► Nawate Dori is a nice little, old fashioned shopping street (dori means street in Japanese) alongside the canal in Matsumoto, halfway between Matsumoto Station and Matsumoto Castle.
It's lined with mostly craft shops, snack foods and little restaurants.
A great little spot for a walk, well worth a visit if you happen to be in Matsumoto. - Enjoy.

It was a relaxing roaming around the Nakamachi Street, ended with melting-in-your-mouth wahyu beef BBQ dinner. Next morning we took some pictures beside the river next to our hotel, before we head off to Matsumoto Castle.

Not far from the castle, Nakamachi Dstrict (Nakamachi-dōri) is an atmospheric street lined by several nicely preserved, old buildings, including a number of warehouse-type buildings (kura) with massive, white painted walls, a remnant from former merchant districts. Some of them house small shops, restaurants and ryokan.

Nakamachi is a 5-10 minute walk from Matsumoto Castle and a 10-15 minute walk from Matsumoto station.

Narai Juku is one of those traditional Japanese villages, located in Nagano Prefecture, about an hour from Nagano. It is the 34th step city of Nakasendô, the imperial road linking Edo to Kyoto. It is also the second village of Kisoji, the former trade route before the Nakasendô and which already connected 11 villages in the Kiso Valley.
Narai-juku was apparently the most prosperous village at the time and served as a stop for travelers, who then passed through the Torii Pass, the most difficult passage of the entire route.
The village stretches for almost a kilometer, wedged between the green hills and the Naraigawa River. The city was nicknamed the city of a thousand buildings, and even today, it is an exception in the valley, because it is the only village where so many old houses line up so far: is the largest Shukuba or post office of Nakasendô.
Narai Juku is administratively cut into three parts named Kanmachi (for the top of the village), Nakamachi (the middle of the village) and Shimomachi (the city below). The entire visit of the village takes between 1 hour and 2 hours.
Narai-juku has a very large number of accommodations, sumptuous and huge ryokan, and it is an excellent step that can allow you to cut the road to Kyoto or Tokyo.
From Narai, you can take the train to Kiso Fukushima, Nagiso or Nakatsugawa to visit the other historic lighthouse villages of this ancient imperial and commercial route.

Day 4 Japan Hakuba Happo 白马八方根山
11am - Arrive at Hakuba 白馬村
11:30am - 4:30pm - Happo Gondola Station - Lunch & take the gondola then 2 chairlifts (2700 yen for return ticket) to the hike start point. 白馬八方尾根山每年秋天都湧入大量追楓賞景的人潮，搭乘宛如瑞士度假滑雪纜車的八方阿爾卑斯纜車，享受「全長3,445公尺的空中散步」。全程3階段纜車體驗，第一階段為包覆式的圓形纜車，率先從山下的八方站上升到海拔約1,400公尺的兔平驛展望台，接著換乘第二段的開放式纜車，前進海拔1,600公尺的黑菱平，佇立於黑菱平展望台時，可眺望山谷對岸海拔近3,000公尺、山頭終年雪白的白馬岳，以及山下白馬村全景，視野相當壯闊，展望台密佈灌木叢林，多條平緩的木棧步道蜿蜒其中，許多的家族登山客循著棧道漫遊，逐漸成為美好楓景的一部份。最後一段纜車則從黒菱平上升到八方池山莊，此時，便可觀賞到更高海拔的楓紅美景了
八方尾根是白马最著名的景点，登上一座高峰，眺望远近高低各不同的白马连岳。八方尾根最著名的当属高山湖泊八方池，但是必须坐三程缆车（分别是8分钟、7分钟、5分钟），再步行1个半小时才能到达。
