Saikai Nagasaki Biopark- Sasebo, Japan: Season 2 Episode 2
A Continuing Journey's Nicole travels to Sasebo, Japan to visit a highly toured zoo called the Saikai Nagasaki Biopark located about 15 miles from Sasebo, Japan.
In Nagasaki Bio Park, animals live in environments that are as close to their natural habitats as possible. Instead of putting animals in the cage that prevents them from escaping, Nagasaki Bio Park has created environments that are comfortable to animals and allows visitors to interact with them.
As you tour the park, you will meet with various kinds of animals. Also, throughout the park, there are places where you can pet and hand-feed animals including lemurs, squirrel monkeys and capybaras. Especially exciting is hand-feeding large animals such as rhinos and hippos. It's an experience you cannot expect in every day life.

A Dream Comes True at Nagasaki Bio Park 長崎バイオパークで最も愛されたカピバラ
Choco was the most loved capybara at Nagasaki Bio Park. He often slept on visitors' laps. The look of joy and delight on the faces of visitors when Choco slept on their lap was heartwarming to see. Choco has been sent away from Nagasaki Bio Park to China. It is heartbreaking to think of him suffering in a Chinese zoo. Not so long ago Chinese visitors stoned a kangaroo to death in a zoo in China because she was sleeping and they wanted her to move around and entertain them! So many people from all over the world and from Japan are very upset and angry that Choco and 9 other capybaras have been sent away to China. Nagasaki Bio Park refuses to give any information which Japanese capybara fans feel is very disrespectful to them.

Bio Park in Saikai, Japan
One of the coolest places I've been in Japan. And before you get all yappy about zoos mistreating animals and all that jazz, yea I kinda agree, I don't think huge animals should be in zoos, for example here the Giraffe, Zebras, and Hippos. And I don't really agree with some of the kids teasing the animals a bit with food, but that's rectified with parents.
Now back to the bacon. It costs about ¥1700 for adults, well worth it. I had no idea going in you could get so close to the animals and pet most of them. and besides animals they had a ton of flowers and plants from all over the world too! The inner conservationist inside me was screaming invasive species playground. I had a blast! Hung out with Roos, got some Kookaburras to chatter, pet some odd animals, got up close and personal with butterfly eating rituals. National Geographic eat your heart out! One of the girls in our group was even interviewed by Japanese TV!
Sorry for the short cuts, was on the phone and it was killing me on space and battery life...There were plenty other animals, but they were either sleeping or my battery had already died...

Nagasaki Bio Park -長崎バイオパーク
Hey everyone, please enjoy Nagasaki Bio Park! This zoo is hands-on and many of the animals can be fed by yourself! You will be pleasantly surprised about the actual amount of animals that are walking around and not caged in.
Next to the Zoo is also Pet Animal World, where you are able to be surrounded by many more animals that are walking around freely!

Welcome to Sasebo, my home in Japan!
What is the PinoyInJapan series?
Japan has always been among the top destinations in the world. But it is more than just Tokyo, Osaka, ramen and cherry blossoms. Join me as I take you to some of the places and show you some of the things I experience as an ordinary Filipino working and living here. With just my phone camera and my curiosity, let's take a peek at living in the Land of the Rising Sun. Nothing fancy. Simply Emman INside Japan.
In this episode: Let me introduce you to my home in Japan, Sasebato City. Sasebo is located in Nagasaki, a prefecture south of mainland Japan, just 1 hour and 45 minutes away from Fukuoka International Airport. This historic melting pot of cultures has a balance of city and countryside. Let's have a first look.

Nagasaki Bio Park
Nagasaki Bio Park is roughly a 30 minute drive from Hario Village and a 50 minute drive from Main Base. Bio Park is a location where you can get close up to some exotic animals. The admission for one day is 2,000 yen and a year pass is 4,000 yen. The encounters with these animals is included with park admission, but feeding them cost extra between 1 to 2 yen (you need to have 1 yen coins to get the food). Animals you encounter is monkeys, kangaroos, capybara, owls, mice, turtles, and bunnies. You can also feed giraffes and hippos. This is a family friendly park and also stroller friendly. I recommend to bring a camera to take pictures with these amazing animals up close.
