Nako monastery in Himachal Pradesh | Buddhism in India
A thousand years ago Lake Mansarovar and Mt. Kailash in the east to Ladakh and Kinnaur in the west. The kings of this dynasty descended from the ancient monarchs of Tibet and were determined to recreate a Buddhist society. They built 108 temples throughout their kingdom. There Indian pundits and Tibetan Lamas met and together translated the holy Buddhist scriptures from Sanskrit into Tibetan.
From here these holy scriptures were carried throughout Tibet and it is through these Tibetan texts that Indian Buddhism continues to survive today in India and around the world. The pundits are long forgotten but the temples and monasteries where they worked and prayed survived today and continue to inspire the living faith.
Located on the western borders of the kingdom in Kinnaur and Spiti, the simple temples built of mud and would blend into the dramatic snow-covered mountain landscape. Entering the temple, the visitor is submerged in a Buddhist paradise. Over the Millenium, the harsh climate battered the villages. Each summer the villagers repaired the destruction of the winter. But in 1965 and 1976 two catastrophic earthquakes shook Himachal Pradesh and the roof of the translator's temple collapsed.

Impromptu gig at Nako monastery | MOTOKRAFT DIARIES
By about mid-day the ladies of Nako village had gathered around the monastery for a community-lunch. My ears were tired of hearing the only voice, that of being my co-rider's for the last few days. I was desperate to socialize with the chillers of the village ... They sang and danced with all their heart and gave us more reasons to remember this little bird nest perched onto an unreachable branch of Himachal, India.

Nako at a Glance HD - Kinnaur Valley, Himachal Pradesh
Himachal Pradesh 2014 Memories – Vid 27
After wondering through Spiti Valley for past few days, on morning of 6th May we left behind Kaza and commenced our return journey with a night halt planned at Nako ( 11,800’) located in Kinnaur valley at a distance of 110 km. We passed through Tabo, where we spent a night on our onward journey. Around 4 pm, nearing Nako, we were alongside ploughed potato fields covering most of the open space. Rest of the drive was squeezing through narrow mud tracks around the lake in search for hotel. Lake View hotel right over the bank of the lake had some vacant rooms, where we took our shelter. The evening was spent in covering some portion of lake walking on cement track. The astounding view of lake with Nako village in mid-ground and the backdrop of snow clad hills will be any landscape photographer’s delight. The chilly winds blowing across did not deter us from visiting the extreme northern end of the village where 11th century Nako Monastic compound is located consisting of Monastery, Buddhist temples, chortens and prayer wheels. Next morning was a walk through village behind the hotel by taking narrow stone-cobbled roads. The village has a prominent looking Buddhist temple, single storied houses with enclosures for horses, cattle and sheep. The walk through lake periphery in morning light showed the submerged weeds along the edge of the lake. Lone villager was trying his luck in fishing using his simple device and appeared to be rewarded in catching small sized fishes.

Amazing journey from Sangla to Nako Kinnaur Lahaul Spiti Himachal Pradesh India
The two valleys are quite different in character. Spiti is more barren and difficult to cross, with an average elevation of the valley floor of 4,270 m (14,009 ft). It is enclosed between lofty ranges, with the Spiti river rushing out of a gorge in the southeast to meet the Sutlej River. It is a typical mountain desert area with an average annual rainfall of only 170 mm (6.7 inches).

Kalpa to Nako | Road to Kinnaur | Reckong Peo | Road Trip | Dangerous Roads
#Nako #Kalpa #Kinnaur
Presenting you Kalpa to Nako an exclusive video from my Kinnaur Spiti Road Trip May 2018. Kalpa to Nako is another 100 Km and takes around 3 to 4 hours. The drive is extremely adventurous and offers a lot to adventure seekers.
Starting from Kalpa / Reckong Peo, the drive is very scenic and beautiful. I would say drive till Spello is very smooth. But after Spello the real challenge starts. From Spello to Pooh and then to Khab, the road condition is not good and at times are very narrow and a high too. The traffic is close to none.
All the time till Khab, you will be driving next to Sutlej river, which feels amazing. At Khab, you will get another goose bump, the roads gets more narrower and higher.
As close as you get to Nako, the roads conditions start getting better. At Nako, I take you to the view point from where you can see the entire Nako village and the Nako Lake. Very beautiful.
I would like my friend Gaurav for his courage and enthusiasm to company me on this adventure.
I hope you enjoy my video and if you haven't subscribed to my channel yet, please go ahead and subscribe for more updates.
Thank you again for watching my video.
