Chikubushima and Nagahama - Shiga, Japan 2.1 - 6.13.16
This is my first video from my second trip to Shiga, Japan.
Some of my friends and I went to the Northeast side of Lake Biwa to visit Chikubu island (Chikubushima) and the City of Nagahama. Chikubushima is the second largest island in Lake Biwa and is home to many historical temples (the oldest is about 1,300 years old).
After we rode the Biwako-Kisen boat back to Nagahama, we visited the Kurokabe glass factory in Kurokabe square and got to create our own designs to sandblast onto glass. We also visited the Kaiyodo figure museum.

It is said that The Nagahama Hikiyama Matusuri (festival) of Nagahama-city, Shiga began when Nagahama Hachiman shrine was founded in 1069 when Hideyoshi Toyotomi ruled Nagahama. Four a year Hikiyama( A decoration float) dedicate a children's Kabuki play in turn as a Hikiyama(A decoration float) on a turn on every April 15.

HIKIYAMA FESTIVAL in Nagahama Shiga [002]
I saw the hikiyama festival at Shiga Nagahama.
This was registered as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage this year.
It is approximately one hour by JR from Kyoto station to Nagahama station.

Shiga is a Japanese prefecture to the east of Kyoto, on the island of Honshu. It contains the enormous freshwater Lake Biwa, whose shoreline is home to the regional capital, Otsu, the cities of Hikone, Sakamoto and Nagahama, beaches and holiday resorts. To the northeast, 4,000-meter Mount Ibuki can be climbed for far-reaching views over the water.

On the other hand, it is a place where the townscape which has developed independently as the Omi merchant birthplace is left. You can enjoy the scenery of “Hachimanbori Canal”, which is a place of rich nature and the place of people’s life, with a rowing boat or an engine boat.
