Six Years in the Hanoi Hilton: An Extraordinary Story of Courage and Survival in Vietnam
In 1967, U.S. Air Force fighter pilot James Shively was shot down over North Vietnam. After ejecting from his aircraft, he was captured by the North Vietnamese Army and spent the next six years enduring brutal treatment at the hands of the enemy in Hanoi prison camps. Written by Shively’s stepdaughter Amy Hawk, this book is a riveting portrayal of life as an American prisoner of war trapped on the other side of the world. A book signing will follow the program.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

VIETNAM MUSEUM OF ETHNOLOGY | HANOI CITY TOUR | HANOI ATTRACTIONS
Vietnam Museum of Ethnology in Hanoi offers an insight into the 54 different ethnic groups of Vietnam in an effort to preserve cultural heritage and promote socio-cultural diversity within the country. Visitors are welcome to browse some of the vast research on offer at this public museum which is also a centre for ethnographic research.
The museum is packed full of information detailing traditional Vietnamese ways of life, from religious events to the symbolic rituals of all the Vietnamese ethnic groups, providing a rich tapestry of the culture melting pot existing in Vietnam. The exhibition hall features everyday objects representing each group, a research centre, library and auditorium. The outdoor display area exhibits a variety of Vietnamese homes as full-scale replicas, with great attention paid to the varying architectural styles set within the authentic and tranquil gardens. In addition, there are also leisure pursuits on display including traditional water puppet theatre and calligraphy. The future aim of the museum is to also showcase the many cultural practices and civilisations across Southeast Asia.
The museum has over 15,000 artefacts including photographs and other multi-media such as audiotapes. Its indoor exhibition space can be viewed via a virtual tour which includes the Viet, Muong, Tho, Chut, Tav, Thai, Ka Dai, H’Mong-Dao, Tang, San Dui, Ngai, Mon-Khmer, Nam-Dao, Cham, Hoa and Khmer ethnic groups. There are priceless antiques on display alongside everyday objects such as pipes, baskets and knives. Expect to see a wide range of interesting items on display at the museum with clothes, jewellery and items relating to weddings, funeral ceremonies and other spiritual rituals also exhibited across the 54 communities offering an incomparable glimpse of their history, heritage and cultural identity.
The outdoor area presents a range of traditional homes including a Tay stilt house and a Viet house complete with indigenous foliage, each separated by a small stream and reached via little bridges. One of the main features of the museum is to present the artefacts in a simple manner so that visitors can enjoy them without being overwhelmed by detail. The museum is suitable for children and all documents and display signs throughout have been translated into French and English. Opening Hours: From 08:30 - 17:30, closed on Mondays Location: On Nguyen Van Huyen Street in the Cau Giay district of Hanoi about 8km away from the centre of town Remarks: The museum also has wheelchair access with ramps throughout and an elevator for access to the second floor How to get there: best to go via taxi to the museum which will take about 20 minutes or alternatively take the number 14 minibus from Dinh Tien Hoang Street (just north of Hoan Kiem Lake) to the Nghia Tan stop and walk two blocks
Minh Binh Caves in Hanoi. Vietnam
Ninh Bình is a province of Vietnam, in the Red River Delta region of the northern part of the country. The province is famous for a high density of natural and cultural attractions, including reserved parks in Cúc Phương National Park and Van Long, grotto caves and rivers in Tràng An, Tam Cốc-Bích Động and Mua Caves, historic monuments in the Hoa Lư ancient capital, Vietnam's largest buddhist worshiping complex (Bái Đính Temple), and the Phát Diệm Cathedral with eclectic architectural style. Thanks to its adjacency to Hanoi, day trips from the capital are easily manageable.

HaNoi Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Ha Noi in Vietnam.
Hanoi is North Vietnam’s lively capital city located in the north of the country and set amid the delta plains of the Red River. Compared to other southeast Asian cities that have developed into modern metropolis’ at breathtaking speed, Hanoi could be described as being a provincial city.In 1882 the French built their government offices around the city’s large Ho Hoan Kiem Lake. The city became the capital of French Indo China. The lake is surrounded by splendid old villas and public buildings. In the early morning several of the city’s inhabitants arrive to go about their traditional exercises. The Chua Mot Cot Pagoda is one of the oldest religious buildings in Hanoi, a temple built upon a single column in the centre of a small pond. Legend has it that the childless king, Ly Thai To, saw the goddess of mercy in a dream in which she presented him with a son. Soon afterwards an heir to the throne was born and thus the king ordered the construction of this pagoda and the future of the dynasty was assured. Den Dao Quan is one of the most beautiful Taoist temples in Vietnam and is located close to the national library south east of the Temple Of Literature. Inaugurated in 1993, the Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre is one of the finest examples of its kind in Vietnam and is so popular that its twice daily performances are completely sold out. Den Quan Than is the richly adorned Temple Of The Great God that dates back to the 11th century and is dedicated to the Vietnamese god of war. Than Vu, who is also the patron saint of the north, has guarded the city for thousands of years. His temple is located on the banks of Lake West. Over the centuries Hanoi has frequently been conquered, lost its status as a capital city and also changed its name several times. But it has survived and is still full of timeless charm. It is most assuredly the pearl of North Vietnam!

Raised in the mountains of Colorado, we met working for the United States Olympic Committee and fell in love! Not long after that, we moved to downtown Denver and in our first year living in the city, we caught our travel bug. We started making videos, starting with Alex's first trip to Europe. We fell in love with travel, culture, and food.
That was all it took, 2 years in the making we decided we were ready to take off to Southeast Asia and travel. We wanted to document all our travels mostly for us to look back on and laugh, but also for others to learn and enjoy as well. Our goal is to travel all over the world. This is the beginning of our life of travel, who knows where it will take us but that's the exciting part! We're incredibly thankful to everyone who has supported us and blessed to be able to do what we love every day. Thanks for joining us!

Vietnamese Banh Bao 12 in 20 Challenge at New York Sports Bar!!
A&Z #788 - Atlas vs the Vietnamese Banh Bao 12 in 20 Challenge at New York Sports Bar in Hanoi, Vietnam. Back in mid-October 2019, my younger sister Shelley and I flew to Seoul, South Korea to kick-off a 3-country Asia trip, and then we headed to Hanoi, Vietnam for three delicious food challenges. For event #3, we traveled again to New York Sports Bar in Hanoi, Vietnam, where I did the Vietnamese pho challenge on the day prior. There, I was the first person to take on their brand new Vietnamese Banh Bao 12 in 20 Challenge. Each banh bao (steamed bun) weighed around 150 grams and was filled with meat, small hard boiled eggs, and some healthy vegetables. I was trying to get my 3rd win and sweet t-shirt in Vietnam!! BIG thanks to my Irish friend Rory the GM (and long-time subscriber) for helping to get this challenge set up along with the other one I attempted which posted last week. BIG thanks to all our Vietnamese friends watching videos and supporting our efforts!! The next 4 tour videos will feature events in Taipei, Taiwan.
