Sydney to Brisbane Train Journey on NSW TrainLink XPT Vlog
A train ride from Sydney to Brisbane on NSW TrainLink XPT
XPT is a long distance interstate train which is operated by NSW TrainLink of New South Wales from Sydney and one of these routes are connecting Sydney and Brisbane in Queensland. I used the cheapest class fare on this train, the Economy Class costs $45 (non-refundable) and the 14 hour journey takes too long for me on a train like this but Australians think that these train journeys are considered medium.

Sydney was the first city in Australia I decided to make videos in, I stayed there for over a month and tried to experience life as a local. My videos will have some tips on tourism, but mostly I cover topic related to day to day life, like safety in the city, public transportation, how to get a data sim card and so on. I shot over 30 videos including a couple in Mandarin!!
Love YouTube, but you should really also check out my web page! Lots more information, links, maps, tips and other videos that you might like, not to mention everything is neatly arranged under country categories too! If you look under Sydney you will see some of the other videos I’ve done.

Sydney Metro opens in the first half of 2019 – 13 metro stations and Australia’s first fully-automated trains.
In 2024, it will be extended from the north west, under Sydney Harbour, into the Sydney city centre and beyond to the south west – altogether, 31 metro stations and a new 66km railway.
Then comes Sydney Metro West – linking the Sydney city centre with Greater Parramatta with a new city-shaping underground railway.
This video updates the AU$20 billion-plus program of Sydney Metro works, the largest urban rail infrastructure investment in Australian history.

Let me take you to Wolli Creek in Sydney Trains. I will also show you how NSW Trains are from inside out.
Just a heads up, NSW Transport is one of the best transport systems in the world, let alone Australia.
Also, the Redfern Station in Sydney does not have lifts and that makes it difficult for people on wheelchair or people with prams.

Sydney Metro: first train arrival, September 2017
Sydney’s first metro train has arrived and is getting ready to hit the tracks and revolutionise public transport in Australia.
The six carriages of the first metro train are now at the Sydney Metro Trains Facility at Rouse Hill and being prepared for testing over the coming months.
Sydney Metro Program Director Rodd Staples inspected the first train, which is the highlight of the project for him so far.

They Sydney Metro opened for the public on the 26 May 2019. I was pretty excited because this is Australia's first fully automated rail system AND i've never been on a completely new metro before so i was keen to go see what it's all about.
On it's opening day, everyone gets to ride the sydney metro for free (otherwise $2.70 given it's a Sunday), and boy, there were so many people. Like literally swarms of people crowded at Chatswood station. I essentially did 4 trips: Epping to Chatswood (return) and Epping to Castle Hill (return).
I'd boarded the train at Epping station at around 1:08PM to get to Chatswood, with the intention of doing the full metro route to Tallawong. The train got delayed at Macquarie Uni & Macquarie Park stations, before arriving at Chatswood at 1:53PM. When i'd gotten to chatswood the crowd was way too huge. I wasn't able to get to the platform from within the station (it was all fenced off), so i decided to wait a bit before trying on the Chatswood to Tallawong train again.
Hope you enjoy my review of the Sydney Metro - interesting to see how they'd do during peak hour though.
EDIT (27 May 2019):
While there were technical glitches, the sydney metro passed it's first weekday peak pressure test and the sentiment was overall positive.
ABOUT ME:
I'm a millennial who quit my corporate job in banking & finance in December 2018 to live life the way I want, everyday. I knew something wasn’t right when days all started to blur together and nothing stood out.
I want to see different places. I want to experience new things. I want to meet new people. I want to do something for the first time again.
This is the beginning of my journey to doing that, and to figuring out how I can generate income that will allow me to live life my way, every day.

Quote from the Sydney Metro website:
Sydney Metro offers a new generation of fast, safe and reliable train services. Metro services are high-frequency, driverless trains, which can quickly take you between Tallawong Station and Chatswood Station. With frequent services you can just turn up and go. The metro stops at 13 stations along the Metro North West Line, including 8 new metro stations and 5 upgraded stations.

NSW Railways - Main North and Liverpool Range: Australian Trains
Rail action on the NSW Main Northern line along the scenic section through the upper hunter between Wingen and Ardglen before entering New England towards Werris Creek, plus a scene at Breeza on the Mungindi branch.
The climb over the Liverpool Range with 1 in 40 grades in both directions features prominently in this video. The final scene of the video highlights the daily struggle of trains over this grade as a QUBE freight with RL310, G512 and RL308 crawl towards the summit with a load of containers.
Also featured are trains from Pacific National, Whitehaven Coal and Countrylink with 81, 82 and WH class locomotives plus Xplorer railcars on the Northern Tablelands service.

S1•E12: Sydney to Melbourne Train via NSW Trainlink | A Classroom with a View
Sadly, it's time to leave Sydney. Onwards to Melbourne!
On my last full day in Sydney, I went on my longest morning run, first through Darling Harbour to Barangaroo Reserve. Then I decided to follow the route I took the day before on Australia Day and ran to Circular Quay and the Sydney Opera House. I ran through part of the Royal Botanic Gardens before I ended the run.
Exiting the Royal Botanic Gardens, I checked out the Shakespeare Memorial, where there was a statue Shakespeare, along with characters from his work including Romeo and Juliet. Through Hyde Park, I noticed these interesting looking flowers that reminded me of peppermint candies. I ended my morning with breakfast from the Fujiya japanese bakery.
That afternoon, I went to the State Library of New South Wales to get some fast Wi-Fi so I could back up my photos and videos from my phone as I contemplated how to manage my files and avoid running out of storage space on my devices, which was already imminent at the one-third mark of my trip. That evening, I went to a cheap sushi restaurant across the street from the hostel for dinner and got boba tea as well.
The next day, I checked out of the hostel and took a direct train from Central Station in Sydney to the Southern Cross station in Melbourne. Since the ride took eleven hours, I occupied my time by documenting every stop in between as well as taking a few time-lapse videos.
I finally arrived in Melbourne, checked in to my new hostel room, and watched my fellow hostel patrons in the common area watch the Australian Open, which was happening in Melbourne at the time.

Q: How far is Melbourne from Sydney?
A: It's more than 800 km or 500 miles long. Via a direct NSW Trainlink train, it takes just under 11 hours. Flying takes much faster, but there are baggage limits and the experience is never as comfortable and free as riding the train.

Australia: NSW TrainLink & Sydney Trains at Homebush
NSW TrainLink & Sydney Trains services through Homebush station on the Western Line. At Homebush, the line expands to 6 tracks on the route to Sydney Central, making for some interesting movements to ensure trains are on the correct tracks.
Homebush is also the terminating station for all stops services from the city.
NSW Double Colour Light Signalling - Explained!
This video attempts to explain double colour light signalling, as used in Sydney and Newcastle, in the Australian state of New South Wales. This signalling system is designed to provide substantial advanced notice of a red signal ahead, with at minimum of two (and as many as four or more) previous signals warning of the 'Stop' ahead. This is very important in the suburbs of Sydney, where long and heavy interstate goods trains share trackage with frequently stopping suburban trains. The close signal spacing means that a single warning signal would not provide enough stopping distance for many goods trains. This video only covers the aspects displayed by the main lights, I have not attempted to cover route indicators or other signs.
The main image used in this video was taken at Clyde, and features a Pacific National coal train lead by 8255 and three classmates. I have digitally altered this signal to show all the aspects for demonstration purposes - I doubt this particular signal would actually be able to show all those aspects (certainly not Low Speed). The other three photos in order of appearance are at Croydon, St James, and Summer Hill.
**Please note that this video is in no way official information - It is for hobby purposes only. While I have gone to extensive effort to make sure the information is correct, I am not a railway employee and have put this together from reading and observation.**
You can watch a similar video I made about signalling in Victoria here:
You can read an official document about this type of signalling here:
