Namada Chilume (pronounced naamada chilume' in Kannada) is a natural spring situated by Devarayanadurga, near Tumkur in the state of Karnataka in India. This is located in the Devarayandurga Reserve Forest area and maintained by the forest department. There is an historical significance to this place and it goes back to the Ramayana. As per mythology it is believed that Rama, along with Sita and Lakshmana, stayed here during their exile in the forest. Rama searched for water to apply tilak to his forehead. When he could not find any water, he shot an arrow at the rock. The arrow penetrated the rock, made a hole, and the water came out. Hence, this place was called NamadaChilume, meaning Spring of Tilak. (naama = tilak and chilume' = spring, in Kannada). The water comes out from a small hole throughout the year and never dries up. The water that comes out is considered as sacred water (tirtha). The forest department is preserving the spring as well as fenced the area to protect deer in and around the area

Namada Chilume is a natural water spring located near Devarayana Durga Hills or DD Hills in Tumkur district of Karnataka. This is the place where Lord Rama along with Sita and Lakshmana stayed here during their exile in the forest. Lord Rama made this water spring when he could not find any water source to apply tilaka on his forehead. To make this water spring he shot an arrow on the rock and water came out. Hence this place was called Namada Chilume, meaning Water of Spring. This water keeps running throughout the year and never dries up.
Namada Chilume is around 75 km from Bangalore and 15 km from Tumkur. Several buses ply this route and hence reaching Namada Chilume is not tough by road. If you reach Tumkur, you can hire an auto or taxi to reach this place.

The chital or cheetal (Axis axis), also known as spotted deer or axis deer, is a species of deer that is native in the Indian subcontinent. The species was first described by German naturalist Johann Christian Polycarp Erxleben in 1777. A moderate-sized deer, male chital reach nearly 90 centimetres (35 in) and females 70 centimetres (28 in) at the shoulder. While males weigh 30–75 kilograms (66–165 lb), the lighter females weigh 25–45 kilograms (55–99 lb). The species is sexually dimorphic: males are larger than females, and antlers are present only on males. The upper parts are golden to rufous, completely covered in white spots. The abdomen, rump, throat, insides of legs, ears and tail are all white. The antlers, three-pronged, are nearly 1 metre (3.3 ft) long.

Namada Chilume is a sanctuary within the forest area near Dvarayana Durga about 70 kms from Bangalore. Here the water continuously flows from a small hole in the stone surface. This place is linked to a mythological story that Ramachandra had shot an arrow to get water from this place. There are quite a number of deers in the deer park. The views of the hills and forest are enchanting. Driving through the hill road was also enjoyable.

The freshwater spring from a rock surface called Namada Chilume is one of many tourist attractions in Tumkur. Namada Chilume is a place located around 8km from Devarayana Durga. Namada Chilume is a natural spring of Tilaka or Nama. The Tilaka or Pundraka is a mark on the forehead with sandalwood paste or any colored vermilion as a ritual as per the Hindu culture. The spring is located at the base of the hill on the road to Tumkur.
ccording to legends, Lord Rama, during his exile in the forest or the Vanvasa, halted at this place on his way to Lanka. The story says that Lord Rama wanted to apply Nama on his forehead, but since he didn’t find water anywhere, he shot an arrow into the ground and the spring opened from underground.
