Amra Palace Hotel Petra Jordan
I really struggled to choose a hotel in Wadi Musa for my visit to Petra and was fortunate enough to stumble upon this place. I really can't recommend it highly enough. The family who run the hotel are unbelievably helpful and the hotel itself is incredible value. A big bonus is the pool and Turkish Bath, a reinvigorating experience at the end of a hard days hiking around Petra.

Bosra, Syria
Video with images of of Bosra an ancient city of the Nabatean kingdom. During the Roman era it was a prosperous provincial capital.The city flourished and became a major metropolis at the juncture of several trade routes. Many of the remaining monuments date from this period.
The Roman palestra was part of a bath complex situated near a southern arch called Gate of the Lantern. The monument was erected in the third century AD in memory of the Third Legion which was garrisoned here. A cobbled road leads eastward from the city gate to the bath complex. Opposite the complex was a nympheum at a junction of roads. Four enormous Corinthian columns are the only remains of the nymphaeum. On the other side of the street heading north is another column and lintel incorporated into a modern house. These are the remains of a pagan sanctuary or kalybe from the third century AD. Further up on the northern colonnaded road is a paved forum with shops and stores.
At the east side of the city was a Nabatean gate from the first century AD. The ruins behind the gate were part of a Roman temple. Nearby was a palace of the Roman governor. The building had two stories and was built around a large square.
The Roman theatre at the southern edge of the city was built in the second century AD. Unlike many other theatres it was not built into the side of a hill, but completely freestanding. The stage was backed by rows of Corinthian columns. It is estimated that the theatre would have seated fifteen thousand people. In later periods the theatre was encorporated in a citadel which encircled the theatre with thick walls like a protective jacket. It explains why the theatre was one of the best preserved monuments of the Roman period.
3 Dutch girls (converts to islam) visit Jordan with their mothers - subtitled (cc)
Film about restoring the mother-daughter bond between three Dutch mothers and their daughters who converted to islam. To some degree mothers and daughters felt estranged from one another and during a holiday in Jordan they work on rebuilding the relationship and understanding the faith.
This program for Dutch tv was originally titled Van hagelslag tot halal, meaning 'from chocolate sprinkles to halal'. The wordplay might go amiss for English speakers, so I'll explain. Chocolate sprinkles are typically Dutch, so the original title could be losely translated as from typically Dutch to muslim.

SUMMARY
=======
Aqaba (English: ; Arabic: العقبة /æl ˈʕæqaba/) is the only coastal city in Jordan and the largest and most populous city on the Gulf of Aqaba. Situated in southernmost Jordan, Aqaba is the administrative centre of the Aqaba Governorate. The city had a population of 148,398 in 2015 and a land area of 375 square kilometres (144.8 sq mi). Today, Aqaba plays a major role in the development of the Jordanian economy, through the vibrant trade and tourism sectors. The Port of Aqaba also serves other countries in the region.Aqaba's strategic location at the northeastern tip of the Red Sea between the continents of Asia and Africa, has made its port important over the course of thousands of years.The ancient city was called Elath, adopted in Latin as Aela and in Arabic as Ayla.
Its strategic location and proximity to copper mines, made it a regional hub for copper production and trade in the Chalcolithic period.
Aela became a bishopric under Byzantine rule and later became a Latin Catholic titular see after Islamic conquest around AD 650, when it became known as Ayla; the name Aqaba is late medieval. The Great Arab Revolt's Battle of Aqaba, depicted in the film Lawrence of Arabia, resulted in victory for Arab forces over the Ottoman defenders.Aqaba's location next to Wadi Rum and Petra has placed it in Jordan's golden triangle of tourism, which strengthened the city's location on the world map and made it one of the major tourist attractions in Jordan. The city is administered by the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, which has turned Aqaba into a low-tax, duty-free city, attracting several mega projects like Ayla Oasis, Saraya Aqaba, Marsa Zayed and expansion of the Port of Aqaba. They are expected to turn the city into a major tourism hub in the region. However, industrial and commercial activities remain important, due to the strategic location of the city as the country's only seaport.
