Tallest Waterfall in Japan — Nachi Falls!

We travel to the tallest waterfall in Japan which is Nachi Falls. Not only do we see this 133 meter tall single drop waterfalls with the iconic red pagoda, but we also visit nearby Kumanonachi Taisha, a Shinto shrine and Seigantoji, a Buddhist temple.

Located in Nachikatsuura as part of the Wakayama Prefecture, Nachi Falls is the tallest single uninterrupted drop waterfall in Japan. The tallest waterfalls with multiple drops in Japan is Hannoki Falls at a height of 497 meters.

Japan's tallest waterfall, Nachi Waterfall is in a beautiful sacred forest. It was stunning. It was one of the best natural sites I have ever seen in Japan. There weren't many places to sit and enjoy the falls, however, which was a disappointment.

On the same day, we also visited the Wakayama coast, which is the south-eastern tip of Honshu, the main island of Japan. There was also a lighthouse which was really cool.

Japan Travel: One of the Kuman Sanzan…Nachi Taisha, Wakayama 18

Kumano Nachi Taisha is one of the three Kumano shrines, along the pilgrim trail of Kumano Kodo in Wakayama Prefecture. The shrine is located a few kilometers inland from the coastal hot spring resort of Katsuura. The shrine is part of a large complex of neighboring religious sites which should the Buddhist and Shinto influences in the Kumano region. Kumano Nachi Taisha has the tallest waterfall in Japan (Nachi no Otaki).

Kumano Nachi Taisha is located halfway up Nachi Mountain. It religious origin goes back to the ancient nature worship of Nachi-no-Otaki. The shrine is one of the three shrines in the Kumano Sanzan and is an important destination on the Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage Trails.

Nachi-no Otaki is 133 meter high and 13 meters wide. This waterfall is the tallest waterfall in Japan. The water source for this taki (waterfall) is from the surrounding evergreen primeval forest. This forest is the sanctuary of Kumano Nachi Taisha. In the past, this forest was used for training by the mountain monks and has been a protected area since ancient times.

Visitors who are in Wakayama in July are advised to attend the Fire Festival or Nachi no Hi Matsuri Kumano Nachi Shrine hosts. Men dressed in white carry fires from oversized torches to purify a 6 meter tall portable shrine The 6 meter tall shrine symbolize the waterfall.

Japanese people really appreciate the seasons. The gardens are designed to highlight a particular time of year, with spring gardens covered in cherry blossoms every spring and autumn gardens displaying beautiful reds, oranges and yellows in the autumn. Big crowds gather to enjoy nature's beauty, with picnics and photo opportunities for everyone.

In this video I enjoy a peaceful autumn walk in the garden of Wakayama Castle, Japan, during the middle of a work day to avoid the crowds :)

Area Kumano (熊野), di kenal luas karena areanya yang bernuansa agamis, letaknya berlokasi di bagian ujung selatan dari semenanjung Kii yang terletak sekitar 100km selatan Osaka. Jarak dari wakayama ke Perefektur Mie; bagaimanapun nbanyak dari situs agama dan merupakan daya tarik wisata yang terletak di prefekturwakayama.
Kumano sanzan: Hongu Taisha, Nachi Taisha dan Hayatama Taisha, merupakan pusat dari area ini. peziarah telah berjalan ke kumano sanzan memanfaatkan jalur peziarah tradisional, yang disebut Kumano kodo untuk lebih dari 100 tahun, meskipun bagian jalur ini cukup berbahaya, sangat dipercayai apabila pergi ke kuil dengan rute tradisional ini merupakan salah satu proses penting. Selanjutnya pada tahun 2004 Kumano Kodo di rancang sebagai situs warisan bersejarah dari Unesco. Dengan nama : “Situs suci dan rute peziarah di area gunung kii,” rancangan ini memasukkan Koyasan, Yoshino dan Omenisan kedalam penghargaan ini.
Areanya di berkahi dengan keagamaan dan sejarah berharga dari tiga kuil suci. Dewa matahari Shinto, cucu Jimmu mendatangi Kumano untuk menyatukan kota-kota di jepang sebagai kaisar pertama. Dengan tambahan, kumano harus menjadi “wilayah orang mati”, seperti yang dipercayai shinto arwah dan keluarga leluhur berkumpul di sini setelah mereka meninggal.
Kota kecil dan kota besar menitik sepenanjung garis pantai Kii, di kombinasikan dengan sejarah kuno dengan persembahan sehari-hari. kota seperti Shirahama atau Katsura menawarkan pengunjung untuk mandi air hangat dari sumber mata air panas.
