Japan Road Trip: Nagasaki to Kumamoto (Episode 15.2)
Day 2 - From Nagasaki drive to Kumamoto -100km / 3 hours drive. We also ride ferry cross the sea to Kumamoto. We arrived in the afternoon and head straight to Kumamoto Castle. Castle was damaged last year due to earthquake, but still great sightseeing and shops around.
Tonight, we will be staying at Dormy Inn Kumamoto (天然温泉六花の湯ドーミーイン熊本). After checked in we go Shimotori Shotengai, Kumamoto (下通町商店街) and PARCO (熊本百貨大樓) for dinner and shipping.
Huis Ten Bosch Japan (Nagasaki)
Are you visiting a theme park in Japan? It must be anime-themed. Here's something new to offer! It is not the typical anime themed park. Huis Ten Bosch is a theme park located at Nagasaki Prefecture which recreates a Dutch town. The name of this park honours the one of the residences of the Dutch Royal Family. You would feel the European vibe when you enter this park. Its details and architecture bring you to the streets of Netherlands presenting the picturesque canals, iconic windmills, and beautiful gardens.
The gardens take up the majority of the area. The colors of the flowers complement its location. It attracts a lot of visitors to come and relax themselves with the view and good ambiance. In addition, seasonal flowers further enhance the attractiveness of the scenery. There are also restaurants around the area where you can enjoy your breakfast or lunch while indulging in the scenic sight. Inside the theme park, there is also a hotel where you could stay for your visit in Japan. Of course, this place also reminds you of the place; this is where they hold occasional classical concert. The two hotels are named Hotel Europe and Hotel Amsterdam. As a package, people who stay in the hotel get huge dicounts for their tickets at the theme park zone. There is also an option to relax in a boat travel around the canals surrounding the resort. If you visit the park during spring, you will catch the tulip festival; or if not, you might get to witness the fireworks competition during the summer.
In the resort, there is a part where you need to pay a fee to enter. Inside the area where there is paid admission, a lot more attractions are offered. The 3D theatres are featured in the Theme Park Zone. Aside from Old Dutch town architecture, there is also a Michael Jackson museum, haunted house, mirror maze, Ferris wheel and a replica of the Domtoren of Utrecht. But don't you fret; the Free Zone also has exciting things to offer. It also has a theatre, a boat ride, and a replica of the Palace Huis Ten Bosch, which houses an art museum.
If it's your first time around the area, here are some directions and landmarks to get you here. From Fokuokam, Huis Ten Bosch Station and Hakata Station are connected by hourly JR limited express trains which cost you around 3800 yen. From Nagasaki, it is relatively nearer, there is a train connected by the JR Seaside Liner which takes around an hour and 15 minutes and cost 1430 yen. From Nagasaki Airport, it makes the fastest route it only take 50 minutes via high speed boat service costing 1700 yen.
