This Nagardhan fort is situated in Nagpur district of Maharashtra state of India . This fort is in Vakatak, which has an ancient history. From Ramtek , about 7 km north east. This place is situated at the distance. This place was known as 'Nandivardhana' in the 4th century AD. It is a misconception that Nandhana is situated on the west side of Nagarjan village. There is a temple of Ganesh in the middle of this entrance . Umlatti Kamal Pushpe is the symbol of Yadavas on both sides of the entrance. On the left side there is a darrupal craft. It is a rectangular particle. There is a bay inside here. It should be from the time of the King of Gond. Here there is a stairwell of stairs.

Pauni, in Bhandara district, is 82kms south-east of Nagpur. The present town, about three kms south-west of the Wainganga River, is engirdled by medieval fortifications embellished by imposing gateways, of which those situate to the west are almost intact. The majestic fortifications, which at some places are extant to a height of about 20 metres, were encircled by a moat of about 20 metres in width. The ancient moat has now turned into a small seasonal lake and is called Balasamudra. The fort was constructed by the Gond ruler Bakht Buland in the early 18th century and was taken over by Raghuji Bhosale I around 1710 AD.
Pauni, an ancient place, has yielded the relics of one of the greatest Stupas of India and definite evidence of a flourishing Buddhist establishment. The Pauni rampart has yielded the copper plate grant of Pravarasena II of the Vakatakas who ruled over this region. So it is possible that the clay of the rampart goes back to a period much earlier than the medieval.Nagardhan, ancient Nandivardhan, the first capital of the Vakatakas, is 34 kms northeast of Nagpur and about 5kms south of Ramtek, famous for its fortified hill temple.
The present Nagardhan fort (land fort) was probably built by Raghuji Bhosale I around 1740 AD, must have served the purpose of guarding the eastern approaches to Nagpur. Square in shape, it has an outer rampart with bastions and had an inner wall surrounding the buildings. The main gate, still in good condition, is on the north-west side. In the fort there is a temple below the ground level and the idol is placed on a ledge of a well like structure.
Not far away from the present for there is a place where big sized bricks of ancient periods are often discovered. This is said to be a site of the capital-cum fort of the Vakatakas.

Previously known as Nandivardhan, Nagardhan served as the first capital of the Vakataka Kings. The present fort and township of Nagardhan most likely developed by Raghuji Bhosale I in 1740 AD approx. protected Nagpur from the eastern assaults. Square in its outline, the fort of Nagardhan is enclosed by an outer rampart which is towered with bastions. The outer fortification is escorted by an inner barricade that surrounds the main fort and the interior buildings as a means of an additional protection. The main gate of the citadel facing towards north-west is still in pretty good condition. Besides, a temple is put up below the ground level where an idol of Goddess Durga is enshrined on a protuberance of a well like construction.

नगरधन हा 'भुईकोट' प्रकारातील एक किल्ला आहे. भारतातील महाराष्ट्र राज्याच्या नागपूर जिल्ह्यात असलेला हा किल्ला आहे. वाकाटककालीन असलेल्या या किल्ल्यास जुना इतिहास आहे.रामटेकपासून वायव्येस सुमारे ७ कि.मी. अंतरावर हा किल्ला आहे.इ.सनाच्या ४थ्या शतकात ही जागा 'नंदीवर्धन' म्हणुन ओळखल्या जात होती.नगरधन हा त्याचा अपभ्रंश आहे.नगरधन गावाच्या पश्चिमेस या किल्ल्याचे प्रवेशद्वार आहे.या प्रवेशद्वाराचे वर मध्यभागी गणेशाचे शिल्प आहे. उमलती कमलपुष्पे हे यादवांचे चिन्ह प्रवेशाच्या दोन्ही बाजुस आहे.डाव्या बाजुस एक द्वारपालाचे शिल्प आहे.आत एक आयताकृती कष आहे. येथे आत एक भुईकोट आहे. तो गोंड राजाचे वेळचा असावा.येथे एक पायऱ्याची विहिर आहे.

विदर्भातील रामटेक हे धार्मिक स्थळ म्हणून प्राचीन काळापासून प्रसिद्ध आहे. महाराष्ट्रातील भाविकांबरोबर इतर राज्यांमधूनही अनेक भाविकांचा ओघ रामटेकला असतो. रामटेक पासून सहा-सात किलोमिटर अंतरावर एक बलदंड भुईकोट किल्ला आहे. हा किल्ला म्हणजे नगरधनचा किल्ला होय.

रामटेकच्या प्रसिद्ध अशा धार्मिक व पर्यटन स्थळाच्या जवळ असूनही नगरधनचा किल्ला मात्र अनेकांना अपरिचित आहे. रामटेकच्या डोंगरावरुन नगरधनचा किल्ला ओळखू येतो.

नगरधनचा किल्ला रामटेक तालुक्यात असून नागपूर जिल्ह्यामध्ये आहे. नागपूर ते जबलपूर असा राष्ट्रीय महामार्ग आहे. हा महामार्ग क्र. ७ आहे. या महामार्गावर मनसर हे गाव आहे. या मनसर गावातून पश्चिमेकडे रामटेककडे जाण्यासाठी किंवा तुमसर (जि. भंडारा) कडे जाण्यासाठी रस्ता फुटतो. या रस्त्याने रामटेक गाठल्यावर तेथून सहा-सात किलोमिटर दक्षिणेकडे नगरधन गाव गाहे.

नगरधन गावाच्या बाहेर (गाव ओलांडल्यावर) नगरधनचा किल्ला आहे. नागपूरपासून वाहनाने दिडतासात आपण नगरधन पर्यंत पोहोचू शकतो. नगरधन हे पूर्वी 'नंदीवर्धन' या नावाने परिचित होते असे काही संशोधकांचे मत आहे.

नगरधनचा भुईकोट हा प्रथमदर्शनी आपल्याला मोहवून टाकतो. नगरधन किल्ल्याने कात टाकून नवे रुप धारण केलेले आहे. याची तटबंदी व आतील भाग नव्याने दुरुस्त केलेला आहे. लालसर पण काळ्यारंगाची झाक असलेल्या चिर्‍यांनी किल्ल्याची तटबंदी व दरवाजा बांधून काढल्यामुळे त्याचे सौंदर्य कैकपटींनी वाढलेले आहे.

नगरधनच्या भव्य दरवाजावर काही शिल्पे अंलकृत केलेली आहेत. शिरोभागी गणेशाची प्रतिमा आहे. दोन्ही बाजूंना चषक कोरलेले आहेत. दाराच्या बाजूला द्वारपाल कोरलेले असून त्यांच्या खांद्यावर कबुतर दाखवले आहे. पुर्वी निरोपानिरोपी करण्यासाठी कबुतरांचा वापर करीत असत. दाराच्या आत पहारेकर्‍यांच्या देवड्या आहेत. पुर्वी आत येणार्‍यांची चौकशी व झाडाझडती येथेच घेतली जायची.

दारातून आत शिरल्यावर तटबंदीवर जाण्यासाठी पायऱ्यांचा मार्ग केलेला आहे. तटबंदीवर चढल्यावर आपण तटबंदीवरुन फेरी मारु शकतो. या रुंद तटबंदीवर निरीक्षणासाठी मनोरे केलेले आहेत. येथून रामटेक किल्ल्याचे दर्शन उत्तम होते. किल्ल्याच्या आत वाड्याचे तसेच इतर निवासस्थानांचे अवशेष आहेत. किल्ल्यामध्ये तीन मजली खोल विहीर आहे. या मजल्यावर कमानीयुक्त खोल्या असून पायऱ्या उतरुन तिथपर्यंत पोहोचता येते. किल्ल्यामध्ये मंदिर, तसेच काही ठिकाणी प्राचीन अवशेषही पहायला मिळतात.

नगरधनचा किल्ला हा वाकाटक कालीन असल्याचे मानले जाते. म्हणजे साधारण चवथ्या शतकातील किल्ला असावा. जुन्या आणि नव्याचा संगम असलेला नगरधनचा भुईकोट.

This is the first video in Nagpur series. It is about Nagardhan fort which was built by Raghuji Bhonsle in 1740 (approx). It is located around 40kms from Nagpur. The place has lost its historical importance as the government has renovated the fort, painted the walls of fort and it has been declared as the capital of Vakatas. It is one of the main excavation site so recording a video is not allowed.
