There are many landmarks in Nagasaki to remind locals and visitors about August 9, 1945 when the A-Bomb was dropped. Nagasaki Peace Park is one of those place and the hypocenter of the blast.
The explosion crushed, burned and killed everything in sight. The hypocenter remains as an international peace park and symbol of aspirations for world harmony.

Nagasaki Peace Park | Atomic Bomb Museum | Japan
Nagasaki is a Japanese city on the northwest coast of the island of Kyushu. It’s set on a large natural harbor, with buildings on the terraces of surrounding hills. It is synonymous with a key moment during World War II, after suffering an Allied nuclear attack in August 1945. The event is memorialized at the city’s Atomic Bomb Museum and Peace Park.

NAGASAKI - Bomb Hypocenter and Peace Park
In 1968, a memorial monolith was built in the hypocenter park to mark ground zero of the atomic explosion.
A layer of the ground at that time is exhibited at the site, where visitors can see the remains of destroyed houses: roof tiles, bricks, ceramic and pieces of glass that boiled in the 3000℃ atomic heat.
Near the hypocenter of the explosion, remnants of a concrete wall of Urakami Cathedral can still be seen. Urakami Cathedral was the grandest church in east Asia at the time.
At the Peace park's north end is the 10-meter-tall Peace Statue created by sculptor Seibo Kitamura . The statue's right hand points to the threat of nuclear weapons while the extended left hand symbolizes eternal peace.

On April 28th 2017, I had the chance to visit Nagasaki Peace Park! This is where the atomic bomb was dropped in World War 2. Instead of leaving the area in the damaged state, they rebuilt it and created a park to promote peace!

A monument is currently erected at the hypocenter of the atomic blast on August 9th 1945. You can view ground that was irradiated and the remains of the destroyed Urakami Cathedral in their original state from that day. The park is a favorite place in spring to relax as 500 cherry trees blossom.

Along with photographs showing Nagasaki before and after the bombing, there are displays relating stories regarding the bombing including materials that had actually been irradiated, the history behind the development of nuclear weapons, and wishes for peace.

Here is a quick video on the Nagasaki Peace Park here in Nagasaki Japan. It is a very quiet and peaceful park to honor those of the atomic bomb. Statues can be seen throughout the park as well as stones with information that can be read in both English and Japanese. There is also a place you can go to light a candle.

A brief look at the Nagasaki Peace Park, commemorating the A-Bombing of 1945. It was established in 1955.
Nagasaki Peace Park or Heiwa Koen is one of the biggest tourist attractions in Nagasaki, and well worth a visit. While not exactly fun, it is quite sobering and educational, and something every responsible person in the world should learn about. That said, there is also far more to Nagasaki than just the A-Bombing, so be sure to sample Nagasaki's wide variety of history, culture and food. It is one of the most unique places in Japan.
