Pacific Northwest Travel Guide - Oregon Coast - YouTube
Even in the summer the Pacific Northwest Coast of Oregon can be on the cooler side, but it just doesn't matter. Watch the fog roll in, clouds and surf and realize that this is one of the most beautiful places to visit.

Grant's Getaways: Surf Fishing and Clamming
It's spring on the Oregon Coast and adventure waits at every turn; when the tide goes out the dinner table is set for thousands who gather to dig razor clams at Gearhart Beach in Oregon's Clatsop County.
The best time to go is a couple of hours before the low tide -- and the lower the tide the better, so check an Oregon tide table for the best dates and times. If you come, keep this in mind: when the clam tide ebbs and turns to flood there's another fishing sport that takes over on the beach, and it's worth checking out too.
Brad Fresh is a longtime surf angler and he wears neoprene waders to keep out the bone chilling cold water -- plus, he always wears an inflatable life vest too. It's not that I'm a bad swimmer, I'm actually pretty good, but if I fill these waders up with water -- well, I wouldn't stand much of a chance. The water is so cold.
Fresh, his partner Chong Chang and their friend Jim Milanowski are dedicated surf fishermen who like to prospect along the beaches. They cast, then move and then cast some more, again and again until they find eager biters among the ever-moving schools of pink fin perch.
Grant's Getaways: New Clam Maps
Just because the calendar has moved to winter doesn’t mean you have to give up outdoor adventure that pays off with supper from the sea! In fact, when the minus low tides shift to night time hours, I simply adjust my tactics and techniques with warmer clothing and a headlamp or lantern to dig or rake cockles, quahogs or steamers!
Each year, minus low tides invite thousands to the Coast – they wear boots and carry shovels and rakes and buckets. They come to play in estuaries stretching from Coos Bay to Tillamook and dig their supper from the sea and harvest Oregon’s varied bay clam species.

Central Oregon: Our Adventure on a House Boat
This adventures takes us to Lake Billy Chinook in central Oregon. Our first time on a house boat was interesting but a blast. The real lesson here is that if your kids are anything like mine they love to get out in the water. Ours loved to swim, even though the water was take your breath away cold, and ride the jet skis around. This was a 4 day and 3 night trip that I'm sure they will talk about for years to come.
(NEW) New Findings about North Pacific Great White Sharks
(NEW updated video - slides with motion) The Natural Laboratory, a podcast exploring science for Bay Area National Parks, interviews Scot Anderson, a local researcher who has studied Great White Sharks in the Point Reyes region and the Farallons for more than two decades. Anderson described his recent findings about the sharks, including how they follow a strict migration path between the West Coast of the United States and the Hawaii region. He and his colleagues with Stanfords Tagging of Pacific Predators Program also found that the sharks off the North Pacific are genetically isolated, meaning they dont mate with other Great Whites throughout the world. Anderson further describes the incredible details of how to tag a Great White Shark - the slideshow includes some fantastic Great White Shark images.

CO-OR Motorcycle Loop Finale - Days 9-11 - Yachats - Twisties - Hill AFB Museum
The final Days (9-11) of my 3200 loop. Just east, from the Pacific Coast, finds me in the early morning (7am) twisties of the Siuslaw valley. Climbing out of the valley, over the Cascade Range offered me a view of Mt. Washington. Once I was past Bend, OR and the desert of OR, the Malheur canyon gave me a welcome of eye candy. I overnight-ed in Idaho, just across the border from Ontario, OR. The next day was basically super slab with a walk around (and in) the Hill Air Force Base Museum. Hill AFB base, just outside of Salt Lake City, is still active.
I filmed a few more miles, east of Salt Lake City before ending this, the final chapter.
From there, I rested in Roosevelt, UT then home to Golden.
I hope you all enjoyed all 7 chapters (11 days) of this journey.
