο κάστρο επίσης σώζονται υπόγειες στοές καταφύγια για τα γυναικόπαιδα της πόλης σε περιόδους πολέμου, υδατοδεξαμενή χωρητικότητας 4.000κ.μ. Τουρκικό Ιεροδιδασκαλείο.κ.α.

Eye's Walk Digital festival Castle of Mytilene aftermovie EU IN MY REGION LESVOS
Eye's Walk Digital festival 2018 created a unique and bold experience in the Castle of Mytilene on August 26.
An expanded cultural experience in the public space that comprises Video installation Art and choreographed performance of the community of Lesvos [citizens & visitors].
Artworks are bringing up issues for the individual’s position in the modern, worldwide community, the moving person, the refugee, the immigrant.
Our edition titled Europe Started Here was supported by the Lesvos Ephorate of Antiquities and the North Aegean Region into the context of the European Program Europe in my Region.
Our production gave the audience the opportunity to visit this area of the Castle of Mytilene, an important monument of Lesvos that gradually is transforming into a place of recreation and promotion of the cultural heritage and history of Lesvos.
Eye's Walk Digital festival celebrates the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018 and operates under the auspices of the Greek Ministry of Culture and Sports.

Molyvos is a large traditional village in Lesvos. It is located on the northwest coast of the north island, 62 km northwest of Mytilene. It is a very picturesque village, north of the eponymous bay above which stands the old fortress. It has a small harbor through which the traffic is mainly fishing boats and tourist yachts.
