Naksansa or Naksan Temple is a Korean Buddhist temple complex in the Jogye order of Korean Buddhism that stands on the slopes of Naksan Mountain (also called Obongsan Mountain). It is located about midway between Sokcho and Yangyang, Gangwon Province, the eastern region of South Korea. Naksansa is one of the few temples in Korea to overlook the East Sea (Sea of Japan).
╰ Hajodae Beach (하조대해변)
South of Naksansa, along the seashore, is Hajodae Beach, with a water depth of 0.5~1.5m and a fine, white sand beach that stretches for 1.5 km. It is 13 km south of Yangyang-gun, and 1 km north of the 38th parallel. There’s a pine forest behind the beach and if you follow the seashore from the entrance of the beach for about 1.5 km, there is a pavilion on top of a cliff. The flat bottom and low depth of the beach make it a suitable place for family vacations.

Woljeongsa Temple is located in a forested valley east of Odaesan Mountain, and is in charge of over 60 temples and 8 monasteries in the area. Woljeongsa Temple was established by Monk Ja Jang (590-658). Woljeongsa Temple is also the site of Seongbo Museum, displaying artifacts and treasures from Buddhist culture of the Goryeo Dynasty (918-1392), including a nine-story octagonal pagoda, also called as the Sari-Pagoda (relic pagoda), and a Stone Seated Buddha figure. Also there is the Jeokmyeolbogung where Buddha's bones are said to be preserved, and the large sermon hall Jeokgwangjeon Hall. Usually in a Jeokgwangjeon Hall, the Vairocana figure is enshrined, but it is interesting that the Sakyamuni figure is enshrined at Jeokgwangjeon Hall at Woljeong temple. Woljeongsa Temple of today was restored after many buildings burned down during the Korean War. Many cultural assets and historic data were lost at this time. The Silla Dongjong, which was excavated from the Seonrimwon site in Yangyang-gun, was also lost. The Budo site (relic site) and sagoji (historic document storage) is nearby Woljeongsa Temple. Budo site is a 15-minute walk from Woljeongsa Temple to its location at Sangwonsa Temple, just before crossing the Banya Bridge. Here there are 22 pagodas that hold the remains of the monks who had lived here. Sagoji is an hour’s walk from Woljeongsa Temple towards Sangwonsa near Yeonggamsa Temple.

Reasons for large fires in Gangwon-do Province
강원도 산불, 사상 최악이 된 요인들
Spring is when wildfires can easily start, and eastern Gangwon-do Province is particularly vulnerable to fires due to the region's natural environment.
Lee Min-sun explains.
The fire that started last night in Goseong County spread quickly overnight to other nearby parts of Gangwon-do Province, assisted by a strong wind with gusts of up to 20 meters per second.
While the fire authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire and why it spread so fast, some topographical and seasonal factors seem to have contributed to its spread.
Fires can easily occur during the warm, dry spring season.
Most previous large fires in Gangwon-do Province occurred in the springtime. The fire that burnt down the Naksansa temple in Yangyang County in 2005 and the 8-day-long fire that started in Goseong County in 2000 both happened in April.
Gangwon-do Province's mountainous landscape also creates a suitable environment for fires to spread.
The easterly wind passing across the mountains creates the Foehn effect which causes a warm, dry wind on the western slopes the mountain range.
Because it's a mountainous area, air currents over the Taebaek mountain range turn into strong winds, raising possibility of wildfire. Also, there are a lot of pine trees there which are especially vulnerable to fire with their pine resin.
With the strong wind dying out, fire authorities have successfully controlled the main fire and are keeping a lookout for possible remaining embers.
