Norway is expensive and even taking public transport is expensive. When flying in and out of Oslo and visiting the city there are a few options to take public transport. See the process of getting to the Airport Train Station and highlights of the trip from Airport to the Downtown Oslo's Sentral Station.
A Walk Around The Oslo Central Railway Station, Oslo, Norway
Oslo Central Station, Norwegian: Oslo sentralstasjon, abbreviated Oslo S, is the main railway station in Oslo, and the largest railway station within the entire Norwegian railway system. It is the terminus of Drammen Line, Gardermoen Line, Gjøvik Line, Hoved Line and Østfold Line. It serves express, regional and local rail services by four companies. The railway station is owned by Rom Eiendom and operated by Bane NOR, and was opened in 1980.
Oslo Central was built on the site of the older Oslo East Station (Oslo Østbanestasjon, Oslo Ø), the combining of the former east and west stations being made possible by the opening of the Oslo Tunnel. Oslo Central has nineteen tracks, thirteen of which have connections through the Oslo Tunnel. The station has two buildings, the original Oslo East building and the newer main building for Oslo Central. Each building houses a large shopping centre. The square in front of the station is called Jernbanetorget.

Riding Flytoget, Express Train From Oslo Airport To Central Station, Oslo
Flytoget, the Airport Express Train is a Norwegian high-speed airport rail link connecting Oslo Airport, Gardermoen to Oslo Central Station in nineteen minutes.[5] Run by Flytoget, it operates on the high-speed Gardermoen Line using sixteen GMB Class 71 electric trains. Normal service frequency is once every ten minutes, with five of the services each hour continuing westwards beyond Oslo Central. The extended services serve nine stops within Greater Oslo and take up to 60 minutes.
Flytoget transported 5.4 million passengers in 2007, a 34-percent market share of airport ground transport.[6] The service, which has a top speed of 210 kilometres per hour (130 mph), is the only high-speed rail service in Norway. Construction started in 1994 and high-speed trains began serving Gardermoen Airport from the date of its opening on 8 October 1998, although full operation using the 14.5-kilometre-long (9.0 mi) Romerike Tunnel had to wait another ten and a half months after severe leaks caused by the tunnel's construction led to the partial depletion of two lakes.
Formed in 1992 as a subsidiary of Norwegian State Railways, the company has been owned since 2001 by the Norwegian Ministry of Trade and Industry.

Norwegian Railways NSB Class 74/75 Flirt Acceleration Oslo Gardermoen to Lillestrøm
How well do the NSB Class 74/75 electric trains perform? Enjoy this ride between Oslo Gardamoen airport (flughafen) along the Gardamoen line to towards Oslo. This service - although not as illustrious as the Gardamoen airport Express, this commuter train still performs outstandingly and is very fast.
Acceleration from Oslo sees 100mph (160km/h) reached in 1 min 54 seconds, 110mph (177km/h) in 2 mins 12 seconds, and 124mph (200km/h) in 3 mins 12 seconds.
Top speed along this journey will be 200 km/h (124mph) and the 30.9 km (19.2 miles are eaten up in just 11 mins 22 seconds at an average start-to stop speed of 163 km/h (101.4 mph). Is this the world's fastest rail journey under 30km? Quite possibly.
The NSB Type 74 trains have an installed power of 4500KW (6034 hp) and a lightweight aluminium body- giving them ultra fast acceleration.
Notes on the video:
The image and GPS data are captured by a Garmin VirB Ultra 30 action camera. At the very start of the video the camera does not have a clear view of the sky due to the station canopy. So the first 30-35 seconds of GPS speed data are inaccurate, and this also affects the reported distance data too - which appears to be 0.3 miles less than the officially declared distance data between the 2 stations.

Nestled between pristine forest and a fjord, Oslo is a compact city that is an easy jumping off place to explore all of Scandinavia. So after flying into this gem of a city, how do you get from the airport to Oslo city center? That is easy.
Oslo's main airport is located in the town of Gardermoen, located 45 kilometers north of Oslo’s city center. Traveling between Oslo’s main airport at Gardermoen and the city center is easy. The cheapest and also one of the fastest ways to get to the city center is by hopping on the local train, but there other options including the Airport Express train, bus, and of course, taxi and ride share service.

Bergensbanen | Train Oslo-Bergen

Bergensbanen on yksi maailman kuuluisista junareiteistä. Matkustin koko matkan Oslosta Bergeniin. Parhaimmat maisemat olivat hieman ennen ja jälkeen Myrdalia. Korkeimmillaan rata kävi yli 1000 metrin korkeudessa merenpinnasta. Myrdalista alkaa kuuluisi Flånin rata sekä Rollarvägen-pyöräilyreitti. Flånin rata jäi tällä matkalla näkemättä (odottaa tulevia vuosia).
Matka kestää yli 6 tuntia. Istuin junassa Tukholmasta Bergeniin lähes 14,5 tuntia. Jos joku suunnittelee matkan tekoa niin kannattaa miettiä voisiko yöpyä jossain matkan varrella, esim. Geilossa, Hönefossissa (tai Oslossa). Esim. Geilossa ja Hönefossissa on useita hotelleja. Tosin Hönefoss on aika matkan alussa. Olin vuonna 2012 toisella matkalla (matkatoimiston matka) yötä Hönefossissa ja näin paikkakunnalla useita hotelleja.
Liput ostin NSB:n nettikaupasta pari kuukautta ennen matkaa. Kannattaa myös maksaa noin 15-16 euroa enemmän jotta pääsee matkustamaan ensimmäisessä (Komfort)-luokassa. Toisin kuin Suomessa Norjassa Komfort-luokassa oli paljon matkustajia - ja muitakin kuin pukutyyppejä. Tein menomatkan Komfort-luokassa ja paluumatkan tavallisessa luokassa.
Bergenbanen liput olivat halvin osa matkaa. Norjan matka tuli muuten tosi kalliiksi - en edes ole viitsinyt miettiä kuinka paljon rahaa meni. Ihan minimibudjetilla Norjaan ei ehkä kannata matkustaa. Kalleinta oli asuminen hotelleissa. Jostain syystä en löytänyt mitään halpaa hintaa/hotellia Bergenistä toiselle yölle. Voin sanoa, että Norja on todella kallis maa ja Oslo maailman kallein kaupunki.
Seuramatka Norjaan olisi tullut kyllä halvemmaksi - mutta kukaan ei tietääkseni tee seuramatkoja juuri Bergeniin - olen ollut Norjassa neljä kertaa aikaisemmin seuramatkalla. Tämän vuoksi Bergenin matka piti tehdä omatoimimatkana. Ja halusin nimenomaan nähdä Bergenbanin.

Fastest way from Oslo Airport Gardermoen to Oslo
This video shows you the fastest path from the plane, through the airport arrival area, to the Airport Express Train terminal. It shows how to buy a discounted student ticket or a senior citizen ticket from the vending machine.
Flytoget is the fastest way to get from Oslo Airport Gardermoen (OSL) to Central Station in Oslo. The word flytoget simpy means the air train in Norwegian, and translates into airport express train.
The regular one-way ticket to or from Oslo Central Station costs 180 NOK, and there is no discount for return tickets. The simplest way to purchase a regular ticket is to swipe your credit card at the gates at the Airport Express Train terminal.
If you have one of the following, you may purchase a 50% discounted ticket from one of the vending machines:
* Proof that you are a student, 31 y/o or younger
* Proof that you are 20 y/o or younger
* Proof that you are a senior citizen
* Proof that you are 67 y/o or older
Children aged 15 y/o or younger traveling with an adult aged 18 y/o or older (any kind of ticket) travel free of charge.
Tickets are not valid for transfer to public transportation in Oslo
For each ticket sold at the ticket desk, a service fee of 20 NOK will be added (10 for discounted tickets).
