Nalateswari Temple ||সতী- পীঠ নলহাটেশ্বেরী মায়ের ইতিহাস ||Nalhati,Birbhum
The goddess of this place is known as Maa Nalateswari who is also praised as Maa or “Bhagobidhata-Nalateswari” or Devi Parvati or Kalika. The orientation of this name came from pre historic story that narrates how the throat of Sati or “Nala” which one of the 51 parts of sati fell here as known by tradition on the other hand some people do believe that “Lalat” or forehead that fell here. So the name “Nalateswari” comes from “Nala” or throat of Maa sati. Within this natural beauty, the eastern side of the plateau provided secret formation of Nalateswari Temple.

Nalateswari Temple | Nalhati - Birbhum | West Bengal | 51- Shakti peeth
Nalateswari Temple is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, one of the 51 places where parts of Devi Sati’s body fell. This temple is very sacred and visited by devotees from all over the country. Since the throat or ‘nala’ of Sati is believed to have fallen here, the temple came to be called as the Maa Nalateswari Temple. It is believed that no matter how much water is poured down the throat of the goddess, it will never get overflowed or dried up.
According to the localities, in 252th Bengali year or “Bongapto”, “Kamdev” (the Hindu god of love or desire) who had dreamt about its existence, discovered the larynx of maa sati in the Nalahati forest. Another legend depicts that Ram Sharam Devsharma was known to be the first discoverer of the Nala of Devi Sati and this had marked the beginning of Maa Nalateswri devotion.
In the later half, Bramhachari Kushalnan had offered the first “Bhog” or food offerings. He had started the salvation on the “Pancha-munda-ashana” or the five headed throne. Nalhati is a beautiful place with serene outdoors and plateaus all around. Maa Nalateswri resides in such a soulful location and has resemblance with Kamakha and Kalighat Shakti peethas. Maa Nalateswri is also praised as Maa or “Bhagobidhata-Nalateswri” or Devi Parvati or Kalika.
Nalateswari temple is situated in the central (neck) portion of West Bengal in the district of Birbhum under the Sub division of Rampurhat. Nalhati is found to be the nearest railway station. Nalhati is a station which lies in the junction of Azimganj, a connector of Howrah-Sahibgunge, eastern railway loop. You can reach the Mandir via train followed by bus or any other transport. Being located in the Chota Nagpur Plateau this hillock region looks more beautiful with the historic touch of Maa Nalateswari.
The nearest airport to Maa Nalateswari Temple is Rajshahi airport, rajshahi which is 70 KM away from Maa Nalateswari Temple.
Nalateswari
Maa Nalateswari Temple is one of the 51 places where parts of Sati's body fell thus it is known as Shakti peethas.

My Trip to Tarapith Temple, Birbhum District, West Bengal , India
In Hinduism and Buddhism, the goddess Tara, is the second of the Dasa (ten) Mahavidyas or Great Wisdom, and is a form of Shakti (primeval energy in female form), the tantric manifestations of the goddess.
Ma Tara's sacred murti (divinely-empowered image) is spectacular to behold. Her mask is made of silver and its finely-crafted face is graced with three eyes.
Tarapith is a small temple town near Rampurhat in Birbhum district of the Indian state of West Bengal, known for its Tantric temple and its adjoining cremation (Maha Smashan) grounds where sadhana (tantric rituals) are performed. The Tantric Hindu temple is dedicated to the goddess Tara, a fearsome Tantric aspect of the Devi, the chief temples of Shaktism. Tarapith derives its name from its association as the most important center of Tara worship and her cult.
An oral legend about the temple states that sage Vashishtha practiced austerities to Tara, but was unsuccessful, so on the advice of a divine voice, he went to meet the Buddha – an avatar of Vishnu according to some schools of Hinduism – in Tibet. The Buddha instructed Vasishtha to worship Tara through the practices of vamachara. During this time, Buddha had a vision of Tarapith as an ideal location for enshrining the image of Tara in a temple there. Buddha advised Vasishtha to go to Tarapith, the abode of Tara. At Tarapith, Vasishtha did penance by reciting Tara mantra 300,000 times. Tara was pleased with Vasishtha’s penance and appeared before him. Vasishtha appealed to Tara to appear before him in the form of a mother suckling Shiva on her breast, the form that Buddha had seen in his divine vision. Tara then incarnated herself in that form before Vasishtha and turned into a stone image. Since then Tara is worshiped in the Tarapith temple in the form of a mother suckling Shiva on her breast.

Maa Nalateswari Temple
The throat of Sati or “Nala” fell here as known by tradition. This is a beautiful place with fine vicinity and plateaus all around it where Maa Nalateswri resides and has resemblance with Kamakha and Kalighat pithas. The goddess of this place is known as Maa Nalateswri who is also praised as Maa or “Bhagobidhata-Nalateswri” or Devi Parvati or Kalika. According to the localities, in 252th Bengali year or “Bongapto”, “Kamdev” (the Hindu god of love and desire) who had dreamt about its existence discovered the larynx of maa sati at this Nalahati forest.
The “Garb Griha” (sanctum sanctorum) of this temple is crowned with a raised pinnacle where deity of Maa Nalateswri is worshipped. The feeling of positive energy (that helps to destroy the evils of life) rises within as you look at the deity of Maa. With large “Trinayan” and golden red tongue of the deity below this lays the “Nala” or throat of the divine sati. No matter how much water is being poured down the throat, it will never gets overflowed or dried up. A few kilometres away from this temple lays the shrine of Jogesh Bhairab, Ganesha temple and a mysterious neem tree.
Puja ceremonies start from opening of the “Garb Griha” (sanctum of sanctorum) at 5:30 am and end at 8:30 pm but the timings do change with the seasons.
So come and visit the temple of Maa Nalateswari and let her blessings being serenity to your mind!
