We start around Kuwanoyama at Road 77 and going through Okuizumi, Kawanehon, Haibara District finally we stop at the Nagashima Dam.

ABT system (Rack & Pinion) train is connected to Diesel locomotive train just for braking on a steep downhill track to ABT Ichishiro Station. The ABT train is driven by electricity. There is external power supply for the train only between Nagashima Dam station and ABT Ichishiro station.

The left end car is the electric train incorporating pinion engaged with rack between two rails on the ground. This Rack & Pinion ABT system train works only between ABT Ichishiro Station and Nagashima Dam Station. This is a very steep uphill.
左端の車両がピニオンを有するアプト式電車です。ピニオンは線路中間に位置するラックに噛みあっています。アプト式電車が走るのはアプト市代駅と長島ダム駅の間だけです。かなりの急勾配です。
El coche de extremo izquierdo es del sistema ABT que tracciona con Piñón y Cremallera. Este coche eléctrico funciona solamente entre la estación ABT Ichishiro y estación Nagashima Dam. Es una subida muy fuerte.

大井川鐵道井川線小火車將離開長島壩車站。
오이가와 철도 이카와 선 열차는 나가시마댐 역에서 출발합니다.
Oigawa Railway Ikawa Line, Oku-Oi-Kojo station
Oigawa Railway's Ikawa line was constructed in 1935 as a private railway for the development of hydraulic power sources in Oigawa basin. Once dam constructions were completed, original Ikawa line's track went down under the water surface level of the dams, so it was re-routed up to above them.
Now, Ikawa line is the steepest railway in Japan. The grade between Abt-Ichishiro and Nagashima-dam stations is over 9%.
The trains are boosted by electric locomotives with Abt rack rail for climbing this section.
Also, Sekinosawa viaduct is the highest railway viaduct in Japan which height is 70.8m above Sekinosawa river.
Oku-Oi-Kojo station is very unique, because it is located above middle of Nagashima dam, It's like floating on the lake.
